Glue Bomb Projects--EMPI Imp and '65 Falcon AWB
bisc63 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Those "dampers" in the above pictures - they go through holes in the trunk floor, but where do they end up? Are they mounted to the trailing ends of the roll cage? (My guess) A lot of experimentation back then! Many pictures of the Warbucks Falcon also show odd looking (to me!) wheelie "casters", that I can't find any info or detail shots of. I'd love to model them correctly on my build, but references are scarce to say the least. -
Glad I got one of these way back before the war. Most people will never turn theirs over once displayed, but you should! This kit ( and most of this series from Revell ) has one of the most beautifully engraved one-piece chassis you will ever see! The amount of care and detailing that went into the engraving is beyond belief, and surpasses most "full detail" chassis; just look at all that's there! The more you look, the more you find; dang near every bit you should see is accounted for. Simply an artistic execution of the subject.

Good luck! Post pics; I love these kits!

That is SO cool. Post progress pics!

Cool! Older kits still hold their own in the right hands! Well done, and the color choices are especially nice.

Nice appearance; truly illustrates the value of attention to the basics of model building. This looks way better than one would expect upon opening the box, and its thanks yo your clean building style and thoughtful use of color.

1968 Chevy Corvette 427 L/88 Convertible resto Update! 2/2/19

That carb is INSANE! -
This is SOOOOO cool! Thought about color scheme yet? I really can't imagine a color that won't look good on this style.
-
Good save! Really like that color.

Vette engine is the most detailed, I meant to say. Of course there are others. Only nits I pick on it are the undersized radiator hose (easy fix) and too small cooling fan (also easy fix/replace). Dig the intake texture, separate water pump, starter, etc. Very nice engravings. (OK, the valve covers could be better; rob from kits mentioned ) Here's the stock version...

That engine is looking Swwweeeeeeet!

Opening hood. Not that I like inaccuracy, but in this case, it's really not enough to be offensive to my eyes. My 2 cents.

Me as well. I love seeing the process of an illustrator's ideas from thumbnail sketch to drawing to finished rendering , and in this case, to 3D model. Fun to see the ones that got away, too; those that just halted or changed direction for whatever reason.

Testors silver paint question

Krylon dull auminum. Sprays nice, covers well, especially decanted and airbrushed. -
Super cool black rod. This is the kind of model that made me want to build model cars to begin with, way back!

Handsome car. These old Monogram GTOs actually build up very nicely. Paint detailing will go a LONG way to help the chassis. Even though the undersides and interior look simplified in the box, once properly painted they will surprise you. There have been some real beauties made with these kits. Aftermarket tires are the best investment to upgrade the overall appearance, and since you have invested so little in the kit, you can treat yourself! I'd love to find a few of these at that price! Find a good barrier coat for that red plastic...
-
You made a VERY attractive color there! Your proposed color combo sounds beautiful. I'm looking forward to this build's progress!
-
Fun build idea! What's the source of your V-12?
-
I think you are both close, but not exact. The distributor IS above, but it must be offset to the side (as seen from straight ahead) enough for the gear on its vertical shaft to mesh with the pump's horizontal shaft/gear assembly. Look closely at the photos above. Good stuff in this thread!
-
If you want a legit 1/24 BBC in your BADMAN, look no further than Monogram's '65 Vette; stock or street machine version, it's a VERY nicely done Chevy Big Block engine.
-
Wow! Those AMT panels really got twisted up, didn't they?! As for the arm rest, neither is fully right or wrong is it? The AMT may be closer, as an indented area IS correct. It can be seen in the photo of the white interior. Not all Chevelles, even SS cars, had the chrome strip in the recess. The white example above does not. If the Revell strip is raised, then it is technically incorrect; it should be a raised strip within a trench, and so mostly flush at the surface. All Chevelles from 68-72 use the same arm rest base, and good close-up photos can be seen from supply houses like OPG, etc. BTW, that 65 engine looks right on! Nice job. Keep the compo coming!

Don't forget the little hose that connects from the top center of water pump to front of intake; it's a Big Block Chevy distinctive feature. If your BBC uses the cast iron intake (painted), the hose and its clamps would also be painted engine color, as they were assembled together before the blocks were painted. Loving this thread!
