Cool! I could go the early Record! Not in the group, I’d like to see a 1968 or so Kadett and first gen Manta. We didn’t get the Commodore or later Manta in the USA.

*Best Looking Car/Truck Model You've Seen*

Here’s two photos of Doug’s Studebaker as it sits in the International Model Car Builders Museum. I took the photos GSL week in 2005. -
Great work so far! I like the in progress threads because once it’s all buttoned up and finished, it looks like it might have come out of a box that way.. at least that’s the goal! I ran into the same interior width issues with putting the 59 Chevy interior into a 59 Buick resin body. The Buick dashboard was sooo much more narrow than the Chevy interior!

The big question.. why remove it? Glue a matching wheel back in the other side and you’re hood! Improvise when working with used parts.

About newspapers.. we don’t get any, get our news on Internet and TV these days. A funny side effect.. I needed some newspaper to wrap some stuff for storage.. didn’t have any!

Once the new kit was out, I believe I got my older version for $30-40. I still wanted it since it’s an older version and short wheelbase. It seems to be a blunder on the part of Monogram. I understand that it was released in USA and it didn’t sell well so they never reissued it. Yea, US market for foreign SUVs wasn’t there in 1981. But the appeal in the International market was always huge.. I don’t know what Monogram’s reach was back then but they should’ve been able to broker a deal with Airfix or Heller to tap that market. I was told at one point that the tool no longer exists, but it would be interesting if Atlantis has it. -

I owned a teardrop trailer about 1980. It was very old at the time and had no manufacturer Mark so we assumed it was built by a very skilled owner. Mine had the kitchenette at the rear as shown but only had a propane stove with two burners. No oven. It had a sink and a few cabinets, all fashioned from aluminum. Interior detail wise, the entire floor was one large mattress. At the head was a doorless closet with a single bar for hangers. It wasn’t deep at all, the hangers had to be sideways. The water tank was at your feet. Mine had a door with screened window on either side and a screened roof vent. Behind the doors was a single deep shelf for supplies and such occupying the space above your legs as you lied down. -

Ha! That describes Barrister customs! Fireball 500 for example, only customized what would be seen on camera. Car was completely stock 273 Barracuda under the hood. Same thing with interior!

I can swear I saw one in 1/24 or 1/25 scale in diecast, maybe First Gear but I didn’t find any for sale on eBay. -
Remember the good old days ??????????
Tom Geiger replied to Vietnam Vet67's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My grandfather’s father died young and left a family with six kids. My grandfather and his brother George left school to support the family, securing jobs on the railroad at 14 and 15. That association worked for them, both retired from Railway Express. He didn’t go to WWII because his work on the railroad was considered essential. My grandmother grew up at Ideal Beach at the NJ shore. She was one of six sisters. Her father was a builder and owned the local boarding house. During prohibition, he had the local speak easy. The mob from the city came down to muscle him out of business. They overloaded all his supply into a truck, which didn’t make it out of town. The local police saw that he got his “grape juice” back and protected his operation. He died in 1940. My grandparents met at the shore. My grandfather and his best friend John stayed at the boarding house, met and married two of the sisters. That foursome was inseparable for life. The sisters died exactly one week apart. -
Very nice and clean work. I have a convertible set aside that I got as far as painting the body!

I’m surprised a store still has paint at those prices. I did buy the spray cans of military flats, figure they’ll be good for interior tones and such.

Remember the good old days ??????????
Tom Geiger replied to Vietnam Vet67's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The good old days are what you made of them... I was reading a bit that a person who was born in 1906 lived through the Spanish Flu, World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, several recessions, Korean War, Viet Nam War... and I know I forgot some! I found this interesting since my grandparents were from this era.. they never spoke of their hardships. Except when my grandmother would say, “You kids would be whining if you were first on the breadline!” The depression era reference was lost on us 1960s kids! -
What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was built as a mill in the early 1800s. One of the oldest farms in town. Everything here in our area of Pennsylvania is stone, so a lot of old structures survive. -
