I've been getting sometimes several emails daily from Finescale Modelers (Kalmbach) trying to "get me back" and buy their useless (to me) magazine.  I finally added them to my BLOCKED email senders list...  Anyone else had that problem too...???

Seems to be their M.O. I remember the same thing years ago when I was a subscriber. Constant e-mails wanting me to renew, buy more magazines, "specials" for my birthday, etc. I am pretty sure that I was able to change my e-mail preferences and turn most or all of them off by unsubscribing.

They've sent me their magazine for 2 months in a row. Maybe I had some issues left on my SAM subscription. If not, they're wasting their time if they think I'm interested.

I was briefly a subscriber to SA a few years ago. Up until last month, had almost never received an email from either SA or Finescale. Now I'm getting them almost daily.

I’m guessing 95% or more of the SA to FSM “converts” will not renew.  The 1st issue I received had almost zilch about car models.  As for the barrage of emails, they are pretty annoying.

I've been a FSM subscribed for about 30 years and the latest issue (just got it the other day) actually has few automotive articles.

I'm one of the many who had a long standing subscription to Scale Auto. In my case I had just renewed my subscription just before they shut down the magazine and I'm now getting their substitute. While I have gained a little information on paint treatments I'm not going to renew  with no more  automotive based information than they are suppling. I was able to pickup the new Model Cars Magazine and plan to subscribe in hopes that it will stay viable in the future.  I moved all of their contacts to Spam when they pulled the plug on the Scale Auto Mag.

I was pretty sure that it wasn't just me who has been getting all their annoying emails.  While I can appreciate the different detailing techniques by military & ship builders, FSM does nothing for me as a car modeler.

While the last issue I received had an article on how to open the trunk of a car...... I did that back in the 90's when Monogram put out the '59 Impala kit.  It might be OK for beginner modelers but not for experienced modelers who have been building for 20 or 30 years or longer.

I'm getting two each of those emails--one from Scale Auto and one from Finescale.  Same content, different 'From:'...I have a rule to tag those as 'hobby' in gmail, so they really aren't a bother..

I'm not getting barraged.  And I subscribed to both. And you guys need to give fsm time to start incorporating more content.  Work was already being done on issues for next year when  SA was dropped.  You really need to learn patience.

The issue following the  one you described has more automotive-theme articles.  This is the most automotive articles in a single issue I have seen ever!  Like others mentioned in the Scale Auto Dead thread, Kalmbach will likely start to include more and more automotive articles.  No, it will never be 100% automotive, but it is good to see the change.

I did get a Fine Scale renewal notice by mail prior to getting my first issue! And a few since.

I do get at least a daily email from Kalmbach for books, etc.  Right now I’m not signing up for FSM. I do understand it will take time today weave in some auto content, so I’ll see how that goes.

I also have been bombarded by their E-mails.

I decided to subscribe since they were suppose to include model car articles in FSM. I just got the  Jan 2012 issue. Marcos Cruz has an article in it. How to: Two tone paint job and build of a AAR Cuda. FSM is going to have to include a lot more car articles if they want me to re-new next year.

There are actually two. One is a truck. If you guys think that there are going to be half a dozen auto articles per issue, it aint happening. At best maybe 2 or 3. It's a modeling magazine, not a CAR modeling magazine.

......and that's why, as a CAR MODELER I'm NOT interested in FSM?

I had the same problem when Kalmbach acquired Scale Auto 20 years ago. First they whitewashed the magazine to look like all their other publications. Then they started lowering the content and adding a lot more ads. Then they cut the amount of pages in each issue and dropped the amount of issues per year from 12 to 8 to 6.

Finally they raised the subscription rate. All within the first couple of years of their take-over.

I never subscribed again.

SA was actually originally a 6 issue per year magazine.  When they bought it and sister magazine Car Modeler, after about a year they dropped  Car Modeler as a bi monthly  and made it a annual,  then dropped it and made SA monthly.  I think they realized making it monthly  was going to be difficult.  Its all sad, and the way things go when something big interferes with something  more home grown.  I think perhaps the reason Gary sold in the first place was to focus on the then fledgling and now unfortunately not heard from  Galaxie Unlimited.

I ordered SA mag before they shut down. I received three issues of SA, then I got three issues of Finescale, which I didn’t even look at, and went right in the trash.

Once again you pay for this, but they give you that!

I am getting bombed with emails for Christmas sales and subscription and after reading thru two magazines I sent them to the spam section. I have no interest in FSM.

You are right about the truck.  Just not interested in building killing machines.
