  1. One of the most awesomely gorgeous racing cars ever and maybe one of the most awesomely gorgeous model racing car ever
  2. Thanks Mike. Here is a photo of the underneath
  3. Thanks Bob - Narrow tires sure help the traditional look
  4. Thanks David - The McMullen Hi-Boy was featured in Rodder's Journal which used the same format to list all the components of the car so I wanted to do the same.
  5. Thanks Ray Thanks Claude - I checked out images on-line of the D100. Very cool. You should build a model of that truck. Thanks Dennis - Once I got over the disappoint of not been able to more accurately pull off the flames and pinstriping I am very pleased with how the model turned out. Thanks Larry Thanks Steve - I hope to finish off one more 32 before Deuce Days in Scale Thanks Bill - See below for a drag chute photo. The McMullen Roadster was also on a record album cover with a drag chute. I think the car was then powered by a 427 Ford and had revised rear suspension. It may have even been the second version McMullen built. Thanks Chris Thanks Greg - I found the back dating to old school was the most interesting part of this build Thanks Jim
  6. I did complete my McMullen inspired tribute Deuce Hi-Boy and it is now Under Glass
  7. This Deuce Hi-Boy is in no way presented as being a replica of the McMullen ’32 Roadster but was definitely inspired by it and is a tribute to that iconic hot rod. I did try to duplicate as many of its distinctive features as I could but fell short with the flames and pinstriping. Building this model was definitely a very educational and entertaining experience. 8. Another fantastically well built racecar from your workbench.
  9. until
Deuce Days in Scale is the third edition of a model car show that is part of the every three years huge outdoor car show in downtown Victoria BC featuring the largest gathering of '32 Fords as well as hundreds of pre-1952 cars. The model car show also has an emphasis on '32 Fords but also welcomes 1972 and earlier model cars of all sorts.
  10. Tuff looking Deuce Coupe. Well built. You nailed all the significant ingredients of the recipe.
  11. Thanks Tim - I contemplated printing on white but thought the trimming would be too difficult. I just applied flame decals from the 32 Sedan kit and am very satisfied how they look although different than the McMullen Deuce. They still have not completely set.
  12. Unfortunately not April Fools. Thanks Ryan for your interest. Sorry to disappoint.
  13. Thanks for your replies. It is always fun trying to come up with an April Fools post. I think this is the fourth year I have posted an April Fools model and I already have a plan for next year. To answer Peter - the blue model started with a Hendrix resin body and grill shell and the rest was robbed from numerous kits.
  14. This will be the last work in progress update as I am abandoning my attempt to build a close looking tribute to the McMullen Deuce Roadster because I now realize, I cannot even come close to duplicating the flames and the pinstriping. Right from the start I knew that the biggest challenge of this project was going to be replicating the flames and pinstriping but I figured I had nothing to lose by at least trying. I managed to download pretty good images of the flames from which I removed the black back ground with Photoshop and scaled them in my old Testor’s decal program to be printed on an ink jet printer. I have had pretty good success with self made decals over light colored surfaces but over black is a different story. Even with the highest settings on the printer, the colors on the decals lack density. I made multiples of each decal so decided to just keep layering to see how many it would take to achieve something close to the desired affect. After seven layers it was completely obvious this was not going to work. Not only was there still no density to the colors but it was impossible to keep all those layers lined up. As for the pinstriping, I was going to cut self-adhesive vinyl as narrow as I could which might have given a decent look but without the flames, what’s the point. I am going to complete this model with flame decals from my collection but it will not be referred to as a McMullen replica although certainly inspired by and a tribute to that car.
  15. You are familiar with the acronyms AMT, MPC, IMC and SMP. Now there is another set of letters to learn – SPAM - standing for Scale Plastic Automotive Models. Today - April 1, 2022, SPAM is releasing photos of the mock up of the box art for The Little Deuce Coupe which includes images of models of the Silver Sapphire 3-Window Coupe that was on the cover of the Beach Boys record album Little Deuce Coupe and a 5-Window Coupe that represents the lyrics in Beach Boys song Little Deuce Coupe. SPAM is the sponsor of the Model Car Show – Deuce Days in Scale in conjunction with the largest gathering of 1932 Fords at Northwest Deuce Days in Victoria BC Canada July 17, 2022.
  16. I like this very much. Always admired Cunninghams and have a book about their history.
  17. Very well done conversion. Brings back memories. The family of a class mate of mine in elementary school bought a new 4-cylinder Chevy II four-door as soon as they came out.
  18. Nice restoration. Always wonderful see a model from the early sixties when I was first introduced to the hobby.
  19. I am overwhelmed by these MFH kits and your talents building them.
  20. Thanks Trevor - The next step will be maybe the easiest - painting the body. But then comes the most challenging - the flames and the pinstriping.
  21. Up Front Widened the Moon tank with Evergreen styrene tube. Fabricated a hand pump Replicas & Miniatures open grill shell and double-sided radiator. Installed electric fan as on the restored car. Model Car Garage photo-etch grill Headlights from Rat Roaster with shocks removed The plates on the frame horns were to mount a tow bar
  22. Outstanding model. I congratulate you for your incredibly detailed and immaculate construction and I must also congratulate the producers of the fantastic kit. Both you and they are amazingly talented modellers.
  23. Here is my MPC Gurney/Foyt MKIV '67 winner. I actually have touched the actual car when I helped push it into position for a photo shoot at the Monterey Historics honouring Dan Gurney.
