MrBuick Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I've apparently developed a habit of working on about 4 builds at a time. I'll do some work on one, then move to another, then work my way around and back to the original. I'm really trying to take my time and be more tedious with paint and detailing, so I think that's why I developed the habit. For instance, I'll shoot primer on a body for one build, and while I'm waiting on it to dry or in between color sanding coats, I'll assemble and engine or chassis for another kit, or start prepping a body, or sometimes just inventory parts and start writing down ideas/plans for a future build.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 At least 3 or 4 spread out over several benches at one time currently, another 60 or so in progress on the 'working' shelves, probably about 15 or so of those that come out to play fairly regularly. Sometimes I'll only take one out of 'resting' mode to make a notation to do something differently, add a page of research notes, put some newly scrounged part in the box, or to do a major bit of cut-'n-paste so I CAN see what else is going to be needed.
JTalmage Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I hate working on any more than 1 at a time because I go a.d.d. and don't finish anything. So I force myself to stick with 1 build on the bench at a time and I finish them so much quicker. Although right now I'm breaking my own rules and building 3 at once... truck, trailer, racecar.
Bob Ellis Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 10-20 builds at once. Sometimes it is months or years before any one gets finished.
Snake45 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Sadly, dozens. I have the attention span of a gnat. I could have been the poster child for ADD if they'd had that when I was a kid.Hey, let's ride bikes!
Deathgoblin Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 1 at a time. Any more and I start screwing things up. I do that enough anyway.
JTalmage Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I did the math, and with the amount of kits I have yet to build (new not including rebuilders) if I build 1 a month, it would take me 15 years or just over to finish all of them. That's depressing.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Just about any one I get my hands on gets started in some form or another. It gets pretty bad, admittedly. I bombed about eight together in the last couple months, and one was even shiny.
unclescott58 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Too many. Some kits get built very quickly. Others many take years. Other follow a theme, or maybe share the same paint, so they then get worked on. There are times when I've opened up a box, and found that I was closer to finishing a kit than I thought. Paint one or two pieces, and finish. After years! So, I really can't say how many I work on at any one time.
gluebomb Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I am one of those that have 18 or so going at once and I wonder why I never get anything done.Plus I also have horrible time management skills.
Lizard Racing Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I try to keep it to one at a time, although I recently had 3 at once. Any more and nothing gets completed. But this is a hobby (for fun), not an occupation (for work). There are no production quotas. If you enjoy having 10 going at once, go for it.
Jon Haigwood Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Like to keep it to 2 or 3 but at this time I have 4 on the bench and for some crazy reason I decided to build about a dozen Mopar big block engines. Two completely for two of my projects and the rest will be just main assembly in various stages of completion and painted depending on the build plans.
Nacho Z Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Put me in the "one at a time" category. I think it has as much to do with bench space and organization as anything. I have a certain place for the tools that I am currently using during a build. Same with paints. Scratch building materials have their place on the bench. Reference material, instructions, so forth go in a section of the work bench. I don't like having to move things to make room for other things. Once a model is done I will put everything back where it goes, clean the bench and maybe check supplies to see if I need to get more. Out comes the next model and I'll start pulling the paints, etc that I need for it. And the process repeats itself.
Jantrix Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) According to my spreadsheet - 6. Might be five soon though. 72 Charger Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 2 at the moment. About 20 in the to finish pile .
Belugawrx Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 All of them,... I've got 4 on the go at the moment,..while paint dries, I go to the next one,... It seems a shame to waste bench time, watching glue and paint dry
Oldmodelmaker Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Even as I have just gotten back into modeling, I have 3. One waiting to rubbed out and the body finished, one in progress and one I just started the engine on. So I'm assuming that will be how it goes from here on.
Eshaver Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Because so much of my work is Diorama related . the diorama comes first, then the small accessories to place in or outside . Then if my work area allows it , maybe a needed car .
Dave Van Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I have near 100 unfinished projects.....on the desk right now 3. adhd ......
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 On occasion I have tried working on 2 or 3 at a time, but it doesn't work for me.In order to keep my juices flowing, I have to finish something occasionally. If I were working on several projects at the same time, it may take several months or more for me to finish one.For me that's just too long.I would promptly lose interest in all of them & the next thing you know I'd be sitting in the Lazy Boy with my feet up watching Netflix! One at a time for me.
