I remember reading in one of the enthusiast magazines about a big stash of these engines being offered by the French Army like a War Surplus Sale or something. As I recall H & H Flatheads was going to get some to rework and offer for sale. I don't know if that ever happened as I have never seen them offered, but that was part of the information in the article. One of the reasons for the additional engine weight was supposed to be because of the different alloy makeup of the engine blocks and that would make since with the extreme longevity of the engines in sever service.

I like the Shinny paint idea better anyway. Just mentioned the Oxide Primer if that was what you were thinking. White would be a little different from what you usually see on a Roadster, but that's a good idea to make it standout. A Pearl White would seem almost Kustom. White, just like Black comes in many different shades so the opportunity to make your build standout are very interesting. Without getting carried away just a little hint of color that matches the interior color in some way can also give it a different appearance.

Are thinking Shinny or Primer or Distressed ? This week end I picked up a Tamiya Oxide Red Primer that I'm thinking for a future build. I had never seen it before and the can has all of the Tamiya markings but the only place you will see their name is in small letters giving their name as the distributer and no paint number so this may be something new in their line. If you should go any type of a Primer this might be a thought.

Great looking bed. -
Have to ask about the source of the louvered hood and the Carson style top ?
-
Cool idea. I'd like to see that.

Beautiful well detailed build. You really captured the current styling trend.

This should make a great looking Roadster as you have described. Very good combination of parts for the engine. Just a thought since you're still in the mock up stage having to do with the seats. Being as you've channeled the body this limits the interior space. The seats as mocked up look like the sides would hit someone about mid chest if you were driving. You may want to consider removing or reducing the seat tracks to get them down inside a little bit. I like the Salt Flat wheels and tires. Have you thought about colors yet or is it to soon.

This could be interesting. As homely looking as the Scion XB may be it still isn't as bad looking as the Cube. Let the hate mail begin, but anything you do to either of these cars would be an improvement. What all do you have in mind for your build ?

Beautiful paint and interior. Very accurate looking build. I personally do not care for the whole Donk thing but that's just me and it doesn't take anything away from your build.

Your Kustom is off to a great start so far. What other body modifications are you thinking and the Interior ?

The kit included some flairs for the rear quarter panels and I used those. I think the hood just has a hole in it and the body is sprayed White. I do like the Purple Haze theme it fits well with the time.

The guy we're using for our Hot Water Heaters the last couple of times is super fast to get use back up and running the same day I call so I can't complain there. He also works part time at one of the local colleges that teaches many different building skills and he has to keep abreast of all the latest regulations from the Federal and State level. He explained that some of the newer efficiency regulations also shorten the tanks life span. Part of what happens in our tanks are they fill up with the minerals in the water. That is why he recommends draining the tanks every six months with the idea that it will flush out the minerals. When the poor guy was carting away the old Water Heater he almost couldn't drag it up the sloop from the lower part of the house because it weighed so much and the wheels on his dolly were very deformed from the weight. I still think the biggest part of the problem is the water that is available in this part of the world.

With my personal experience with Water Heaters since moving back to the Mid-West is that they just don't live past 5 or 6 years. I lived in California for over 30 years and NEVER bought a new Water Heater. Moved to the Kansas City Metro area and bought a 2 or 3 year old home. Bought my first Water Heater within a year. Built a new home in 2000 with duel 40 gal. Water Heaters. Both were replaced one after the other at years 5 and 6. They were spewing water out the top and all over the basement floor. Luckily there is a drain there for the Water Softener and the Water Heaters. At year 10 here we go again with the Water Heaters over flowing again. I have been draining this ##### Water Heaters per the installers direction at least twice a year. Gat lots of brown water out but they still only last about 6 years tops. So this year I just got done with another round of Water Heaters at about $900.00 a pop installed. I may or may not be getting ripped off on the cost but checking around this seems to be the going rate everywhere I checked. So this year the wife and I will be celebrating Christmas with a hot shower, so it's not all bad. I think the longevity pf a Hot Water Heater has to do with the quality of your water. Kansas water is hard enough to dent your car when washing it.

Detailing over a clear coat body shell
espo replied to Funkychiken's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Are you first painting the body with Clear and then the Black color coat ? Are you using the Clear coat as a Primer ? Usually the body would be prepped and then primer applied. The primer would receive a very light sanding usually in the 1000 plus range. Then the color coat followed by the Clear Coat. -
Very nice stock build. A little extra detailing in the future would really make this a standout. I built one of these when the kit was first issued. Went with the Drag Race parts and opened up the rear wheel wells. After seeing this I think I may just dig it out of the Old Model Boxes in the basement and give it a do over.

Very impressive paint job. The Roof really gives this build the Kustom look. What was the source of the Roof or was this a combination of parts ?? Great engine room detailing.

Great actor and singer. After watching him play the Gomer Pyle character and then the USMC goof off you would never suspect the man could sing the way he could. He had a good "run" and he and his talent will be missed.

Worked in "Management" for many years until I just had had enough and took a step back in the last 10 years of work. Just got tired of Running A Day Care Center for all of the Prima donnas I had to supervise.

Silver vinyl paint suggestion?
espo replied to Mike Chernecki's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Tamiya offers a couple of possibilities. AS-12 Bare-Metal Silver in their Military paint line and TS-17 Gloss Aluminum might work with a light dusting of flat clear. -
Datsun pickup
espo replied to skid896's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Your color choice looks more like what you would have seen on the street. The dented roof, that could often happen if used as an Off Roader. Nice build and the body problems don't really take away from the overall look.
