Snake45 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 Bought this very cleanly built JoHan '64 Dodge at this month's local toy show for $25 from a fellow modeler. Much too nice to call it a “glue bomb”--it was actually nicer than most of my rescues after I've rescued them—but I thought it could still stand a little minor Snake-Fu. The chrome spokes of the wheels had to be painted, of course. The comically jacked rear end could have been left alone as a period-correct '70s street bomber, but I decided to see if I could get it down to a more timeless (and sensible) stance. The rear tires/wheels were much too wide to fit into the fenderwells, so I replaced them with wheels and tires I took off a recently rescued glue bomb Cobra. Wheel spokes were painted with Folk Art acrylic Brushed Dark Gray Metallic from Walmart. The rear tires got the lettering detailed with Folk Art acrylic flat white and the point of a toothpick, one of my best tire-lettering attempts ever. Sanded all the tire treads, of course. Wasn't much to do elsewhere. I painted the backup lights with acrylic Pearl White, touched up the grille a little, then went around and cleaned up a few slight overages of the foil with a new Xacto blade (it wasn't bad, but now it's just better). And that was pretty much it. Only had about 4-6 hours total in the whole thing, including finding the new wheels & tires. I didn't even have to take it apart. Back on the shelf! Thanks for looking and, as always, comments welcome. 1
SfanGoch Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 (edited) Good work, Rich. Dropping the rear improves the look. Edited October 15, 2021 by SfanGoch
1972coronet Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Nice save ! It seems like it was built in the early-mid 80's , judging by the stance , Bare Metal Foil , paint , and painted lettering on the tyres .
Can-Con Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 (edited) Looks much better like that Snake. BTW, IF you want to get a pair of rear wheels that match the front, look in the MPC/AMT '69 Charger Daytona. They put 2 slightly different styles of wheel in some of the kits but I don't know as to which kit has which wheels. Possibly the older kits with the red car have one design and the gold car kits have the other but?? Edited October 16, 2021 by Can-Con

Possibly the older kits with the red car have one design and the gold car kits have the other but?? According to Mark, the super-deep Americans originally on the rear were from the AMT '69 Daytona. They're now destined to be used on a '66 Nova pro street. The slight mismatch between the wheels on this one doesn't bother me, all things considered. Thanks for the kind words!
Steve H Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Snake, you sir are the king of rescues. Every time I see one of your rescues I think, hmmmmm, I should rebuild one of my old glue bombs. Although it is fun to look back and realize that I actually am getting a bit better!! Nice work. Cheers, Steve
FLHCAHZ Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 The stance is a huge improvement! Really nice work making a cool model better.
NOBLNG Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Nice! I agree, it looks a lot better with the new stance.?
David G. Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Nicely Done! Boy, it did have quite a rake, didn't it? David G.

happy grumpy Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 A nice recovery, like others have said, it looks much better this way. I sure miss those jo han kits
spencer1984 Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 Excellent work as usual, I like your more refined look.
ewetwo Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Really nice improvement Snake. Looks much better lowered. I thought I commented on this before. Was it originally in a different post?
ybsluos Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Very nice Richard. Much more tasteful. I really enjoy adding my own touches to a built up or restoring a bomb.- Mark
yellowsportwagon Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 Thank you for losing the Stinkbug stance. That’s just slightly less stupid looking than a squatted pickup
