Tiger89 Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 This is the third and final AMT '68 Cougar that I'll do. I'm saving one mint kit with the great box art that will stay unbuilt. I got this from a Facebook group, kept the paint since it looks very close to a factory color, and used a lot of parts from the early 90s '69 Cougar 428 CJ kit. Instead of factory stock this time, I decided on an 80s or 90s street machine. Traction bars came in a set of 8 from Shapeways, and decals from Keith Marks. The wheels with spinners came from my parts box, but unsure which kit. I've now completed one '67 Cougar, three '68s, two funny cars with a third in process, several 69s, and a have '71 planned.
Snake45 Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Very, VERY nice--I like this a lot! I'm hoping to get at least one '68 Cougar done this year myself--thanks for the inspiration! Well done and model on!
NOBLNG Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 I agree, very nice!! I think you’ve got the wrong cat for a username.?
espo Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Great looking build. These were good looking cars when new. The color and finish look just like the original. I like how you detailed the engine also.
Tiger89 Posted January 8, 2021 Author Posted January 8, 2021 Thanks, guys. On the other AMT '67-'68s I'd done, I used the front chassis sections and engine bays from either Revell's '68 Mustang or AMT's '67 Mustang/GT-350. I didn't bother this time, just using the '69 chassis with its flaws. Actually, when the Cougar came out in late '66, this chassis was better than most of the promo-style kits that were offered.
Rockford Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 My first American car here in the UK was a 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 with a 351 Windsor in it, absolutely wonderful car, I have a very soft spot for any Cougar and this is a great model. Well done! Marvellous to see.
Tiger89 Posted January 8, 2021 Author Posted January 8, 2021 Stephen, I'd love to do a '70, especially the convertible, but those MPC kits are even more rare and expensive than the '67-'68s. 1/18 and 1/64-scale die casts will have to do for that year. I did a convertible conversion on AMT's '69, came out just ok, and may attempt another one to do the James Bond car in the future.
Spottedlaurel Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Those late '60s Cougars are great-looking cars, your rendition looks excellent. The Cougar is familiar to those of us in the UK of a certain age from the Matchbox diecasts.
Tiger89 Posted January 8, 2021 Author Posted January 8, 2021 Yes, Nigel, I have one of those little green Matchbox Cougars. The Custom Cougar was one of the first 16 Hot Wheels to be released in '68.
doorsovdoon Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Beautiful. That's one very sharp looking Cougar. Those wheels and tyres give it the right look.
vamach1 Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Very nice with all the extra effort you did. I will have to find one of those 69 Cougar kits to see if the chassis with work with the horrible chassis in the 71/73 MPC/AMT Mustangs kits.
Tiger89 Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 Hmm, Rex, maybe. Or you can wait 'till Revell comes out with their '71 Mustang, whenever that will be. Some guys have used the MPC '71-'73 Cougar chassis and engine bay, but I think the wheelbase is slightly longer than the Mustangs.
slusher Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Great looking Cougar and very. Cleanly built...
TooOld Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Beautifully done ! Love this look with the wheel and tire swap .
charlie8575 Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 That came out nicely. I'd like a 1967-'68 Cougar, real and/or model. Great-looking cars. Charlie Larkin
Bills72sj Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Well done. All the Cougars are classy cars.
