Dragonhawk1066 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 AMT's 1969 Oldsmobile W-30 442 is finished. The paint is Decoart Dazzling Metallics craft paint that was thinned with plain blue automotive windshield washer fluid and sprayed through my airbrush. I used Decoart Gloss Varnish for the clear coat, also thinned with windshield washer fluid and airbrushed on. The interior was left in Stynylrez black primer with Decoart Satin Varnish brushed on, and some of the seat was coated with pledge/future for contrast. I added plug wires, valve stems, door locks and heater hoses for more detail, added a touch of weathering to the chassis, and used BMF for the trim is BMF. This is a pretty nice kit even though the engine/trans/driveshaft/rear end final fitting fought me a bit, and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for looking!!
Hard_2_Handle_454 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Just finished one I was gonna post today. But, now, that you've posted this, I'll wait a few days. Nice work
doorsovdoon Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 wow, now I really like that! I love the colour, great dashboard detail too. The first kit I ever built was the '69 442, can't remember who by, it was a 2in1 I think by Jo-Han. Great looking build, man, very nice.
espo Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Beautiful looking Olds. I like the unusual color and great finish. Clean looking trim and the dash looks good also. Just the right stance.
NOBLNG Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) Wow! For a cheap paint job (no offence intended), that sure looks fantastic! ? Great job on the whole car. Edited October 9, 2020 by NOBLNG
Plowboy Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Nice looking Olds Craig! Excellent work on the dash detail! The woodgrain is very well done!

The paint runs around $2.19 and the clear about $1.99, and with how much I used I could probably do 5 cars with the paint and 8-10 with the clear. 3 hours ago, Plowboy said: Nice looking Olds Craig! Quiet Eric Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Great build, I'm working on one of these myself. Pretty nice kit.

It came in very handy for me when I raided this kit for parts for my Johan '68 build. I really should get another '69 to build so the '68 has a companion. I like your build Craig, although I will admit that I'm having a little bit of a hard time getting used to the color. Steve
Steve H Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Very nice build Craig. Excellent finish and details. Cheers, Steve
TooOld Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Boy that's a sharp lookin' 442 , beautiful work !!

Yeah, it's not exactly a factory offered color, lol. I was looking through my colors and that one just jumped out at me. My parents had a plain '70 Cutlass in either a purple or dark burgundy that was the first car I ever remembered riding in as a youngster, so this color kind of reminds me of that.
Deuces ll Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Yep! What they^^^^^all said.... I think Dr. Olds would have been proud of this one..... ??

Well, if you know anything about me, you'll know that I love weird colors! And hey, that's part of the fun of building. Push the envelope a little! After your above post, I got to looking at the colors available on the '70 Olds. I was surprised to see that you didn't miss a color called "Regency Rose" by much at all! I had no idea this color was available. It wasn't available in '69, but I have to tell you, If I ever build a '70 Olds, this color will be right up there at the top for consideration. I suppose that I should apologize and thank you for opening my eyes. We all can learn something new from every post. Steve
ATHU Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Great build. Nice color choice and that dash is beautifully detailed!!

Steve Steve, all of your builds are top notch and you use great looking colors on them. Thank you for the color chart and info, I tried looking at some online and couldn't get a good gauge on the actual colors. I never would have thought I was close to a factory color, I like that one in the pic. Either the Burgundy Mist or Grenadier Red look like they could be the color of my parents' car, at least based on my failing memory. I'll have to see if my mom still has any old pics of it hanging around anywhere next time I see her. You have nothing to apologize for based on your thoughts of the color, I took no offense and actually chuckled as I can see how it would be a strange color to get used to. Thanks again for the positive comments on my build, your opinion is always welcomed.
