"The Seven Trashcans of California" : My Photography

It's like those free gravy boats that are in hospitals. One can typically find them at yard sales mixed in with other kitchen and dining items and wares. -
Would the AMT Firestone pinstripe WW's work ? The ones in the Parts Pack ? They look skinny enough and have that tall sidewall...

I wish that I'd mentioned this earlier in your build : Those quarter windows are not the only issue with the body-interior-chassis mating - the inside of the body, just below the doors' daylight openings ("DLO"), needs to be sanded/ filed down some. The first one of these AMT '71 Duster kits I'd built (jeez... 26 years ago !) drove me insane trying to mate the body-interior-chassis ! At the time I said to hell with it, removed the quarter windows, and attempted a mating again. Still wouldn't seat properly ! I put the whole shebang back inna box and relegated it to the storage area. I got back to it a few years later ; a friend of mine told me how he sanded / filed down the aforementioned offending "bump" under the DLO and how that solved the fitment issues. RE: The quarter windows' surrounding mounting provisions : eliminate them ( I've used side cutters after scribing around the windows, then sanded the area smooth). RE: The tyres : the Slant Six equipped Dusters had , IIRC, C-78-14 tyres from the factory (which translates to, what, 185-75-14 ?).

"The Seven Trashcans of California" : My Photography

The title in the subject line is the working title for my upcoming book of my (crummy, lowbrow) photography. The subjects are abandoned, "disused" items which were cast-asunder on both public land and , in some cases, private property (albeit, without breaching gates, fences, and the like). I conceived the entitlement from the ridiculous amount of refuse cans found in fast food establishments and places of employment ; public areas as well (depending upon city / county). These receptacles compel diners to dig-through their trash like a hobo in order to dispose the appropriate items into the assigned bins. Abject rubbish. So, the title of my work was born ! Comments, critiques, and ad hominem attacks encouraged.

Dynamite ! Where's Dennis Leary ?

Gifts , such as boxes containing Waldo Jeffers , should be opened with care, otherwise someone's head get split-open, causing little rhythmic arcs to pulsate in the morning sun

I apologise if my quote-and-respond seemed as though it was ad hominem . I just wanted to clarify for those who aren't aware that AMT and MPC were separate companies until c.1986 ; that their respective Mustang II offerings are absolutely unique from each other.
-
It's actually an old AMT kit, sharing nothing with the MPC kits of the same car. It's nicely reissued - the options are fantastic ! A little wonky in some respects , but it's a good - and affordable - way to get a Mustang II vs. the pricy MPC versions around. I'm keen on the Keystone rims, and the 351-C / FMX combo ; the 2.8 V6 / 4-speed looks quite nice as well.

I've never had / built the SSlasher (nor any of its iterations), so I'll have to grab one or two this time around. The 1975/1976 Dart Sport Weekend Warrior will make it into my collection (along with a handful of other, fairly-recent editions of the kit, plus one of the c.1977 Smokey Chaser version), as I'm planning to make a Spirit of '76 with the Dart Lite decals - and here's to hoping that someone will 3D resin a '73 / '74 grille & tail lamp panel filler for the ol' MPC kit. One of the Dart Sport kits' weak points dates to the 1971 Duster annual : the front wheelbase is off side-to-side . That's a PITA if one wants to build OOB.

Sanding down TS primer.
1972coronet replied to D.Pack's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I wet sanded a final coat of Tamiya aerosol primer exactly one time. That was a mistake. Not that there any paint (colour coat) application issues, but the colour coat dried with virtually no gloss. Since that one instance, I've stopped sanding - wet or dry - the final coat of Tamiya primer. It made a positive difference. -
Ever go on a Road Trip in a Classic Car?

Most fun - and most devil-may-care - travelling a long distance was in early 1988. We took my friend's clapped-out 1973 Duster (318 / auto / 2.71 gear ) to Las Vegas... at night. He was 17 and I was 18 ; I didn't even have my driver's licence yet (haha). There wasn't a straight panel on that car, but it ran quite well. As we departed 'Vegas at 0200 hrs. the following day (having arrived around 2100 hrs.) , and a little lighter in the ol' Levi's, I'd admonished my buddy to put some gas inna car. He relented : " I just want to go !" It was quite cold (more so outside of Vegas, especially in the high desert areas), and the heater didn't work ; the el cheapo Kraco AM-FM-Cassette which was wired-into a house speaker - big old cabinet type from c.1980 , worked perfectly fine (20$ bargain basement setup sold through Track Auto back inna day) . Being the cautiously-nervous type (realistic in many instances) , I again argued that he needa stop for gas... somewhere before we got so far outta the State Line area and we freezing arse while waiting for some psycho (or preferably the CHP or Nevada State Police) to stop an' offer to take us to get some gas somewhere in BFE. We'd passed a station at the Zzyzx off ramp - "THERE ! Back there ! GAS !", I yelled. He stopped in the number three travel lane, and proceeded to back-up the rattle trap for 1/2 mile, and backward up the acceleration ramp. There it was : some unnamed gas station, the only spot open 24 hours for hundreds of miles. Some Kadiddlehopper exited his on-site mobile home, spit some chaw on the ground while wiping his weathered hands with a greasy rag : "How much'cha boys need ?", he asked "Whatever ten dollars'll get me.", my friend said nervously The old timer grabbed the nozzle like an asp , and shoved it into the Duster's fuel filler. There was absolutely no octane rating , nor was there even a price-per-gallon displayed on that old analogue pump, let alone a gallons indicator. We thanks him, then peeled out like O.J. Simpson. Whatever that gas was made the car run lie it had a flame up its arse ! Made it home fine, arriving around 0730. Next day, the Duster's original alternator died. -

Ever go on a Road Trip in a Classic Car?
1972coronet replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I suppose that my 2004 CVPI qualifies as classic given its age... My first long drive in that rascal was from western Riverside county to Prescott in February 2023. Total "Gonzo" trip ; left at 2200 hrs. and arrived at... 0600 the next morning (haha). Yep, I got turned around. Totally missed the turnoff to AZ 89; instead I started up AZ 93 ! Haha. All I remember is telling myself, Keep an eye open for a two-digit, odd-numbered, state highway. Yeah... 40 miles outta the way ! Car ran flawlessly the whole way there and back, through the snow and temps in the teens. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Same car, earlier this year - another "Gonzo" trip. Drove to Alameda (think: east bay of San Francisco, closer to Oakland) for me aunt's funeral & wake. T'was a pleasant drive - lots of rain late last year/ early this year provided the Central Valley with plenty of greenery (and, thankfully, no Tule Fog). I was able to drive an average of 75-85 MPH , which is the old pursuit car's sweet spot for cruising ; turned up an honest-to-God 28 MPG , too. Again, car ran perfectly. Just me and my collection of CD's and black coffee and Marlboro Reds. I'd do it again in a heartbeat ! -
Mr. Lin ! I have been anxiously awaiting another of your builds of a car on your channel ! Another masterpiece, good sir !

66 Chevelle Sedan - a different approach
1972coronet replied to Steamboat's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm surprised that no one ( myself included ) chimed-in earlier about that issue. I'd have recommended that you start with the Revell 1966 Chevelle Wagon and/or the '66 El Camino as your base. Now, that's not to say that the work you've performed is bad by any stretch of the imagination ; that's some mighty fine skill you've got ! May as well turn what' you've got there into a 1960's custom - chopped top, lowered, hopped-up six / 'glide , pinstripe white walls, and chromed steelies with Spider caps ? -
What to build?
1972coronet replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The new AMT F-100 kits. I've got two each, but I can't decide on colours ; can't decide if I want to swap the kits' engines for either a Ford I-6 (stock-stockish ) or one of the VCG 'stock' V8s. AMT 1963 full detail Nova Wagon. I want for a mildly customised version, complete with a resin I-6 / 3-speed (or 4-speed) to replace the kit's nice-but-lacking engine. Those two stand out in me mind right off. -
Last of the C-bodies (1974-78) . Starting with 1975, all Monaco models were redubbed 'Royal' , all body styles. I'd be keen on finding an 'A38' (Police Pursuit) version .
