Best glue for fabrics and styrene?
espo replied to Mike C.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Depending on the type of fabric and the finish you are trying to accomplish I would start with good old Elmer's white glue. I would experiment on some scraps before committing to the finished model. As for "carpet" in a model there are so many other options to consider other than a fabric material. -
I actually found the grill and headlight area correct to my eye. I have owned a '66 as well as a '67 El Camino in the past. The '66 grill design has the top chrome trim extends runs across the top of the grill and the leading edge of the hood and extends down and back on the front fenders. This may give the impression that the headlight trim extends to far out, but that really isn't the case. I just relooked at a '66 El Camino kit I built when they were first released just to see for myself and it appears just as I remember on the one I owned.

Beautiful looking Charger. I like the way you do your showroom builds. Great looking paint job and the colors go well together.

Good to know. I'm not familiar with their kits. What all do they offer? -
Great job changing the kit body to a 4- door sedan.

Great looking build. Nice engine detailing and I like how you did the interior.

Beautiful looking finishes and your vinyl roof looks just like the 1:1. I like the showroom style of your build.

SAtill looks great even after all this time. The monotone color schemes were also common at that time.
-
Beautiful looking paint finish and color. I agree this kit takes a little reworking on the builder's part. Considering the age of the tooling and the sometimes-dodgy proportions that were considered normal at the time, this still makes a great looking model, case in point.

The paint color and finish look great. Real nice wheels. 30+ years ago I had a GMC shorty in the factory color somewhat like this. The wheels were never this nice. -
Beautiful looking tribute.

Beautiful looking build. Lots of fine detailing. This is one fiddly kit.

I agree with everyone else on your color choice. Great looking paint finish and the white interior goes well with the exterior. Sharp chrome trim .

What did you see on the road today?

I guess I'm old and out of touch, but when you have a nice set of wheels why would you paint them black so that you can't see any of the wheel details ? I realize that this seems to be the style now, but why not just put some steel wheels on a car if you're trying to hide the wheels appearance ? -
Have built a few and like these a lot. What theme are you going for on this build?

Great looking finishes. Looks like this truck could tell a lot of stories. I like the extra touches in the bed. -
Great looking Dodge. Good paint schema and the colors look good together. Nice cleanly done chrome trim and there is plenty of trim.

This kit looks to be in excellent condition. Great subject and look forward to watching your build.

Not on the road but in a body shop I stopped at. This shop owner has done a lot of miner body and paint projects for me in the past. He had a fiberglass '32 Hiboy in the shop getting ready for paint. The power train was a 350/350 with open headers. I go back in a few weeks for some work on my Charger and I'll try and remember to take some pictures. -
The only problem with Goodwill and any other similar places in the area is that the only things they have are what people couldn't unload at their garage sales.

Most dealers would order their inventory with the vinyl roof to add additional profit margins and many customers did like the look. I also remember the MoPar Mod Roofs and in many cases they could look interesting. I mentioned the lightly painted roofs. At one time in the '60's I was living in the San Barnardino area which is pretty dry and very hot during the summer. This would dry out and crack many dark colored vinyl roofs after a couple of years. A friend had a body shop and he showed me a car he was repairing for a customer and he mentioned that that car and many others had little more than the body colored over spray on the roof when he removed the vinyl covering. There were even shops that were spray painting the roofs of some cars to look like a vinyl roof covering at the time.

Great looking build. The story behind this car and all that Smokey did to it is very interesting.
