This eBay seller is nuts...
Modelbuilder Mark replied to BlackSheep214's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Except that sealed kit is likely far less accessible than a McDonalds cheeseburger. (supply/demand) While I do not understand it, does not mean I can assign MY value of something to someone else. I only buy kits I am willing to build or part out, period. I have no collector kits once I own them. There was a guy a couple years back selling an un-opened box of Hot Wheels from 1970 or thereabouts, and they wanted THOUSANDS for it, and someone paid it. The seller was saying that they hoped the buyer would keep it sealed to maintain it's collectability, but without knowing what was inside, you could be buying all of the worst car from that year, or a fraud deal. -
Right! I mean, maybe it is an age thing or an OCD thing, but I enjoy the sorting and organizing. WHen I am dong it, projects come to mind, and it helps me know what I have, rather than a random parts box. If someone says, "hey, does any one have (insert part here)", then if I can recall it great, if not I can find out faster. But the process of sorting, and "groking" in itself is enjoyable.

Incredible, I would really like to be in a position to discover and acquire a stash like this at some point!

Ohhh that is exciting. Nice kitbashing ops, but also can be fun sorting and organizing all those bits and pieces. Plus, even the boddies you do not want, you can either use for paint bucks, or even trade fodder. Nice.

I was inspired by the Alexander Brothers Grasshopper pickup when I built "cricket". I started with Lindberg cab, parts box fenders, 29 bed, parts of the Ala-Kart chassis were modified then Z'd for the rear, motor, from the '50 Ford truck, and various other parts box bits and pieces. Color is Scalefinishes.com enamel. Here is a link to the in process pics - https://public.fotki.com/machman/models/builds-2016/cricket-32-ford-pickup1/#media

Hobby Lobby
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
SOoo.., I emailed Hobby Lobby to ask if they were discontinuing model kits or not, and got a not so clear, and certainly not reassuring response. -
Very cool, are you going to weather it to look like it has seen several years of service?

You cannot use the coupon on a sale item, but I have noticed they have had a lot of sales, I sent an email to the company to see if they are going to discontinue model kits, as I have not seen any new inventory in quite some time, despite the multiple quarterly releases. -
Cool, I have not seen a box stock of this in some time .

This eBay seller is nuts...

I grew listening to my father say "something is worth what someone else is willing to pay", so one guy might pay $900 for a concert ticket, where someone else might not walk across the street to see the same convert if their ticket was free. Another consideration, he is getting seperated/dovorced or is in an argument with his spouse where they are being asked to "thin that collection", and they have listed them to say they did with the hopes they di not sell, but at a price they can tolerate in the event someone actually buys them. -
What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Modelbuilder Mark replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Was watching/participating with my son in a live streaming Hot Wheels Legends' tour this month where they have owners of 1:1 cars compete to have their cars replicated in HWs form.(They used to be in person live events, but were COVIDified to only). They held a drawing to give away two HWs throughout the event, and I was lucky enough to be one of the lucky names called of of a few thousand attendees, so totally unexpected. This just came in the mail. -
I also want the new it releases, and try to encourage younger builders, like my grandson by building with him and my young son using Airfix Quiclbuilders, or Snap kits of Batmobile or Scooby Mystery Machine etc. I buy both new releases when available that I have interest in (much of the Moebius line), but I am happy to pick up some of the old kits because they may be something I missed years ago, or they fill a gap, or I can part them out for other projects. Long story short, there is room for both. I do agree that Round2, if they want to think really long term, must start working in more new tooling over time. However, it may simply not be a long term goal of theirs. I have no first hand knowledge, but not all business models are intended to be Long Term. Think about the sheer number of products that you see released "as seen on TV' for example, that will fad away in a VERY short order. They intend to take what profit they can, while they can. They are clearly generating enough revenue to justify continuing the release based on the tools they have. This also includes tooling up new parts, decals, tampo tires etc., so if everyone likes it not, enough people are clearly pleased enough to keep the stream flowing. This may have been addressed by Round2, but I do not recall seeing if they ever intend to tool a lot of new kits. The are not exclusively a model company after all. There are MANY folks on here that have a bucket list item or "holy Grail" kit they are looking for that is certainly far below what new tooling is capable of, but that does not stop us from seeking those out.

They do indeed look very similar to these Goldline racing tires on a GT40, except the letter is not filled as they are on the GT40. Someone posted back in 2018 that they were in an AMT release of the Warren Tope mustang.

I just read through the thread, and I must have missed it. Which candy red did you use? The color looks great, but you mentioned that the gold base may have been a problem. What gold were you using?

Nice, ready for a weekend mountain ascent.

Those look great! I have a 40 phantom on my bench right now and I would be thrilled if turned out as nice as yours. They look great.

Kiss, with AC/DC as opening, winter 1978 at Market Square Arena Indianapolis (My older brother took me to see them, and it was a blizzard that year, we had to stop and break ice off the wiper blades) -

Great looking finish and engine detail. Just curious, which clear/candy red did you use?
