Now that's my kind of car! Nice work and the paint is beautiful.

Made some small progress over the past few days. Got a lot of the painting done. The engine is painted with Humbrol matt aluminium enamel and the fenders and side covers are Tamiya TS-17 gloss aluminum. The seat is brush painted with Acryl flat black. the red parts are going to need a second coat except for the frame as it already has two coats.

This one is gonna look great when finished.

The p/s pump looks great as does the rest of your build. Wish i could scratchbuild small parts like that.

I have built some of the old Revell and MPC 1/8 scale bikes in the past but never knew this 1/16 kit existed until the recent rerelease was spotted in Hobby Lobby. So I bought it on a whim because the subject matter intrigued me. It is more detailed than I expected and the mold is still in good shape. The tires have "Lindberg Special" on the sidewalls so I'm sure this wasn't originally an MPC mold. Does it have Pyro origins? Or maybe even Airfix as they used to do 1/16 bike kits. Made a start as soon as I got it home. Built the subassemblies and painted the frame Testors dark red enamel with a brush( yeah, I know, it's going to take forever to dry). Dechromed the side covers and fenders because the model has far more chrome than the real thing did.

I like this one a lot?

Paint and assembly techniques

What he said. I use CA as much as possible because it dries fast and forms a rigid bond. Solvent glue bonds always seem to feel flexible. If you want to check out what I am saying then do this: Glue the wheels on a model with solvent cement and then do the same to another model using CA. When you sit the model down on a table you can feel how the one glued with CA feels very solid on its wheels. Like the old metal axle kits feel. I hope this makes sense. -
Today I repainted the hood on my GTX flat black because it just looks right to me even though it's not factory correct. The original paint I had on the hood was much rougher than the rest of the body anyway. Never cared for the wide stripes that Ma Mopar put on these cars. Also went to Hobby Lobby after work and bought up some Model Master bottle paint in the colors that I use the most. Consider it the modellers version of toilet paper panic buying.?

I think I will leave well enough alone. This one seemed to have bad karma.Lol Mine came with the mirrors. Did you buy your kit brand new and unopened? If not some one may have mixed up some parts from a different kit.

Another one finished after languishing for years in the box. Not by best paint or foiling work. All of my models have a good side and the passenger side is the good side of this one. Screwed the pooch on the driver side mirror and when I went to reposition it a chunk of paint came off with it. It's still wrong but I'm not going to remove it again and risk losing more paint. This was primed with a primer sealer and it didn't adhere to the plastic very well. Paint also chipped off around the window trim from cutting the foil. Paint is Duplicolor touch up spray Nissan Orange Mist clear coated with Quick Shine. Thinking about painting the hood flat black. Pros: Good fit and easy final assembly. Nice chassis and engine bay detail. Cons: The grill and headlights really let this kit down. I tacked it in with white glue hoping to replace it with something better in the future. Well known body shape issues but they aren't that noticeable to my eyes. Chrome parts rough around the edges. Rear track width too narrow. Poorly defined engraving of window trim which made it difficult to foil. After all these years, they still haven't revised the instructions. They still show the "voice of the Road Runner" horn as the wiper motor when the proper wiper motor is on the chrome sprue.

Sometimes walking away is the best thing. -
I built one of these when they were first released and don't recall any fit problems. Perhaps the interior bucket isn't locating properly or you could try modifying the dash locating notches to make it sit a little lower or closer to the seat.

That looks very good. Rarely see one of these built
-
Nicely done interior.
-
Another nice one and you picked a great paint color.
-
That looks really good!

I love 58 Impalas and yours looks just right.

Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments and thanks to Snakes BOYD thread which gave me the motivation to get it done. My models turn out much better when I start with a well designed kit such as this and the Yenko Camaro that I finished before this one.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Well, I got the foiling done and it was a real PITA. Like picking fly specks out of pepper ?.Worst foiling job I have ever done due to the faintly engraved window trim and the paint wanting to chip off around the edges. I used a primer sealer when I painted it because I knew the Duplicolor auto touch up paint would etch the plastic. Don't know why it chips so easily. Anyway, here are the not so great results. This is about four hours worth of work.
