Round 2 February 2018 Product Spotlight
espo replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This is going to be an expensive quarter for me. Despite what others my feel I'll be getting the Edsel, I still have one of the original issues but I like how they redo these. For builders who like the Continental kits this will offer a bonus. The Fairlane kit was very nice when it came out and I'll have to do another one. The El Camino is a given for me I envision more than one of these. The Pontiac is the same thing, got to have a couple. This Jeepster is something I might not think of normally but this is something I'd like to try. Like I said a very expensive quarter ahead. -
Ladies and Gentlemen: My dream daily driver: C7 Corvette (+Added Video)

Wow, if you feel you had better skills ten years ago I'd like to see some of those builds. This Corvette looks fantastic. -
You faced quite a few problems with this build. The finished Model looks well worth the effort as it turned out perfect. I like your Jeep pick-up in the background.
-
Very clean redo. I like your color choice. Like you I have a few original Jo Hans in the stash and your giving me ideas to build one.
-
I followed your build on this and have seen all of the problems you had to overcome. This is just outstanding in everyway.
-
Outstanding build. With the photography it looks as if you could get in and drive away.

Welcome back to the hobby. Your going to enjoy it now even more than before. From the looks of your model you haven't lost any skills. I never owned a TR but I had friends that owned them and they would always take me for a ride and see if the could scare the you know what out of me. These were remarkable performers and was like driving a two seat Go Cart.
-
Looks good so far. Are you going to use Slicks on the front like your mock up ?? I like the looks of your red pick up in the background. The grill almost looks like a Chrysler product.
-
Looks very nice and I like your color choices. You have the Vette brakes and they should be adaptable, but if they become to much trouble you might consider the using the Pegasus Disc Brake parts.

BB Chevy Engine Question

Another consideration would be something like the old Paxton Super Charger. Pro Charger would be a more current Blower setup but shares most of the technology of the Paxton. These are Blow Thru setups with nothing more than a "Hat" on top of the Carb., for Hood clearance, belt driven and the Blower is self mounts much like a big air conditioning pump. -
`Polished Plastic ; Please Share'

I have refurbished two old kits in this fashion and both turned out great. One kit was the Revell '64 GTO in red plastic. The other was an old AMT '65 El Camino in yellow. In addition to the excellent Meguire products you have already used another step I took was with a polish they offer for removing scratches in the plastic clear instrument cover on your dash board. Then a coat of Wax and the finish was very close to many painted bodies. -
Beautiful looking build, very clean detailing on the trim.
-
I like the idea of using the Slant Six.
-
Thank you for the information. I have used their products also. Their Elephant Hide decals work perfect for '57 Chevrolet Bel Air interiors.

What happened to automotive "journalism", rant ahead
espo replied to Aaronw's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Just finished the latest issue of Motor Trend, the self appointed knower of all things automotive. Toward the back of the magazine they talk about the latest "long term test cars" that they are abusing. One of the "editors" writes about the dismal gas mileage compared to what Mazda lists as its gas mileage. He mentions how hard he had tried to even get close to Mazda's stated mileage, then starts discussing taking corners and on & off ramps to the freeway at near the engines RED LINE. This guy is an idiot and should not be allowed to operate a motor vehicle and Mazda would do well to take their car back. This is the type of Automotive Journalism that helps you with your purchase of a new car ?? I find it harder and harder to take these editors seriously. Tell me the difference between this ZERO and the kid with a 4" tail pipe sticking out of the back of his Honda. -
How do you touch up chrome parts?

That's an interesting product. How does the thickness compare to Bare-Metal Foil ?? -

Looks great. I like how you detailed this build. Did the camper come with it or is this something you added ?? -
Your few changes really make a big difference in the appearance. You mention changing the wheels and tires, do you have any way to get Pegasus products ?? They offer several different wheel designs and stand alone disc brake sets. The colors you used to detail the undercarriage look great.
-
Very nice looking build. This is a great kit and lends its self to many possibilities.
-
I don't remember this kit at all. I would be far more interested in building one now then when the real Brat was on the road. The real car had a somewhat limited following and as I recall didn't sell all that well. This kit would offer so many possibilities to todays modelers. Lets hope Round 2 reissues this, I would buy one at this time.

No, what I was referring to was High octanes mention of Play Boy Magazine, and others, with the staple placement. Trying for a little play on words is all. -
Glad to here your mother is improving. She sounds like a very independent soul. Good that you were there at the right time.
-
Very nice looking Camaro. I like the interior, what did you use for the Hounds Tooth inserts on the seats ??
-
You have done an excellent job with your conversion. You might want to consider using this as a master and make resin copies.

There has been a competition between manufactures for bragging rights since the wheel was invented. If Chevrolet is "top dog" today you know Ford is going to have something better tomorrow. As this saga continuous every now and again something useful trickles down as something we, the unwashed masses can actually use.
