Speaking of the card table clan, I like to read the model boards on Facebook. There are some amazing modelers there, especially some of the International guys. Then there are those guys who are pleased with their brush painted bombs. It’s interesting to see the perspectives. Here’s a post that gave me a chuckle…

Great model! My father was US Army and we lived in Germany from 1969-72. We had a red Beetle like this one, a US export car. Someone hit the back bumper so my dad had to replace it with the narrow Euro bumper. That’s how I’ll always remember it and someday build a model

Wow! 2015! So this stalled project stalled out a second time six years ago! Well it’s back on the bench for the “Bring Out Your Dead” project for stalled old projects. I was going to start a new build thread but did a Google search and found this one. That saves me a lot of explaining and typing since you can just scroll back and read this thread from the start. Anyway, I pulled it out this week and started to fiddle a bit. I got brave and scribed the missing door lines using a tip from the board. I had a roll of the old Dymo label maker tape, which was suggested as a scribing edge since it’s self adhesive and will stick to the body contour. Worked wonderfully! Thats when I noticed just how bad my roof seam was. It actually dipped down, but only on one side. I decided I had to fix it.. or make it worse, however it will come out. I’m only concerned with the area from the side glass to the chrome roof strip, as the center will be covered with the roof rack. So I cut out the offending section and held my breath. I had extra roof section pieces since I had cut up three bodies over time. Man, Johan kits are tough to cut! Per 1960 molding technology the roof was very thick. And having three Johan bodies from different eras, each was a different plastic. The front and back donors… one was hard plastic and hard to scribe. The other was soft and easy like a modern kit. The roof section came from a black plastic body that was hard and would shatter like kit glass instead of bending on the scribe lines. And being very careful.. cutting the roof small, the plug large and incrementally sanding until I got a snug fit, I believe it’s there! My pack rat tendencies to save everything meant that a useless scrap roof section was in my parts box. That became our plug. See it in the foreground in last photo.. you can even see where it shattered. So I’m done for the day!

I have their interior handle set and use them regularly. I’m not aware of any external ones.

WIP: AMT 1951 Chevy Convertible from Sun Cruiser box
Tom Geiger replied to MrMiles's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Miles, test fit the engine bay panels. I understand there are some fit issues. Maybe someone with first hand knowledge can chime in. -
As you know, the AMT pickup is a long wheelbase camper special. If you want a short wheelbase pickup there are probably kit bash possibilities using the Moebius pickups. I understand that the Ford Stepside box is pretty much from 1953 onward. I don’t know how far back from 79 the flat side box would be similar.

And even then there is very little area to drill! It would be nice if he molded in a mounting pin so we could just drill a hole in the body to mount. Those not interested could just cut it off.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Ain’t that the truth! As I pull a few projects off my shelf, I cannot remember the issue that stalled them. -
He has a few different ones for specific car makes. Check his website. They are very nice and to scale.

1950 Chevy 3100
Tom Geiger replied to bluestringer's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks good! That kit does have some fit issues up front. I had a hard time getting it to assemble with the stock engine. -
I used Panzer gray for car chassis and contrasting interior colors. Grab it!

I saw something cool yesterday, July 4th......
Tom Geiger replied to larman's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
There is a helicopter museum and airport in Westchester, a few miles away. We see interesting copters in the air. Never got any pix! -
Straightening up between projects! I put a new filter and bottom liner in the spray booth, so I’m ready for the next project. Then I started through my unfinished project shelf. I knew I had this All American 55 Chevy sedan. What I didn’t know was I had a complete AcuPro photoetch set in the box. I swear I never saw it before! I had an idea of doing a taxi… Then I found this! A right hand drive dashboard! I don’t remember ever making this! But there it is! So now what do I do? Did they ever use Chevys for taxi cabs in Australia or any other RHD country?

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Okay! As I work my way through my ancient projects, I am entering the 1960 Plymouth Airport Limo. My Fotki build album was started almost 19 years ago, so I’m sure it qualifies! It’s been on the bench a few times over the years, but I’d like to see it done! Hey, if I can get through that Studebaker, I can do anything! ? -
Problem with Tamiya TS-13 Clear
Tom Geiger replied to David G.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This could be your problem.. clear on bare plastic. The Tamiya clear is designed to be sprayed over their paints. The absence of primer / paint coats may be the issue. -
