Easy solution. Start with a 50-50 mix. Try spraying that and see if its to ruuny or too thick. Swirl the paint and observe how it runs down side of jar. Too thin add in more paint and if two thick add more thinner. Do the same thing again and try spraying the mixture. Again observe how the paint swirls. Once you get a consistacy you like th we n recreate that paint consistency. You simply have ti get your hands dirty at this point to see what worjs for you.

I remember reading an interesting article about a study of why in some people why so many people to live a long time. In various places there were reasons like diet and exercise. However there was a more common thread. It seems that in the places where people achieve longevity it was those societies that valued the wisdom of the elderly and didn't consider them a burden.

You can make a Profit
bobthehobbyguy replied to Boss31's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The thing I find interesting is that in most cases we have trouble finding time for the hobby. To me it is surprising that the op wasn't concerned with being compensated for his time. I can see the sense in building and selling to allow buying new kits and supplies. You are building what you want to build. Of course you are not going to truly make a profit, just my thoughts. . -

Nobody is upset. If you're happy building kits and making a little money fine. Most artistic work seldom makes a lot of money. Those that do generally have paid their dues to get to that point. However most of us build for our own enjoyment . In addition most have little time to do what they want. And building to sell is considered work like and most want to be compensated for their time. As others have said we would like to see more of your work. -

I'd rather keep my building for my pleasure. Although you are making money off of your out of pocket expenses you aren't getting compensated for your time. Plus you've now have a deadline and you aren't necessarily building the subject matter you might want to build. -
One suggestion is to get some cheap craft paint for spraying. You can get your technique dialed in for using an airbrush without wasting money. You can also get a feel for thinning paints. Also by using waterbased craft paints you it will allow for quick cleanup. Ultimately you will need to do some final b testing with the actual paint you will be using.

Building cars for profit
bobthehobbyguy replied to Boss31's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree with others. You might be able to sell built models but except for a few exceptions you are not going to make a profit. Given the cost of kits and supplies relative to what some of the less expensive diecast you are going to have a difficult time to make a profit. -

Besides hot rods, rat rods, and drag cars. Trog beach racers would also be good inspiration. Lots of possibilities. -
3D Printing Smaller Scale to Larger Scale?
bobthehobbyguy replied to mchook's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If the computer model has been already created then it can be printed out in any size. If you have model parts then they would have to be scanned first. -
In my opinion I don't think that responding is a waste of time. Hopefully others will read some of these posts. A lot of good information has been provided. And although weighing paint is overkill it is a valid question. Temperature , humidity, and technique are the most important factors. Surface prep is super important also. In the end you just have to get your hands dirty. A lot of painting is finding what works the best for you. Not all techniques work well for everyone. For example primer. One needs to see whether they like the results with or without. That means trying both ways.

I've been modeling off and on since I was about 8. For me it runs in cycles. Sometimes I just pull out a stalled project and try to get more accomplished. Other times I will For me I have to be in the right frame of mind for modeling.

The key is careful planning. As the saying goes measure twice and cut once. From the photos above of the tubbed chassis it looks straight forward. If you take your time im positive you xan get those big rear tires under the vack.

Rat rods and hot rods both lend themselves to parts box builds(kitbashing). Great way to have a unique build. -

Looks great. Great stance. Wheels and tires look great.

For those want to develop spraying techniques for either rattle cans or airbrush it might make sense to get some "speed shapes" which are used for testing paint colors on curved surfaces. They are $10 for five. Certainly cheaper than taking a chance with a new kit.

Yeah Bezos and Musk are the great hope. Sorry when you are that rich you can bully people. They are not interested in making the world a better place , they are only interested in becoming richer and they don't care how they do it. Hey if they want to live on Mars I say don't let the door hit them in the butt on their way to the rocket. -

Yup. In fact it was the troops returning from WW1 that allowed the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic to happen. The today you can be any where in the world in a day. Think of all the people you will interact with. And potentially how many people one sick person could potentially infect. If you think about it it's amazing that it didn't happen sooner. As far as the post office I'm paying but phone or in person. At this point in time its been far to unreliable lately. I received a pge bill six weeks late.
