Thanks Trevor, I'm still working on it but I'm thinking I need to accept what I've been able to do and move on before I mess something up. David G.

Too cool! Every little thing. Just Too Cool! David G.

Fabulous work on this one Pat! Excellent mods, all exceedingly well done! It's good to see it back on the bench and nearly complete. David G.

Beautiful color you picked for the body! The interior looks great too! David G.

Good progress on this one Joe. Question, do you plan on using blue for the engine, the body or both? David G.

1981 "Fast 111's" Corvette 1:32 Scale by MPC: WIP
David G. replied to David G.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hello Everybody! I'm getting close to wrapping up this build. I was ready to shoot the final paint on Sunday but the wind kicked up and it's been blowey for the past two days. Since I paint outside on my patio, windy days are no-paint days. In the mean time... The side pipes are chunky and lack detail. I thought about redoing them using a smaller diameter "pipe" and adding heat shields but I decided that doing that would go against my original intention of keeping this a simple rebuild using mainly what's provided by the kit. But I did drill out the ends and repair them using some 1/16" styrene rod to replace the broken mounting pins. Here are the side pipes all painted up and ready to install. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to post a comment if you're so inclined. David G. -

Thank you for your kind comment Ismael. I agree, Medium Quasar Blue Metallic is a beautiful color and I have plans to use it again on a future project. As I was doing research for this build, I did come across some other copies of this kit available on e-bay, so they are still out there. Maybe you'll get lucky and find one for a reasonable price. Thanks again, David G. -
Impressive work as always Kurt! I like Studebaker's approach to a lighted instrument panel! ? I'm glad that you like my suggestion for the mud flaps. Do you plan to make matching floor mats? David G.

Thank you John. It certainly is trying my skills but I do like a good challenge. It's like I say: "Model builders, we're problem solvers who create our own problems to solve!" David G.

That's a wicked-cool custom! It's gonna be great to see it done in scale. You have my attention. David G.

Excellent work on the polish Niko! I like the checkered cloth too. David G.

Nice detail painting on the interior! David G.

Excellent work on the headlights Kurt! I don't think I would noticed that fender detail myself. Heck, I could barely see it after you pointed it out! The interior is shaping up nicely, I imagine having such a simple dashboard to replicate helps immensely. I cast my vote for mud flaps, I see it with the classic Yosemite Sam "Back Off!" ones. Hello Everybody! Here's the next update on the Corvette. I got some body work done on that little sink mark. Nice and smooth, we're ready for paint! I found some bits in my model railroad box to use for covering up those ugly gaping center holes in the wheels. Not fabulous, but much better than what I started out with. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment. David G. -
WOW! Quite the adventure you've been on with this one! Spectacular engineering and fabrication work! David G.

Hello Everybody! That was indeed soon! No matter how I tweaked and adjusted it, I just could not get the RH door to seat properly when closed. So I decided further investigation was warranted and carefully dismantled the door. After carefully disassembling the door thankfully without damaging it, I was able to determine that the hinge was a bit warped and not allowing the door to properly close all the way. I made a couple of small relief cuts to the hinge to allow the door chassis to be in the correct position when closed. I then taped the door in place and used Tamiya liquid cement to chemically weld the hinge back into one solid piece. After allowing it to cure for a few hours, I used some CA to reinforce and strengthen the weld. The alignment is much better and I think a little work along the forward lower edge of the door will allow it to settle completely into place. For now, I want to give the hinge repair ample time to cure before I start messing with it. That's all for this run. As always, thanks for stopping by for a look and please feel free to post a comment or two. David G.
