Ford J Car Le Mans April Trials
Chris in Berwyn replied to Gramps46's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
When we were watching the movie and Miles headed out, my wife asked if he was going to die. I said I didn’t thing so, based on the fact he was not driving the J car. I was surprised that they didn’t correctly represent the J in that scene. -
That's a nice model!! BTW, if you are shooting pix on your phone, try backing away from the model, as much as 2 feet, then zooming in to take the pic. With a little experimentation you'll find you get much better depth-of-field.

Upcoming late '23-early '24 Revell releases
Chris in Berwyn replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I was hoping to see the Jag E-type convertible and/or the XK-SS. Paying the prices for the ROG kits is just a bit too much! -
I was most struck by the $54.99 price for the “Richard Childress Racing “ NASCAR Monte Carlo. Isn’t that a tool from the 80s? And looks like they don’t have licensing for the Earnhardt name.

Really well done! -
This is a 2010 Mustang convertible that I turned into a speedster. The tonneau, roll bars and front splitter were made from sheet plastic and plastic rod. I made the decals - I had more trouble than I expected with them, so probably will try to find someone to do them the next time. The wheels and brakes are resin - I found them on eBay, and the tires are from a Hobby Nunu BMW M6 race car. Paint is Tamiya Gunmetal over gray primer, and the clear is also by Tamiya. The wheels are painted with a light coat of Tamiya Dark Gunmetal over Tamiya black. The interior is Tamiya red (possibly Italian red.) The kit is the 2010 Revell snap kit - it builds up into a good looking Mustang! I came up with the idea for this build when building a near-replica of a Dave Kindig Galaxie, and decided I'd build the Mustang as a distant relative of the Galaxie.

1/25 AMT '68 Chevy Corvette Custom
Chris in Berwyn replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I finally got this kit. The very first model kit I ever had was the original AMT 68 Vette that’s been discussed in this thread. I’d like to get one, but they cost a fortune so I thought this would be a good way to at least get some of the parts, and be able to relive a little bit the assembly of my first ever kit as a boy. As mentioned, there are a lot of odd features. The oddest is probably the fact there is no exhaust system unless you use the Greenwood exhaust. There are exhaust manifolds and headers but no pipes, no mufflers, no nothing else. There also are no headlights, but since it’s a custom that is OK. I’ve been building a series of track day cars and this is going to be another in that series. It’ll be just a shelf model but I’m really looking forward to building it and putting it on the shelf. It’ll look great. -
Ollie's strike again
Chris in Berwyn replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So, Ollie's has some more kits. I saw on one of the Facebook groups that they now have some AMT kits. The only one I can recall from what was posted there is the AMT Groove Boss modified. So I hit the Ollie's in Cherry Hill, NJ, and found the below. I was a bit disappointed see the Nova wagon there - I would have hoped it would have sold better. Note all kits are $12.99, including the Monogram kits that hit Ollie's in the spring (the ones with the Ollie's sticker under the cellophane.) I believe they were $17.99 in the spring, so if I am remembering that correctly, this must be a second batch with a lower pre-price, as these stickers are under the cello too. The Facebook post showed more AMT kits than this, so hopefully your store will have a broader selection. -
Great work! Compliments on all of it, but esp the front suspension!

Everything about that is right!!!

Yes, Will Lockwood was there - and I did get a selfie! Will is amazingly talented. Was super-impressed by the fold down top he designed for a recent Kindig pickup project. It was nice to say hello! I was right by my build that was closely based on a Kindig build. First thing he did was look at the engine. Not sure what he thought of my choice an old-school 7 liter Vs the supercharged Coyote Kindig used!

'65 Ford Galaxie Convertible - Kindig-based
Chris in Berwyn replied to Chris in Berwyn's topic in Model Cars
Hi Steve, I had seen Curt's. He did a great job getting all the original details right! I saw Curt at GSL, and he said even tho you have moved you are still doing ALPs decals. Next time I am doing anything with custom decals I am getting in touch with you first! I like doing the artwork, but I have never had so much trouble using my DIY decals as I did with this build! Good to hear from you!! Chris -
'65 Ford Galaxie Convertible - Kindig-based
Chris in Berwyn replied to Chris in Berwyn's topic in Model Cars
Thanks! It came from the Modelhaus, which unfortunately is defunct. -
Very nice. That color stands out!

I got the idea for this from a Dave Kindig '65 Galaxie convertible. I reversed the silver and white parts of the paint scheme, and where Dave went with a supercharged Coyote 5 liter crate motor, I went with 7 liters of carbureted cast iron. Paint is Tamiya Light Gunmetal, the stripes are white paint or decal film, and the red stripes and side fade are decals printed on clear paper on my Canon printer. The only non-kit parts from the AMT 65 Galaxie 500 kit are the convertible boot from Modelhaus, the tires and wheels which came from the Revell Foose '67 Coronet, and the engine wiring and seat belt. I'd always wanted to build a convertible, and sawing the top off the kit body gave me my chance!! BTW, while the homemade decals got the job done, next time I am going to find someone with an ALPs and pay them to do it. There was just too much fighting with the decals.

I enjoyed building this. The paint is Automotivetouchup.com Pontiac Meridian Blue that I airbrushed on, with Tamiya TS-13 clear. The build is box-stock except for AMT parts pack tires and ignition wiring.

Randy Derr’s insane best of show (1/12 scale??) and a few others. I didn’t take a lot of pics. And a number that I did take were of the winners which will be posted soon I’m sure on the GSL site.

That’s a lotta models! Glad Atlantis is releasing more nice ex-Revell stuff. Altho to me the Miss Deal will always be Miss Deal! (Altho it would be nice if they fixed the headers!)
