Brianl
Always wanted a D Type. Closest I could get was the Revell XKSS which is an very cool kit itself but I really wanted that D Type so I added the fin and changed the screen to sort of copy the Ecure Ecossie Number 4 car. It was a long nose but I'm happy with something close. Still have the tail lights and mirror to sort. Brian

papajohn97
Beautiful job Brian! I have a 1/32 slot version of this same car and wish there was a 1/24 -1/25 kit for this car that you built. Despite the shorter nose, your build looks “right” to my eyes. With this year’s releases of the new tooled XKE kits, I’m hoping Revell has plans to issue a lightweight XKE racing coupe. It probably won’t happen but I also believe a new tooled D would sell like hot cakes.

MrObsessive
Now that is SUPER EXCELLENT! 👍 I did the same thing over 20 years ago as I copied a car I saw in a then current issue of Road and Track. I got tired of waiting for a kit which could have been based on that ROG Jag XKSS. Your headrest/fin looks a bit better than mine, but then no two cars were the same back when Jag was making these. 1 hour ago, papajohn97 said: With this year’s releases of the new tooled XKE kits, I’m hoping Revell has plans to issue a lightweight XKE racing coupe. The D-Type has been forever ignored, except for the high end kit makers and those can suck the life out of your wallet real fast.
Phildaupho
Very well done conversion of the XKSS to D-Type
Dave B
That's a nice build Brian, I also cannot understand why Revell did not release a D type especially with all the options available and the fact the real car was commonly raced in the USA. I'll just have to make do with my Lindberg and Merit versions, basic though they are. Dave B

1959scudetto
Fantastic model, Brian (I was thinking about doing the same with my XKSS model for years)
Brianl
Thanks for the generous comments on my build. Much appreciated. A D Type kit is long overdue. There are a few cars that I just can't work out why they have not been modelled. Obviously the D Type, how about a Cobra Daytona, one of the most iconic sports cars to ever come out of the States. The current Indy cars would look awesome on the shelf as would the current Funny cars. Personally I would love a Stratos Zero although I'm not talking about personal preferences but kits I think are commercially marketable. Just look at the response to Mark ! Escorts and Current Mustang releases got. I have a Cheater body in resin but again it deserves a decent kit too. When you look at some of the weird stuff that Fujimi etc put out for their domestic market you have to think these cars might not be so hard to sell?? Enough complaining... Have a good one Brian
David G.
I remember back many years ago when I was a small child there was a Tootsietoy version of this car or, a similar one. It was one of my favorites. Yours is an excellent rendition, thanks for sharing it and bringing back some fond memories. David G.

Venom
Wow, very nice and cleanly done!.. Nicely detailed engine... When it comes to race cars this is my favorite era by far... Did you make the windshield yourself?
Brianl
Yep the windshield started life as the front cover of the 2014 financial report for the local council!! I used the XKSS screen as a template and cut it down from there. Thanks for the interest Brian

absmiami
Yes. Very nice. And by the way. The Ecurie squad raced a short nose too …
absmiami
And they are not cheap - but Profil24’s D type kits are really, really, really good …
