After going through the obscure kits thread, I am truly amazed at what subjects the model companies actually thought would sell, and were willing to spend money on engineering and tooling. Gives me hope that a lot of the cars mentioned here might actually have a chance!

Or not.

Depending on how misguided they are.

I mean really, a trumpet model kit? A shoe car? Or a model of a Cup O' Noodles?

I just don't get it.

Ha, yes, I seen those Cup Noodle builds and although pretty darn cool and unusual I did think "why?" Lol. If someone thought Cup Noodle kits and trumpets will sell, which they seem to be, there's definitely hope for pretty much every kit suggested here. Fingers crossed for at least one or two in this thread!

Does anyone remember the Bill Thomas Chetah? Built in 1964, The answer to the Shelby Cobra. 15 survived to this day. Built with a Chevy 427c.i. engine, this was the most badass looking auto of it’s day.

The Cheetah is pretty rare.  I think I've only ever seen one.  I doubt if many model builders under 60 even know what it is or would be inclined to build it.  Us old guys probably would though!

We don’t get it because we aren’t Japanese.. different market. Crazy stuff sells there that we will never really understand

I cant believe there still isn't a 1/25 kit of the Checker Marathon cab. The closest I've ever seen is a Rambler Classic by Jo-Han. I'm certain the traditional yellow cab would be a massive seller but instead we get a re-box of the '70 Galaxie, not that I'm complaining about that but, it seems to be a glaring hole in the model car market that's been wide open for decades!

Anybody say Black Beauty from Green Hornet? We’ve got zero even resin in 1/25. And there’s a 65-6 Imperial to start with. Haven’t waded thru here lately so may have missed it.
Id take a recent GT350R or GT500 curbside with better headlights, CTS-V wagon, 49 Caddy 61, Buick Y-Job.
There are Sushi/Sashimi models too. Can’t find pic but there were 4 kits. Fujimi maybe? Big manufacturer

Strombecker had a 1/32 slot car.

I can confirm. I had one. Came in a set with a Ferrari Dino.

I think there was a resin Black Beauty available a long time ago. IIRC, it was rare even when in production. Perhaps it was Monsters in Motion, or I think somebody named Al Martino who made it? I seem to remember somebody (maybe Mr. Martino) doing a big scale version as well.

The AMT '64-'66 Imperial last was issued either as the Western Pickup or as the car from the old show "The Hero". It's possible that Round 2 has that tool. If they did, and I was in charge at Round 2, I would look at revising the body & other parts to Green Hornet (show) spec, and I would also give a look at doing the car from the movie they did some time back. Those subjects are right up Round 2's alley. Also, Polar Lights had the license for the Black Beauty some time ago, releasing a 1/32 scale kit and slot car.

I think the Black Beauty in any form, rather than a stock Imperial, would give a better return on any revisions they would have to make.

Not a bad idea; from the Hero kit Round2 could use the chassis, engine, firewall, windshield, wheel backs and hood - the body and grille had a lot of Western doodads (or geegaws ) engraved into it, and the interior's a two-door setup (although the dash and steering wheel might be re-usable). So new body/bumpers, interior bucket/seats, rear glass, and however many Green Hornet devices they'd care to add.

Ok it's 1/32 but it's there.

And this resin:

Neither kit very good. 1/32 is a no.
T&T was not a great rep, and the ones I’ve seen weren’t very well cast. Wavy panel lines on a black flat sided car not going to work. Thank you though.
Apache wheels available, chassis available.
Nothing very acceptable. With movie, it’d sell, Seth Rogen is funny. Curbside fine like Batmobile.
I asked Don Holthaus as a joke, he did demo derby imperial. Phone went dead silent. Lol.

I agree. Looking for precedent? A British cab was made into a kit. Why not Checker? If they choose to model it and put the Continental engine in it, there are plenty of sources for Chevy engines to do post 64-65 versions. If they do the Chevy version, the Heller kit of the Fergie tractor has the Continental engine.

In general, I'd like to see more passenger cars made that aren't an SS or the giant cubic inch engines or bucket seats. Y'know, regular family cars. Not always the top of the line ones.

Me too, and the plain jane models outsold the SS and fancy ones as well in the 1:1 world. And 4 door cars often outsold the 2 door versions. But back in the day, the major customers of kits were young boys and that's why AMT, MPC, Jo-Han and others made the sportier versions as kits. Even the Jo-Han '70 AMC Hornet kit came with dual exhaust! Now really, how many Hornets actually were equipped that way?
