Scale I Build

  1. Here's the AMT 1967 Chevrolet Impala SS427. It's done in Tamiya TS-87 Titanium Gold and cleared with Tamiya TS-13. I used Evergreen .010 x .030 styrene strips to trim in the vinyl top, and just used Apple Barrel Black craft paint airbrushed from a distance to get a bit of texture before moving in closer for the final cover coat. The interior is a mixture of craft paints as well, and so is the engine. I wasn't too keen on the tires from the kit, so I used the extra set from the AMT '68 Camaro Z28 kit. The trim is all Bare Metal Foil, and I added valve stems, door locks, and ignition wires for extra details. This seems like one of AMT's nicer kits, and it was a really fun build. Thanks for looking!
  2. Hey guys, it’s been along time since i just built a model, i was into it heavy when i was younger, but haven’t built anything in years so I’m jumping back in, trying to keep the build simple but I’ve changed up a few things the kit came with a straight axle setup it was a weird traverse spring setup and i wanted to run a parallel spring set up, so i made some mount/shackles/springs and a tube axle Slapped it all in the chassis and painted it i started to assemble the motor and wiring it up, only real mods i made on the motor are the headers, they are the kit headers but with the square collectors cut off and the end filed into single pipes to look like short zoom or style headers I also included a picture on how the cars gonna sit, I radiused the wheel wells, the kit had marks on the inside that they suggest to cut to, which i did but in my opinion opens the wheel well up to much , but i think it will turn out ok
  3. Happy friday,,lookin at the leaves changing colors in my back yard,,and I see Mr Woodchuck crawling out from under my tool shed in back yard,,Im thinkin,,,pest control company named "Fir Fighters" ,,if they had a drag race car ,,this would be it. Its the AMT 66 Chevy Nova PS kit. Cool kit,,nice tires,,tubbed chassis,,wheelie bars,,no roll bar though,,I had to make one from the leftovers bx. Also replaced stock seat w/race seat. And added the rear trunk deck wing. {all cars should have a wing on them} Also opened up wheel wells to view rims+tires better. Sprayed rattlecan testors purplelicious quikdry,,hand bottle painted rest of it. Kit went together well,,and looks decent on the shelf,,guess thats all I can ask for! Enjoy everybodys work here! Build on!
  4. G'morn,,hope your summer has been a good one. Ive been visiting Hobby Lobby these days,,every other week they a 40% off on kits. So,,for 13$ you can get quite a few cool kits,,maybe not the latest releases but still some fun kits to do. And here is the "Ol Pro" Nova everyone has seen for many years,,a cool kit,,aside from the separate front fenders that have to attached before painting{really?} But the motor and the rest of the features that come in the kit are great,,the decal sheet has many product brands to choose from,,very nice. I did the 70's version,,"jacked,,Stacked,,shackled up rear" Some basic wiring ect,,pretty much what I do to all my builds,,not a contest car,,just a nice one for the shelf! Rattle can sprayed hardware store paint,,testors bottle paint for everything else. Enjoy whatever you may have on the build bench! Cheers! SS
  5. Greetings from Mtr Cty,, a recent 10$ find at a swap meet,,AMT's 55' Chevy Cameo. Such a beautiful body design,,and trim ect. Added a few "improvised" { AKA "Scratchbuilt"} bits,,rims,,headrests,,tires. Although the width of the top of the bed//front is wider than the cab rear. Not sure about the tooling on that one. Still a fun +simple kit to do. Sprayed w/Testors Quickdry laq,,,Burnt orange. Just a cruiser w/the 265 stock mtr,,nothin major. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program,,Cheers!
  6. Hi All. New member and new to posting. As you will see as I post more pictures of the models that I have built during the Pandemic, I like all kinds of car models but I definitely lean more to vintage hot rods and race cars. But, since I'm cheap, I concentrate on what I can build with the models and parts that I already have from when I was a kid. This van started out as an AMT Rescue Van that I had previously built as a hippie van (anyone remember the van craze from the '70s?). And, since I also had a built German tank model, what would make more since than to build a post-apocalypse, junk-yard built, zombie hunting van/machine/half-track? All of the components came from my parts stash, plus a little styrene and weathering and then we're ready to hit the road. Enjoy.
  7. Hello All, Here are some renderings of the next resin kit I'm building. If I get 10 pre orders, I'll have this ready by this summer. chevy-026 by dakota_in_the_sky, on Flickr chevy-028 by dakota_in_the_sky, on Flickr chevy-029 by dakota_in_the_sky, on Flickr
  8. A friend got it for me as a Christmas present. Finally got around to building it. The kit started out pretty nice, but ended up being frustrating to build. The fit of certain key pieces is horrible. The cab fit doesn't fit quite right to the chassis. The fit of the bed of the truck, though, is the worst. It does not go together right at all. There's also a huge gap in the bed. The plastic for the windshield and rear window don't fit quite right either. It took a lot to get it looking just this good. 9. This is the new Revell Del Ray kit. It's not as good as I remember the previous kit being. There's a few fit issues, most notably being the white walls and rims. The white walls are snapped onto the tire and then the rims placed on. The rims are wider than the white walls. Took some trimming to get them in there. Chassis fit is not that great either. 10. Well I think I am calling this one done! (Except plates) It is my second build since I was a kid. Lots of scratch building as the kit was lacking this and that! I went for the "daily driver" look. I was building this kit while also working on my 54 Chevy sedan. I enjoyed this kit as I remember the real thing everywhere when I was younger. Hope you enjoy checking it out!
  11. This is my first stock front suspension car that I’m attempting to build. I’ve had the kit for a while and decided to start on it
  12. Well, being the Chevelle guy, I had to get it. This kit is awesome! I don't think I have any complaints about the kit. It came out amazing. I just wish the sun had been out for the pictures. They don't do the paint job justice. 13. Been wanting one of these for awhile. Not bad at all. You can build it a few ways. SAM_0083 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0084 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0085 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0086 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0087 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0088 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  14. This is my first build in 15 or so years. It’s a vintage MPC Cavalier kit I scored from eBay for $13. Airbrushed in Tamiya Gloss White. I built it mostly stock but with the optional turbo kit, because I’m sure the real car needed it ? The windshield and rear window suffered from the infamous MPC “tire weld” so I installed the rear window louvres and made a new windshield from acetate sheet. I loved the bright blue plastic the kit was molded in so I left the interior bare, which is actually close to a real Cavalier interior color I found in a brochure online. The body paint is nowhere near perfect but it’s a lot better than the brushed paint jobs I did as a kid. On to the next one!
  15. What's good all, started cleaning off (dusting) shelves and cases, thought it would be a good time to share some pics of some older builds. This was the old Monogram 65' Impala kit, for the most part box stock aside from MAS steering wheel, wheels and air cleaner, tires may have been some American Satcos. The interior is detailed with flocking, BMF, engine was kit provided, wired, fuel line etc., paint and clear was Sikkens, color was a newer Chevy Blue Pearl. Kit was fun to build, went together fairly well with minimal issues. Just realized I still need to add a mirror to the driver door. ettm
  16. Completed my 1969 Chevy Nova. Was a fun and fairly relaxing build. Only issue I had what with my clear coat. For whatever reason, when Insprayed my Future Clear coat after drying for a few days it started to spider web. Any ideas as to what could have caused it?
  17. Never cared to much for the 66 from the design stand point. Saw someone else's build the other day and thought it looked OK, so I decided to get one for the collection. The model came out real well, and the car doesn't look too bad in black. I believe someone had an issue with the windshield and rear window not having much room to glue in, and that was a major issue I had as well. Over all though, it's a good kit. 18. Been waiting on this to come out for awhile. I had nothing to say but good things about the model, to start. However, when it came time to put the chassis on, there came a fit issue. It was a struggle to get it in right and the front never did line up quite right. There's a bit of a gap. I also found out that the hood is too short! It needs to be just a little bit longer to fit correctly. So I had to push it forward a bit and leave a small gap. However, it doesn't line up with the lines of the car either. You can see that in the pics. SAM_0065 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0066 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0067 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0068 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0069 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  19. Here's my finished '57 Bel Air. This is the Pro Shop kit with the PE parts. They were very nicely done.
  20. I'm on the last stages of putting together AMT's Pro Shop '57 Chevy, but I can't get the front nose to come down all the way. I've tried everything. I don't see where it is binding, and everything looks "right" except the nose. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
  21. I started this build last year and finally got motivation to post it, this one is gonna be one of the best if not the best build I’ve done so far, so I’m not going to rush it.
  22. Started some months ago,got it painted today and just letting it breathe before clear goes on. Not sure who casted this but they did a sloppy job. The tub was garbage and so was the chassis,i bought it off Ebay a year ago. Maby some left overs who went wrong? Anyway, did my best with getting the body decent, and i used the Monogram Impala Convertible chassis, firewall and tub. The tub had to be modified a bit, also got to replace the area behind the rear seats. I know the doorpanels and rear seat will not be correct, but i had no option, will use bench and correct dash. The idea is to fill in the rear seat, and the use seat pattern decals for front and rear, this will hide the inserted chrome "thing" in the rear seat. Have not decided but i guess it will end up with steelies in body color, hopefully anyone makes nice dogdish caps for this era chevy. The engine will be an 454 or 427 and maby an mystery motor air cleaner from Scenes Unlimited. Ok,here are some pictures of paint. Dash and low cowl hood. Thanks for looking and comments/critique are welcome.
  23. Hello everyone. Well this isn't really on the work bench yet as my plans are to enter in the model car show in February. But, I do need some help. This wheel be my first time lowering a model car and I would like to keep the realism of it if possible. The rear end I have figured out. The front suspension is another story. A-arm is mounted to the frame and there isn't a lot of room to hack off the spindle. I was thinking of sawing off the A-arm to bring it up some but there ain't a lot of room to do that. So any suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
  24. So I got an order in for a customer to do a build on their race car so I’m going all out on this one, I’ve been working non stop for the past few days and this is what I have so far
  25. Here is my 70 SS Chevelle, removed the roof an put Cutlass Convertible on! Used Woopie kat decals
