That engine is looking Swwweeeeeeet!

Opening hood. Not that I like inaccuracy, but in this case, it's really not enough to be offensive to my eyes. My 2 cents.

Me as well. I love seeing the process of an illustrator's ideas from thumbnail sketch to drawing to finished rendering , and in this case, to 3D model. Fun to see the ones that got away, too; those that just halted or changed direction for whatever reason.

Testors silver paint question

Krylon dull auminum. Sprays nice, covers well, especially decanted and airbrushed. -
Super cool black rod. This is the kind of model that made me want to build model cars to begin with, way back!

Handsome car. These old Monogram GTOs actually build up very nicely. Paint detailing will go a LONG way to help the chassis. Even though the undersides and interior look simplified in the box, once properly painted they will surprise you. There have been some real beauties made with these kits. Aftermarket tires are the best investment to upgrade the overall appearance, and since you have invested so little in the kit, you can treat yourself! I'd love to find a few of these at that price! Find a good barrier coat for that red plastic...

You made a VERY attractive color there! Your proposed color combo sounds beautiful. I'm looking forward to this build's progress!

Fun build idea! What's the source of your V-12?

I think you are both close, but not exact. The distributor IS above, but it must be offset to the side (as seen from straight ahead) enough for the gear on its vertical shaft to mesh with the pump's horizontal shaft/gear assembly. Look closely at the photos above. Good stuff in this thread!

If you want a legit 1/24 BBC in your BADMAN, look no further than Monogram's '65 Vette; stock or street machine version, it's a VERY nicely done Chevy Big Block engine.

Wow! Those AMT panels really got twisted up, didn't they?! As for the arm rest, neither is fully right or wrong is it? The AMT may be closer, as an indented area IS correct. It can be seen in the photo of the white interior. Not all Chevelles, even SS cars, had the chrome strip in the recess. The white example above does not. If the Revell strip is raised, then it is technically incorrect; it should be a raised strip within a trench, and so mostly flush at the surface. All Chevelles from 68-72 use the same arm rest base, and good close-up photos can be seen from supply houses like OPG, etc. BTW, that 65 engine looks right on! Nice job. Keep the compo coming!

Don't forget the little hose that connects from the top center of water pump to front of intake; it's a Big Block Chevy distinctive feature. If your BBC uses the cast iron intake (painted), the hose and its clamps would also be painted engine color, as they were assembled together before the blocks were painted. Loving this thread!

Lookin' good!

Agree with others here; that's a very tasteful 2-tone on the Merc.

Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
bisc63 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Just curious, is the AMT '69 an AMT tool (originally), or was it one of the MPC tools they acquired? I ask because it seems from what I've read over the years that MPC was notorious for the 1/26 or 1/27 scaling of their 1/25 cars! The differences in AMT vs. Revell bodies got me wondering about that... -

Really interesting to see a comparison like this; BIG thanks for posting!

Straight onto the bench from the mailbox! 1968 Chevelle!
bisc63 replied to Superbird McMonte's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great pictures, and thanks for taking the time to do those extra detail shots! The more I see, the more I know I gottahavit! Rear seat back looks a bit "angular", but that's a quibble I have with most Revell kits, and can be much improved with sandpaper and files. GOTTAHAVIT!!- 32 replies

Did anyone else just slide/toss their amt 69s off the workbench; either actually or symbolically? Seriously, this is looking really nice. If there are quibbles, they appear to be small. Can we get a better shot of the dash and seat upholstery? Pretty please?!- 32 replies

Dang! Just a few years ago, one of those was sitting in the weeds just off the highway not twenty miles from me. I stopped to look it over, but could never find anyone at home at the nearest house, whom I assumed were the owners. (Their driveway also ran just past the car) It was a beauty of a fixer-upper, and SO worth saving; a sort of pale gold color with pale gold and black interior. One day, it was just GONE... I'll be watching this build with much interest of the proverbial "one that got away"!
