  1. I would love to see the diamond in the rough unrestored 40 sedan reissued but I do not believe they are out of the same mold. If you get the two of them side-by-side, the fender unit is completely different and if I recall correctly the body has slightly different mold parting lines on it. interior pieces are also slightly different. The seat has molded in rips and tears etc.
  2. Did the Torino ever get finished??? Any pictures??? It has been 3 months since the last update.
  3. I told her this one and my wife just smacked me lol. I thought it was funny anyways.
  4. Little kids are like sponges when it comes to learning things. when my daughter was little her and I would go outside and I would show her stuff that as an adult I didn't even think about but to her was all brand new. stuff like how a pine tree has rough bark and a birch tree has smooth bark on an apple tree was somewhere in the middle. Pine trees have pointy sharp needles and the regular trees have leaves. Stuff that as an adult I take for granted that everybody knows but with her being brand new to the planet she didn't know yet. She loved learning stuff like that. And you also have the golden opportunity as an uncle to teach him stuff that he can go home and drive his parents nuts with and won't bother you at all. You score points for being a good uncle, plus you get to annoy your sister (a bonus when it came to my sister). Nothing that will get him in trouble or get him hurt but stuff like the little stopper on the baseboards that stops the door when its open and if you flick it goes SPROOOIINNG. Show him that and watch the aftermath. I taught my neice that one and it was funny for weeks at my parents house during visits. Show him that you can blow the horn on a car by pressing in the center of the steering wheel. As dumb as it may sound to an adult, teach him what light switch turns which light on or off and once he gets to the point that he can reach them on his own he will drive people (mostly his parents) nuts turning them on and off. As someone already suggested it, get him a couple of Hot Wheels. Real cheap fun, you get to be as good uncle and it'll keep him distracted. They also make hot wheels sets now that you can mount to the wall with temporary sticky tab things so they don't damage the paint on the wall. You can put them on the wall at his height and it will keep him entertained for hours. Worked great for both my daughter and my niece. plus, when it is stuck to the wall he can't knock it over. Any activity instantly has the fun doubled if you can add water. Playing in a sandbox? Bury a small bucket and fill it with water. Instant pond/lake/swamp/ocean depending. Hot outside? Hook up the sprinkler. No bathing suit? Even better. Most parents of young kids have at least one full change of clothes with them. Just be prepared to catch a bit of flack from your sis. And as someone stated most of the stuff you do with him now he will not remember the actual event. What he will remember is that you're the fun uncle to hang out with. Hope some of this is helpful.
  5. I was hoping when I first heard announced that the showboat was being reissued that they were talking about that kit. I robbed the engines out of the last complete kit that I had a while back. I have had at least 4 of those kits and I have never built the actual Showboat model. Love nailhead engines for hot rod builds.
  6. If that roadster gets cast I am interested depending on quality and price. I will pay modelhaus type price for modelhaus type quality. For jimmy flintstone type quality, you lost me as a buyer. Nothing against JF but I am not interested in a resin body that requires that much rework to be (IMO) presentable.
  7. IMO, whether at a full sized car show or a model car show, if you are there with the intent to win a trophy...... you are missing the point entirely.
  8. Check out the Detroit resin guys too. I think it is Chris Morgan that has the bumper and taillights/lenses. And yes they are far better than what is in the kits. He also has a flat hood to model a non-SS car. And as stated above the chassis and underhood detail leave quite a bit to be desired. Using the chassis from the 69 Olds W-30 or 442 kit is a drop in fit. To use the 68 elcamino kit requires some adjustment.
  9. Sign me up for a half dozen of the backdated little T. And at least one maybe two little Deuce kits.
  10. To save a bit of frustration.... the hood on the AMT 69 Chevelle 2 dr hardtop kit and the 90's tooling AMT 68 Elcamino kit are different sizes and will not interchange without some adjustments. I cannot remember off the top of my head which is bigger though. If you had the old school 69 Elcamino from way back the hood from the 69 Chevelle should fit as they are based on the same tooling but I do not have one (69 Elcamino kit) to verify that as fact. I have a couple of Kevins flat base hoods and they fit the Chevelle hardtop and convertible bodies A1.
  11. And from the "why didn't I think of that" file. Great tip. I will be using this one. Thanks!
  12. Just rolled into home. 1100 miles round trip. Great show this year.
  13. I quite often do this with wheels and tires. I build mostly old school hot rods and customs so the big wheel rubber band tire packages that are in a lot of the kits nowadays as the optional set of hot rod wheels hold no interest for me. However, I know a lot of guys like them. So I quite often will sell them at model swap meet for between$4 and $6 a set depending on how much I paid for the kit. Works well for me to get rid of parts that I was not going to use any way to be able to make the kit cheaper for me in the end. For example, the Revell 50 Ford pickup (yellow truck on the box art). I have sold several of them minus both sets of the wheels and tires and the complete Ardun converted flat head. I keep the flathead and the skinny wheels and white wall tires and small hubcap for myself sell the big dia wheels and tires off separately and then sell the rest of the kit. I mark it as being incomplete, missing engine and wheels and tires and I usually still get $10 for what is left of it. I will get between 5 and $6 for the large diameter wheels and tires out of it and that makes my engine, wheels and tires pretty cheap.
  14. That is pretty cool. It looks like it has seen a lot of hard miles.
  15. For anyone who has not already seen the thread about this guy, you should check it out before you think about sending either DRDEVIL72 or MOONSHINEANDCHROME any money.
  16. I was posting the information about a possible scammer so that if anyone had not seen the thread about him ripping off people on the board, then they would be aware.
  17. As DrKerry said in his post above, Just an FYI for anyone who hasn't already seen the thread linked above. Possible scammer. Caveat emptor.
  18. Not to nitpick but there is no "u" in Peterbilt.
  19. There is at least one tree missing. There are no floorboards shown in the test shot pics.
  20. I have used krylon paint before with no issues which is why I didn't test it first. I just sprayed it on the bare styrene. Within a minute or so it reacted badly with the plastic. It crazed it like the paint was too hot for the plastic. I was surprised and may have said a few bad words. Maybe I got a bad can. This was a couple of years ago.
  21. Test that short cuts paint before you use it on a body. I used that stuff in red on a Revell deuce roadster and the paint crazed the plastic bad enough that it was unsaveable. Was not a happy camper that day.
  22. I agree 100% with what Howard said. The other half of this is that for a new kit you can usually go down to your local store and buy it if you need it. For a collection of old kits or an estate sale it is quite often a case of being in the right place at the right time. And that is not always easy to do. When buying a collection from someone you also have to overcome their personal attachment to that collection. I actually just today went and looked at buying a gentleman's collection. 480 built kits. Pretty much all fairly nicely built, no glue bombs in the lot and most of them painted and decaled very nice. nothing extremely old, mostly kits from the last 25 to 30 years. a little bit of everything, rally cars, f1 cars, Ferrari's, Lamborghinis, Porsches, hot rods, customs a couple of big rigs and some 30's classics. The gentleman said he would only sell them as one lot altogether he didn't want to sell them bit by bit. This seemed reasonable to me as I was going to buy them, take maybe a dozen for my own collection and resell the rest to hopefully make a little bit of money to be able to buy more kits that I would want. When I asked him what he would need to have for the whole collection he responded that he would be willing to let them go for $20 per model. That is $9600 for built models. I then explained to him that we were way too far apart on price and that I wasn't even going to make him an offer. He pressed me to make an offer on the models to see what I would pay for them and I told him I was willing to pay 2 to $3 per model. He responded that there was no way he'd even think about letting them go for that type of price and that they had to be worth a minimum of $10 per model. I tried to explain that for some of them I would be able to sell them for $10 per model and for a lot of them I would on average get between five and eight dollars apiece for them. I tried to explain to him that I wasn't trying to insult him but that I was making an offer based on what I felt comfortable paying to be able to resell and get my money back and make a little bit for my own pocket. As Howard stated, as a seller, my time and my effort are worth a little something as well. In this case, the gentleman still has all of his models, I still have my money, & I am still on the lookout for a collection that needs a new home. There is lots of legwork to keeping the table full when I go to swap meets. I have looked at or just missed 20 or so collections and I have bought 3. Many more misses than hits.
  23. Also, just a month or two before the passing of their son they had made the announcement that they were going to retire in the spring of 2017. In response to that announcement, they were slammed with orders from folks wanting to get parts before they shut down. Then with the passing of their son, they understandably stopped making parts for a while.
  24. If you were to find a farm Toy Show there are usually guys there who sell parts and pieces to restore old toys. One guy local to me has about 15 different sizes of tractor tires and wheels along with a bunch of other parts. That way you can actually look the parts over in your hands before you buy. A little better than buying off of ebay on an "I think that looks right" hunch.
  25. The right to go to the bathroom when you need to is considered a basic human right and to take that right away is very illegal in most places. I would be making some phone calls.
