  1. Part of the Air Cleaner confusion has to do with the Smog Emissions Equipment. I bought a new '67 El Camino while living in southern California. The engine was the afore mentioned L34 350 hp, in '67, with a 4-speed. The problem was the Emission System and the way that the Re-circular Air Injector System was required to work with California emissions. They were required to inject a controlled amount of exhaust gasses into the enclosed Air Cleaner on the clean side of the filter element using a belt driven pump, the Valve Covers were vented to the dirty side of the Air Cleaner, any blow by would clog the filter element quickly, and a Crank Case Vent Valve from the other Valve Cover to the Carb. Most every where else the open element Air Cleaner would be used. What was happening, and what I did, was use the open element filter setup from the '65 Chevelle 395 or the full size cars with the high horse power big block. This was a very common day two or the afternoon of the date of purchase. Every two years you would have to put all the old stock equipment back on for your Smog Inspection to renew your License Plates. Plan "B" was to register your car in one of the Counties that still didn't require inspections of the equipment. Since the Statute of Limitations has long since run out I think you know what I did. Most Chevrolet and other GM Dealers kept a regular stock pile of these Air Cleaner setups in their parts departments for a long time. I think it would be safe and better looking to have the open element Air Cleaner on your build now that I have bored you with my explanation.
  2. I noticed this question is still running. This morning I found the jar of "The Treatment" wax/polish that I based my comment on. The jar is just under 2" high and an one and a half inches in diameter with a yellow label. The jar is old enough that there is no web site address on it. On the label it states: Removes fine scratches, and I think this is where I ran into my problems because it was pretty aggressive in this area. The label also mentions removing smears and fingerprints, deepens color and protects clear plastic from fogging. As many others have mentioned the Carnauba Wax would make decal applications risky at best.
  3. My compliments on having three pedals, I.E. a manual transmission. Every year there are fewer and fewer Americans that seem to even know how to operate such a device. I happen to not be one of them.
  4. Hang in there. Take care of your family and hopefully in the near future things will improve to the point that you will be able to get back to modeling and finish your 240Z project. We all have had to step back at times in our lives. Just remember the old saying "What doesn't kill you will make you better". I hope you get better soon.
  5. Like you this isn't something I would build normally. I do like the Alfa's and I may try one sometime in the future. I just have to many waiting in the Que right now. But I really do like the way this turned out for you and hope your wife appreciates your build also. I did a '67 Chevelle SS396 for my wife a few years ago. Both my style and something she liked also.
  6. Great looking pictures and I also like the sky shots. My question, since I have moved cross country before, is why you had to hire separate groups to load and the truck transportation ? We used moving companies and they provided their own loaders and unloaders at each end of the move.
  7. Like the Snake I didn't know anything about the TV program before this kit came about. Not something I would get very worked up over it sounds like. Now the kit and especially the subject being something out of the ordinary is why I have two to build now.
  8. They have done very well in this form of racing as well. The World Rally Cup racing is what I find so amazing. I have seen these things fly, literally, off the gravel road thru ditches over tree stumps back on the road and bounce of a boulder or two and just keep going. Their gas pedal seems to be an On/Off switch.

  12. I like how you habve changed the body for the better. I remember the '50/'48 Ford F-1 build. Just follow that pattern and it will look killer. Maybe leave the chrome hub caps also.
  13. With the bad things I have heard about trying to paint this type of interior material you might consider casting it in resin that would then be easier to paint. I like the looks of the wheels and tires at this point.
  14. The Camaro looks good, especially with the LS3 engine, The Audi is the one I would like to see more off. I think they are great cars anyway but as a Shooting Brake, Long Roof, or Wagon they just seem much more interesting.
  15. While somewhat off the subject but still about Volvos. Should someone want to see just how sturdy these vehicles are just look up some of the Swedish Rally film clips on YouTube.
  16. They're either going retro or they're very old stock. Ha Ha. Either way should work.
  17. The earliest spin on filters were a medium to dark blue in color. I'm thinking the white filters started sometime in the '70's.

  19. Here here. The SWC team was a force to deal with in Drag Racing and if you blinked they would put you on the trailer as quick as anybody.
  20. I would suggest applying the decals before the clear coat. Many have different opinions on this but this is mine. I have only used "The Treatment" model wax once and while it will give you a shine in my experience it turned out to be a little more aggressive than what I needed at the time and went thru the color coat in my case. My thought is that if you used this product after the decals are applied it may damage the decals. Will be interesting to see what others suggest.

  22. I agree, very clean looking and the paint work is really nice. I like the headlight tint also.
  23. To each their own. I would be embarrassed to be seen even close to it, but that's just me. Others may look upon it and get excited, although I don't know why.
  24. Sort of their answer to the fiberglass T Bucket kits or even the Myers Manx type kits, only cooler looking. Not much weight so the small engine may make this an interesting Play Toy.
  25. There has been a lot of discussion about the rear Bumper position on this kit. When I look at it I have to agree that the Bumper should sit higher or closer to the Tail Lights and rear Body Panel based on what I see in the pictures of 1:1 cars here. What I have noticed based again on these pictures is that the rear Bumper doesn't come all the way down to the bottom edge of the rear Quarter Panels. Looking at the pictures of both the blue Chevelle and the lt. Metallic Green SS395 it appears that the lower edge of the Quarter Panel is actually lower than the rear Bumper. Depending on the angle in my mind it looks as if you could draw a line from the bottom edge of the body panel and it would align with the rear most edge of the Bumper. This would put the leading edge of the Bumper just above the body panel where they meet.
