VW t3 pick up
Cool Hand replied to stitchdup's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great idea, look forward to seeing the transformation. -
Always great to see your wip's Eric, you truly are the modern age model car builder who has and uses all the current tech and equipment to produce exceptional builds.

Interior pretty much complete. Some Lowriders have cool looking hydraulic set ups in the trunk/boot. But because I chose some airbags for looks on the rear, thought it would be cool to try imitate an air set up. 3D printed air compressors, scratch built tank and solenoids. 3D printed plaque. All painted with Alclad chrome.

Thanks. I try to do something different, cant all build the same style's. Its fun trying to find a kit and build to our liking. Happy that you can find some ideas and use them in your own build. This place is great for inspiration and idea's Thanks. Some of the Lowriders ive seen in the magazines seem to have lots of chrome. So tried applying to places where ive seen it done on the 1:1's Thanks. Was a good way to not have to worry about all the compartment details just say its all hidden.

MPC 1967 Pontiac GTO weekend warrior street machine
Cool Hand replied to Captain's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Good start there mate. Sounds like a decent plan, supercharged and low. With the engine bay, do a test run with thin cardboard to help plan out and make templates to transfer onto the styrene sheet. Glad to see another Aussie on here. -
1969 AMC Rambler (Rouge) Jo-Han Hemi Streetmachine
Cool Hand replied to Beamerman's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Shaping up to be a super clean build. Looks great in the paint mock up. Polish and chrome trim will make this thing pop. -
Enjoyed seeing the wip of this build and how you went about piecing all the details together, well done Gareth you captured the 80's style perfectly.

1969 AMC Rambler (Rouge) Jo-Han Hemi Streetmachine
Cool Hand replied to Beamerman's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This shaping up to be a tuff street machine. Clean detailed interior. Look forward to seeing the engine detailed up and the supercharger sticking through the hood/bonnet. -
Thanks. Got some of this flat clear applied to the interior. Before, can stiil see the gloss shine. Masked off the centre console as it will be painted black. And after.
-
Engine got a bit of a make over, re-painted with Pontiac engine blue. Also applied some Alclad chrome to fan and sump. And added some detail for visual interest. More visual interest added to the under carriage, some airbags to the rear and Alclad chrome. And more Alclad chrome on a few other parts Nothing even close to accurate its just for looks.

Appreciate all the comments. Thanks Front is ok, so I will cap the ends for a cleaner look. But had thought about narrowing the rear, as each side could come in a couple mm for a better fit to the body.
-
Good to see you back on the scene Frank, always enjoyed seeing your builds. Whole new game for you now with the 3D parts. Liking the look of the 67 so far, got that modern big wheel style to it.

Looking tuff in the wheel mock up, good idea with the rear window..

Interested to see how this kit builds up. So I will be looking forward to this wip Sounds like an interesting color combo. Agree those smoothies look the part.. I have this kit in the stash and was planning to have a look at after the Nova
-
Done a bit of body work. Door lines and hatch lines were well defined, but scribed a bit deeper. Also scribed around the trim, helps to make trimming bmf a lot easier for me. Removed the molded in wipers. First coats of Mr Hobby Finishing Surfacer 1500 black. Few areas to fix up then another couple coats, after that apply the TS-14 black. Interior painted, flat clear to applied later

Thanks all. Thanks, appreciate sharing the info about the engine. Nah, you are just a die hard Nova fan. I think the kit could be built in any style and it would suit.
-
Great to see you decided to turn this Nova into a beast. Cant wait to see that engine shoe horned in, and rolling on those slicks. Got this kit in the stash, have plans to do that also as a Lowrider, but your build might change my mind. Looking forward to an update and watching this build progress.

Re-positioned the engine and set it back further. Wasnt happy with the front bumper fit. Could be I didnt place it correctly, but had this gap So set the dividers, and using the edge as a guide. Scribed the distance to bring the bumper in. Can see here the improvement with the bumper fit, also smoothed the bumper. And added some styrene to clean up the front around the radiator which was also raised to suit the engine fan. Totally spaced when I first set the ride height, forgot to add the radiator support panel. When it was placed the front raised a few mm, so decided to lift the rear to level it out. Not so low anymore, so we will call it drive height. LOL! So a few mocks to show how it looks now.

Thank you. And a great build it is for a stock. I wouldnt say its a full on bad kit, just lacking in some area's. Hey Martin thanks for checking in, working on a few projects I will share. Not 100% certain but I think the 1109's had a tyre change and go by a different number now I think. Nah mate, got in over my head on the Mustang so back in the box until I want to work on it again.
-
Nah, to me it's just a kit and they are just part's So if you are not going to build the rail, part it out. Got a top fuel engine in my burnout ute build.
-
Wanted to tidy up the engine bay, so went for a smooth clean look.

Appreciate the interest in the topic guys. Wont be anything to over the top, just clean and simple. Il put most of my efforts into getting the body prep'd for paint. Had seen a few builds. Can see why they are popular, would make pretty cool street machines. I like choosing unusual subjects for Lowriders, makes for something different and fun. No fancy paint, got to stick with my trademark colours black with red interior. I try not to take any of my builds too seriously nowadays, just have fun adding some custom touches without getting too carried away. Simplicity, fun and finishing is what I strive for nowadays.
