Steve H Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Hi all, I was inspired by the thread in the “general automotive” section of this forum. Kurt W. has a thread about sacrilege and blasphemy to Mercedes Benz cars that might offend purists. Here’s mine! This is a about a 10-12 year old build. I started with the Tamiya Mercedes 500sl kit. The chassis is a modified Monogram pro stock Camaro piece. The motor is the 492 Ford from the Tbird pro stock kits. The Mercedes interior was modified to fit the chassis, motor is wired and plumbed, posable steering. Wheels and tires from the Hays Tbird kit, parts box blower and manifold. Sorry, don’t remember all the details of the build. I do remember that I test fit for the entire build, and somehow in final assembly the front end is about 2 scale inches higher than I wanted. I think it’s a front windshield issue, but I left it alone... Hope you enjoy it Cheers, Steve I wish I polished my paint jobs back then.... 6
alan barton Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 That should be offensive enough for the purists! Me, I really enjoy the conservative approach to a radical project. Your engine plumbing is very impressive! Cheers Alan
Spottedlaurel Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Love it! By coincidence, I was pondering whether a Monogram pro-street/stock chassis would fit under the Tamiya Mercedes S600, once I've used its V12 engine for another project.
Mattilacken Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Beautiful work! As said before plumbing looks very good!
TransAmMike Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 That is sooooo cool, and wow the engine. Beautiful work Steve?

I can’t remember how much modification was needed on the chassis, but I don’t recall it being too dramatic. I look forward to seeing that build when you get to it. All the best for 2021 Cheers, Steve

Hello Anton, that is one of my most detailed motors, I have done a handful more since then that are similar, but I don’t always do the full wire and plumbing. 9 hours ago, TransAmMike said: That is sooooo cool, and wow the engine. Beautiful work Steve? Hi Mike, Thanks for the compliment sir. This was inspired by a pro street Mercedes from the “Tubs” issue of SAE waayyyyyy back, issue #75 if I recall. I thought the same thing when I saw that build, super cool. It’s fun to do something different once in a while... 4 hours ago, PappyD340 said: SWEET, well done! Hello Larry !! Always nice to hear from you, I appreciate your feedback. Cheers, Steve
grodudulle77 Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 Awesome build, i really like the color !! ??
89AKurt Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Thank you for letting me know you posted this! I thought it was really well done, and it's different. Doing a project like this is constant trial and error fitment. Have to ask, isn't it something like a 700SL now? ?
doorsovdoon Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 I bet that thing would be a monster to drive! Looks amazing!

Hi Kurt, thanks for having a look. Usually I’m pretty thorough with the test fitting, something slipped through the cracks on this one, but still happy with it overall. 700SL sounds about right!! Keep up the fantastic work on your Subaru! Cheers, Steve

jaftygas Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I can’t believe you pulled that off that well. That thing looks awesome! It was meant to be.
ea0863 Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Totally love it! I believe this car has named itself "Blasphemy"

Hello Joe! Thanks for the kind words. I believe that pretty much everything looks better with tubs, even classy Mercedes! On 8/8/2023 at 11:06 PM, ea0863 said: Totally love it! Dennis Lacy Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 This is friggin’ awesome, Steve! Builds like this are what I love about models. Pro Street EVERYTHING! ? 1
redscampi Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 First time seeing this old build. This is, I'm sure, what Mercedes intended all along. Beautiful workmanship and awesome concept!
Zippi Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 This thread is almost 3 years old but any good looking Pro Street is worth taking another look at. Very different but looks pretty kewl.
spencer1984 Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Glad this got bumped, I missed it before. Awesome job, that engine detail is fantastic!
