Best way to ship a lot of models?
espo replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Is it practical for you to return and pack your models yourself. I have moved several times including cross country using Commercial Movers. I have been fortunate in that any damage has been very minimal. No mater how you have your kits transported they will experience a lot of vibrations and even some hard shaking. What I did was to wrap each model with Tissue paper inside the box that the model was purchased in. I then put the boxed models in regular size shipping boxes that most Movers use. Make sure that the boxes are fairly tight inside the shipping boxes to minimize any movement. With this type of packing I think any Commercial Moving Company would be your best bet for transportation unless you can get a Rental Van and do it yourself. Hope these helps and good luck on your move. -
I would like to see the show but what ever you got there would be nice also. I used to enjoy looking at the pictures from all of the shows that I just could not attend. I'm interested in what others in the Hobby are building.

Update on Stupid in the heartland. I mentioned the 14 year old girl that didn't want to go to school so she does the false "school threat" post and then someone else did it today for another area school. Makes me wonder what color of sky is in these kids world. But yesterday we had our finest hour. Seems some guy steals someones PT Cruiser and goes for a joy ride and crashes. Then he somehow steals an ATV and ditches all of his clothes. He is next seen on the highway ( you might want to check You Tube on this) naked as a Jay Bird driving on the wrong side of the highway with MO. State Troopers, Sheriff, and city PD in hot pursuit. His does manage to finely crash and is arrested. The guy states he was "under the influence". Really, who would of thought. Now when you "Fly over" the Heartland don't look down, nothing to see here. I love this place, you just can't make this stuff up.

While very impressive at first glance the longer you look at the details the more you start to see. Both the truck and the Charger are well thought out and all of the little details start to appear the longer you look at them. The small little dents and dings on the Charger and even where someone wiped the "dust" off of the drivers Side Window. I enjoy looking at all of the details you put into this, just amazing.

Very cool looking build. I have used NASCAR Chassis under some builds and it works out perfect. For very little money you get a great Chassis and Engine plus Suspension.
-
Very interesting and the Chassis and Body look well laid out. Are you using a Corvair engine for power ??
-
I also remember reading the article about the building of the 1:1 Sedan, and agree this is sort of a Why Didn't They do that. I like how you got the roof blended into the body and the doors look perfectly proportioned.
-
Glad to see you're back after this build. The front end is a vast improvement but the Long Roof is what I'm really interested in. Is that all scratch built or did you use a roof section from another model ? I have a built up that I got as a door prize a couple of years ago and have always wanted to do something with it, just couldn't figure out what that would be though. Thank you for the idea of making it a Wagon of some kind.

Makes you really wonder How, What and Where these models have been. -
How important are panel lines to you?
espo replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is an interesting subject since it involves a very highly visible aspect of any model. I will look at the Tamiya tool. In the past I have used both the blade method and also use an inexpensive tool that looks very much like something used by Dentists. I think I got them at HL. They are offered in a couple of shapes and are very sharp and work well on even small areas like a Grill. I used them to open the optional Grill in the '37 Ford Pick Up. -
I liked the music. But that car would be embarrassing to drive.

Chevy xtreme 454SS
espo replied to charger74's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
The reason I noticed was that I did a '57 Step side last year and adapted the inter Chassis from the SS454 under the Step Side. The wheel base matched ?? and only a little trimming was needed in the bed area. Again, very nice looking truck. -
So over the weekend someone posts on Social Media that their going to shoot up a local High School today because of people being bullied or something. Well my hats off to the local PD since they let everyone know of their presences on Campus and I just got an update on my phone that they have tracked down the girl who posted the threat. Turns out she just didn't want to go to School today. You just can't fix stupid.

John Force crashes happen d in AZ today.Bad Omen
espo replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Glad he's ok. That looks like a very bad blow up. I saw his daughters crash on TV and now I understand she's ok also and that's good. I think Big Bad John will know when to hang it up, I just hope its before something very bad happens to him. -
I used to always change my own Oil and Filter until I put a pencil to it and found that the Dealer will do it for not much more than what it cost me for the products alone. Last summer the wife got on another one of her economy kicks and I was back under the cars again doing the service. Next time they're due I show her the discount coupons from the Service Department. So I go down to the Dealer to get the Oil & Filter done and smell the new cars while I'm waiting. I went to pay the bill and the Service Writer is giving me grief because I had something other than an OEM Manufactures Oil Filter on the car. They have sold me two new Jeeps and a new Charger, they have done the lions share of the service on our three cars and Water Pumps and such. I agree with you I really don't appreciate some Wet Nose Kid telling me how to take care of my rolling stock.

You know if you think about it, she still is very pretty at 56 and you have to remember she's having a very bad day. If something like this happened to you or me no one would ever know, but because she had a highly visible career everyone want to here the "Dirt" about their lives.

Did anyone happen to take any pictures to share ??

I think if you ask ten people what type or brand of Primer to use you would get 12 to 15 answers. One thing I would suggest during your sanding and priming of the body, take a very small strip of tape and cover the emblems and lettering until you have gotten all of the other body issues straightened out. Only after all of that would I remove the masking tape for the very last light primer coat. Many builders here seem to prefer Automotive or inexpensive primers, and if that works for you then do that. I prefer to spend a little more money and use either Tamiya primers or Mr. Surfacer primer since it doesn't seem to "bury" the details when priming. I would use very light coats of Gray primer while working on the body since the contrast makes it easier to see the imperfections you are working on. When you have the body as smooth as you want it then paint your last coat with White primer. The lighter shade of primer seems to make most lighter colors that much brighter than if you used a Grey primer.

Excellent conversion. I like how you got the paint details correct around the grill and other touches. The interior looks just like the real truck. -

Very well done. That would really make that S10 an Extreme truck. It looks like you also used the SS454 exhaust also. -
'68 Shortbox Chevy pickup.
espo replied to Can-Con's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Turned out beautifully. I mentioned during your build that I had a friend years ago with this exact same truck and even the colors. This couldn't be any realistic looking if you had it in your driveway. -

Nice looking little Short Box. Looks like you might have put larger rear tires on it also. -

You might want to also look at the May issue of Car Craft magazine. Inside of the back cover is a picture of this truck on the starting line at a Drag Strip. There're some differences in the lettering than the picture of the truck in it's current state. This would be common on any Race Car. The picture shows a right rear quarter view of the truck and shoes the Stu Wilson Ford sponsorship on the right rear quarter panel. -
You're off to a great start with this build. Those northern Michigan winters are rough on old cars. Hope to revisit your Grand Travers Bay area again soon, beautiful country up there.

Extremely nice Semi Custom. The paint is super smooth and the interior looks great.
