  1. I built the racer kit for a friend a few years ago. He owned a Volvo wagon at the time. I used seats from the old AMT '57 Ford for the four buckets and created smooth floor boards and a dash, left hand drive and used the race car instruments. He wanted a black car with tinted windows and it turned out real nice. I wish I had taken pictures of it back then. This is a really great kit that I would do again given the chance.
  2. Very clean looking build. It's always nice to see a stock build. You mentioned the license plates were a first for you. There should be a more local decal supplier that my have plate decals to use if you want. If not there is a company called Goffer here that offers European plates. They may be listed in the After Market section on this site.
  3. That Mod Top really catches your eye when you look at this build. The engine compartment is outstanding. I like how you worked the top trim into the interior.
  4. Great looking wood graining.
  5. The way you slice and dice the body you make it look easy. A thought on the over all length. The front end seems long since the Comet is a much larger car to begin with. Do you intend to go that way or are you thinking about shortening the front end ?
  6. I'm very impressed with your Dog Sled. I had not seen that Resin body before, looks like your in for a good time with this.
  7. My personal opinion is that Photobucket has done something illegal with the whole photo thing. Maybe someone here has a better knowledge of the legality of it all and I would be interested in hearing their views. My thought is that since you have an agreement on the personal photo thing and then Photobucket wants to change how they do business. I can understand going from that point forward charging a user an annual fee, but I don't think it is legal or ethical to make it retroactive to the photos from before they changed how they do business. Anyone else share my opinion ?
  8. Great looking build and I really like how you did the Wood.
  9. Great looking Duster. I agree with the others, this is a good color for this car. These cars were a great value deal when they were new. I like your Service Station, lots of detail.
  10. Very nice looking Super Bee. I never knew of the Chalkboard Contact Paper, sound interesting.
  11. Great looking build so far, and YES please sand the finish before using any clear coat. First let me say I'm impressed by the neatness of your garage. After looking at the pictures of your paint job I wonder just how warm the air temperature was when you painted ? Did you warm the paint can at all before spraying ? How far away from the model were you when spraying ? All of these things can create the paint finish in the photos. On the sanding you might start with something in the 800 range. Just like on a 1:1 paint job it is a good idea to rinse the sand paper often and let the sand paper do the work and don't use much pressure. You want to get to the point where the paint finish starts to level and the finish becomes smooth. Since you are basically scratching the paint it will be flat looking. Then you could move onto the 1200 grit that you have and again sand until the paint starts to get a little sheen to it. For myself I usually get into the 3200 range before I start thinking about a clear coat. Not knowing the availability of sand paper to you I would suggest checking with an automotive parts store for the very fine sand paper or get some 5mm by 5mm sanding pads as the work the best. A well stocked model shop should have a collection of sanding pads. Hope this will help you with your paint job.
  12. While this kit might be considered by some as being very primitive by todays standards, with the modifications you have done and shown here this can be made into a really great looking build.
  13. I have always glued the wheels in a fixed position. Never heard of any problems about stationary wheels and tires in a judging situation. My thought besides model safety is that if the wheels can turn they can also wobble around and the toe in and out and even the camber could be off and that would only look worse.
  14. Mine were fine and everything seems to be there. I would contact Revell and notify them of your problem. They have always been very good about correcting this sort of thing. They need to know the coding from your boxes as this my help them trace when the production took place to see if there is a problem in their production systems.
  15. I'm really more of an American five spoke man my self. I like Cragars on a cruiser or else a MoPar since they just always looks right on those. There is a lot to be said for the Pontiac 8 lugs on a high output car with a 4-speed.
  16. I built an AMT '65 El Camino many years ago. It is still on the shelf on display. This was the one issued in yellow plastic and it has a cab high shell that is kitted to look like an aluminum shell rather than a fiberglass type.
  17. I'll have to get a couple of these. I have built the Ventura and really enjoyed how those turned out. Ya the white wall thing really started in late '61 in the after market tires and the '62 models started to offer a narrower white wall tires and there started to be some of the black sidewall showing between the wheel and the white wall. It seemed that every year the white wall would get narrower and narrower until around '66 when they became a white stripe. With the arrival of the 70 series tires around '67 they really got skinny and red stripes and Good Year Blue Streaks started to become more popular. That is when the raised white letter tire became the fashion statement on anything that was considered a performance car especially when the 60 series tires came out.
  18. That looks like a very nice kit. I have always thought Jaguars were handsome looking cars.
  19. I happen to like Mr. Lutz and respect his wisdom I think people should pay more attention to his insight as to the operation of big automobile companies. More than a few people have questioned why he didn't do more to improve the different companies when he was there. If you listen to what he is saying you start to realize the politics that goes on in the automotive business and I believe most large companies. Listening to how he describes how and why things and product came about you realize all to often the "leaders" of a company are only worried about their bonus and not the over all health of the company. Mr. Lutz is a very wise person on business in general and the car business in particular. The fact that someone has worked for several different companies in the same industry does not always mean there is something wrong with the individual but more that they did what the were allowed to do and often leave out of sheer frustration because they in fact often know a better way but they get passed over because they will not "play the game" that the people at the top are doing to only enrich themselves and not the company, this is very short sighted on the companies part but that does seem to be how the American auto manufactures have done business for decades and they still are trying to figure out why so many other off shore manufactures are doing so well in the market place. As for an electric car I'm no fan and just how are the states going to tax us to pay for the road repairs. Sometimes people forget that the burning of fuels to create electricity also create more pollution than the automobile it's self. The only way it could really improve is if we use Solar or Wind.
  20. That looks like a copy of the old AMT kit.
  21. Outstanding build. The colors and shading really look great.
  22. Great looking Torino and the Maverick also. This is how a majority of them looked.
  23. That is a beautiful showroom stock type build. The vinyl roof and interior look perfect. After seeing so many of these as Police Cars or Taxis it's nice to see a top of the line model.
  24. I'm extremely sorry to hear about the loss of your child. I can't even fathom what that would be like for anybody. My wife and I have no children together but I have two sons by my first marriage. We got involved in bicycling shortly after we got married. We were living in Sacramento Ca. and my job at a local Chevrolet dealer demanded long hours and a constantly changing schedule. After we married my wife went back to school at U.C. Sacramento to get her degree. This gave us a few mornings a week together to ride the bike trail that runs along the Sacramento river. The trail goes from Folsom Lake all the way to Old Sac. We would usually get to ride about 20 to 30 miles and then get some breakfast together before I went to work and she went to classes. We both staid pretty slim then. I'm retired now and I don't golf so maybe this is the time to get the bike out., of course we may be getting a little snow in the next month or so. No more excuses I'm doing this.
  25. I'm 6'2'' and have been around 225 to 235 lbs. most of my adult life. As I got older and less physical I was getting over 250 lbs. I'm now at 285 lbs. and look pregnant as I carry all my weight around the middle. Your mention of bicycling reminds me of something I used to enjoy. I still have a Schwinn Moab hanging in the garage. Maybe I should get my fat @‌$$ out there and ride. Thanks for the idea.
