Don't think we have hit the "political" threshold yet and I hope we don't. I have been remotely working for almost two years now and I feel very lucky to have a job that pays the same as it did when I commuted 60 miles round trip. My car gets pretty good mileage and I can afford $6 gas for the amount of driving I am currently doing. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather spend the money on something else (like kits). I feel sorry for the Uber drivers, pizza delivery people, super-commuters, etc. that this gas situation is going to be very difficult on. What it will do to the price of kits, who knows? It is definitely more expensive now to put that shipping container from China on a truck in Long Beach or Oakland and deliver it to South Bend.

I haven't left the house today, but the name brand stations were getting dangerously close to $6 for regular yesterday.

What would YOU like to see as a model
Rodent replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And make sure to include some 1/24 scale dirty engine oil so you can make a diorama of what happens when the worn out rings make so much crankcase pressure that the front crank seal fails. -
Ford and Mazda, for instance, connect to a driver’s cell phone for crash notification. We are fine. The spouse got in a minor kerfuffle in 2018 that left Focus 1.0 (a 2014) perfectly driveable, but the knee bag deployed. It called 911 using the cell as it was programmed to do in a crash. My 2016 Mazda3 has the Millenial Anti-Theft System (shown below), so it doesn't have the 3G-based remote start system that Consumer Reports seems to have overlooked in their panic article. When I saw my first GM OnStar system I thought it was dumb, and manufacturers like VW, Audi, and Subaru that have built this kind of baloney into their vehicles over the years were asking for it to be obsolete. GM went through the same thing not long ago when 2G went away. Several generations of OnStar became obsolete when that happened. I think it's short sighted to build these kinds of things into the car instead of using the customer's mobile phone. My 2 cents. I know that some of you miss manual drum brakes, window cranks, and 3-on-the-tree with unsynchronized first gear and I respect that. I have a 72 year old friend that has four running 56 Fords, one that needs reassembly, and a parts car. He just put a set of (used) radial wide whites on one of them and was amazed at how much better the car drove than on the bias-plys he has been hoarding all these years for replacements.

1956 Revell Ford Country Squire
Rodent replied to bigskybob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The company I work for is a Ford licensee. I can't say what we do, but I think I can safely say that the era when Beanstalk represented them for licensing was definitely interesting. Long past though. -
What did you see on the road today?
Rodent replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not one, not two, but THREE 1969 Cougars. Two driving and one on a trailer. -
Looks like a 67 annual to me.

Not sure if you guys are subscribed to HPI Guy's channel, but I really like the unboxings and the builds. I bought a few kits that I probably never would have without seeing them out of the box, and didn't buy a few that I otherwise would have after seeing the build.

Container Ship Adrift in Atlantic with...
Rodent replied to TransAmMike's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
This touches on the ignition switch recall and goes on to discuss the cruise control deactivation switch debacle. Not sure how many fires were started, but Ford recalled millions of cars because of it. Having a leaky switch with electrons on one side and flammable brake fluid on the other is bad, m'kay? https://www.autosafety.org/ford-cruise-control-deactivation-switch-recalls-and-history/ All this said, an ICE vehicle fire is quite a bit easier to put out than an EV fire. -

Hyundai/Kia is currently having issues with their ABS modules causing fires when parked. I believe that Ford had leaky cruise control brake switches that caused fires when parked and ignition switches that could cause fires when parked or driving. I am sure there are others, so not never. https://www.consumerreports.org/car-recalls-defects/park-recalled-hyundai-kia-vehicles-outside-due-to-fire-risk-a1002120529/ -
I remember bringing a '71 Charger home from the drug store. Dad looked at the box art and forbid me to use those parts on my build, LOL.

T2 Camper and #212 from Burbank's House of Hobbies. Interested to try out the paint too. I already have the T1 and I have a T3 en-route, so I guess I really "collected them all", LOL.

Bought my first glue bomb. Need advice please.
Rodent replied to Mike C.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Some of the diehard glue bomb restorers recommend photo-etch saws. Don't have any myself, but it does sound like a good idea. -

What song(s) make you wish for an open road and no speed limit?
Rodent replied to Jantrix's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
A radio station here did an amazing job of attracting some "not yet known" bands and some "yes we're known" bands and putting together concerts for $25-40. Many of them were in smaller venues and on weekday evenings. That's where we saw Lit. Green Day was supposed to be here a few times with other opening acts, but they never showed. If you had tickets to one of the concerts they were a no-show at, you got free tickets to the next one they were scheduled to appear at. At the first no-show concert, the first band to play was an unknown "punky" band from Poway, CA. They were amazing, and extremely high energy. Nobody knew who they were at the time, but you are probably familiar with Blink-182 now. We saw them several times, and they eventually elevated to main act. -

What song(s) make you wish for an open road and no speed limit?
Rodent replied to Jantrix's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Saw them in concert here in Crackramento back in the day and the entire crowd was bouncing up and down playing air guitar during this song. Still one of my favorites (favourites). Yeah, but I have personal experience that reminds me you can't hear much of anything in a Fox body other than wind over about 110 mph. Especially a modded one that still has 3.08:1 gears, an SSV 140 mph speedo, and a girlfriend riding shotgun. This is a good one, but must be played so loudly that you will never hear the sirens behind you. Watch the mirrors. Anything Floyd is amazing. The opening sequence to Top Gun is one of my favorites. Can't imagine what it feels like to be spat off of a carrier like that or how difficult it must be to hit the cable landing when your runway is moving up and down. Berlin's Take My Breath Away in the same movie was splendid as well. -

Reactions are not replies. They are reactions to one of your posts using the heart-shaped button on the right. I just reacted "confused" to your post. -
I am lucky I didn't burn mine down. I had it in the shop for something (I did most of my own work, but certain things were not appealing to do at home) and got a call that I needed the rubber fuel and return lines in the engine compartment replaced. Surprised that they hadn't leaked a long time ago and the car had less than 100k on it. The hoses weren't in an obvious enough place that they would be seen unless you were looking for them. The only oil leak I ever had was from the thermostat for the engine oil cooler. Fairly simple DIY re-seal with ~$12 in parts. After having a Mustang, I was surprised at how inexpensive parts were for the BMW and how EVERYTHING was still available. I never broke anything expensive, but normal maintenance and wear items were cheaper than the Mustang for the most part.
