Hobby Lobby

Recommended Posts

Went to Hobby Lobby today. First time in months. Same pitiful batch of models I've seen there in the last couple of years so nothing has changed there. Only a small rack of Testors paints which were mostly bottles and some odd colors of spray.

The interesting thing I noticed was the sign on the door requiring all customers to wear masks which I did but I'd say half the customers weren't. There were only about 10 of us but why have a sign?

Only 10 customers?  I live in a fairly small city and the store is always pretty slammed.  Anyway, The mask thing does drivei me crazy too.  Several store's I have gone have a sign on the door "Masks Required" and the majority of people don't have one on. Was vaccinated and still wear one everywhere I go.

Hit the closest Hobby Lobby today.  All the discounted Testors paint is gone.  No new kits.  Picked up another '50 Chevy truck, "Union 76."  The basic kit is good, and that version has some useful extras for any service truck plus a great decal sheet.

LEGAL CYA.....anyone says anything HL comes back 'We had a sign'. Masks are done in WV.....for a few weeks now. Was at a huge car show in KY....none there either.

A couple of weeks ago I bought 7 cans of Testors spray at the $1.57 price.  They wouldn't let me put them in my basket.  An employee had to walk them to the front of the store.  "Company policy".

It's like that up here as well too. Too many graffiti artists running amok in the stores I guess....

They don't have anything in a spray can I am interested in anyway, except maybe Dullcote. I am not really a fan of the other Testors enamels.

My local Michael’s has that locked rack. Pain in the tail, takes forever to actually get an employee to open it up and bring the can up to the register.. irony? That’s just the Testors rack.. go an aisle over and the big Rustoleum cans are out in the open!

I have never worn a mask in HL (nor anyplace else)

Yea, HL used to have a great supply of kits but has been slacking lately. I am thinking of writing them and telling them how disappointed I am and wish they would carry more or rotate more often.

Was there a few days ago and picked up paint (no escort to door) must be a California thing. I also grabbed a 64 Belvedere which looks to be a really nice kit.

Maybe because they can easily be pocketed.... but then again, the Krylon hobby/craft paint cans are the same size and out in the open.

When I first saw the locked case when I moved here, I thought it might be a local ordinance or something. Then the local HL opened with no cases!

And odd that some HLs have it but others don’t!

When I went to Hobby Lobby the Testors rack was almost empty with bottles and the can section wasn’t much better. I bought 4 cans of flat for 62 cents each. Clearance isle was filled with stuff uyou can use in models. I wore a mask anyway and there was no sign. I am vaccinated..

I bought 10 cans at $1.57 without and intervention....no one even blinked. Maybe a area that has issues and or laws about spray cans and 'tagging' is different.

The two HLs close to me tape the caps down. But we can buy paint without a chaperone! The Lowe's by the house has paint sprayed all over the paint rack and even the floor. It's fun to see the "additions" every time I'm in there.

"Company policy" my ***. I have a big mouth (ask my wife and my co-workers LOL!) and I will not hesitate to give them a piece of my mind. I'm 56 years old and I DO NOT need a chaperone; and yes, I am going to use a basket for my purchases.

Now Walmart self check-out, they will flag an employee of any spray paints being sold. That's not an issue since you have to be 18 to purchase spray paint.

Because HL discontinued their 40% off coupons, I've stopped shopping there.  Their selection of kits including cars, aircraft, armor just sucks. Less and less as time goes on.  I used to use the coupon for supplies, paint etc but since there's no discount I can buy the stuff for the same price or cheaper elsewhere.

HL is turning into nothing but a freaking gift store, they need to change their name to Knick Knack Lobby.
