Well, no Shock G wheel look... I took a small metal sticker ring, applied it around the stub for the original (OG) hub, and painted it goldish/brassish. I’ll hit it with a flat black wash later. Lugs painted with Molotow. Valve stem wire with Molotow “cap”...

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
Erik Smith replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, sounds like wishful thinking that they can stay open in the process. Hope I’m wrong, and I probably am since I know next to nothing - just my feeling from reading the article. -
Nice choice LouO!

Wait, what? That’s the whole 2018 list?

What do you drive?

Oh dear. Nice. 3.0t I see on the side? I tried to talk me wife into a G37X coupe years ago - but, since my head touched the rear window in the back seat I couldn’t convince her it was right for the family. -
Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
Erik Smith replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Boy, reading the article makes it sound pretty dire. They are hoping to stay in business during the restructure and sale - they’ve been bleeding money for two years now...I fear for the employees. When they sell, I’m sure we will see some big changes - maybe losing some big parts of not just our hobby, but RC and related as well. $10-50 million in assets - $100-500 million in liabilities? While there are enough models in circulation for most of us to build our lifetimes, the energy of new kits and such is as much a part of model enjoyment in a way... Hoping for the best outcome here. -
Wheels... The center caps that come with the Tamiya wheels look too big with the smaller tires: Reminds me of the Humpty dance, so I’ll have to come up with something different.
-
Wow. Splendid. Looks absolutely like a real car. Did you add the little washer fluid hose on the rear wiper?
-
Overall the body is molded pretty good - no Tamiya stuff, but - there are mold lines running in the usual spots. Only real pain in the keister ones are on the a pillar gutter molding. Got some primer on and finishing up the front valance
-
Yeah, mine took a bit to arrive also... Besides the above items, it fits really well. Remember to fill the slot in the wheel well for the stock intake mounting tab...I didn’t.

Boop shebop... I got the engine thrown together... There is some interference with kit parts - the Webers make the kit radiator and shroud unusable and the distributor hit the brake fluid container. So...I’ll be scratch building a radiator and I found a container from an AMT explorer kit that sits below the distributor. Also...deleting the bumpers and the front shroud needs to be modified...

You can buy photo etch guides for the curves...or use an old school eraser shield. You might even be able to use a circle template if it’s thin enough to conform to the surface. I hate scribing as it’s very difficult skill to get right. I go slow. Scribe very small amounts. And learn how to fill errant scratches - repeatedly...

1/25 AMT '62 Pontiac Catalina Polyglas Gasser II
Erik Smith replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
AMT seems to have “lost” a few things in the late 60s. The 1962 Galaxy was reissued late in the decade and disappeared as well as the Bonnie. Neither were converted to next year models or, like many 60’s era models, converted to some form of race or drag car. So...maybe, just maybe, the tooling still survives someplace... -

Repop artwork from the 1962 Bonneville release from late 60s...maybe the last time the Bonnie was seen? The “new” box art still shows what I believe to be a Bonneville, although the kit is the Catalina. Orginal: -

So, while waiting for a paint screw up to dry on my Rabbit...the guys at the shop started work on the Miata. We were discussing engine options when Otto, one of our mechanics from Germany, mentioned his father, who worked with Toyota Racing, had a crate in the garage with an engine. ”Really? What engine” ”Ich weiss nicht” Mystery crate:
-
Wow. Great work.

I have some replacement seats from Clearly Scale too. They will be getting “Ol’ German Guy Sweater” upholstery and a nice 80’s brown color.
-
More work on the engine. I decided to paint the “chassis” and inner hood area yellowish color - why? I thought it looked neat I guess. It is testers enamel thinned, sprayed, “Futured”, washed, and dulled.

Never know, Joshua could still be looking...

Sorry, Casey, can’t help you with this one... I like the wheels though. Did US cars ever come with those? Seems all I remember were the four spoke-y ones.
