carbuilder1950 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) So in the 2nd set of pics, the sleeper side of the car is revealed.. The interior came from another kit and was somewhat modified to fit, and something more than stock was slid under the hood, with a shortened 1969 Camaro chassis used, to hold it all together. I added some more pics from the 1st post, because they show off my curb feelers I thought was so cool, and better pics of my hand made period "air conditioner." And I hope you like the dust on the roof. I forgot to wipe all the lint off before the pics were taken ?. Edited October 29, 2021 by carbuilder1950 1
bbowser Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Outstanding conversion! The period AC unit is a nice touch. I've never had operating doors have as nice shut lines as these, well done. 1
happy grumpy Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 A superb piece of dedication and mastery. The paint job fits so well with this car. It is the perfect sleeper. Very well done. 1
Zippi Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Nice Dave. You just don't see many stock Henry J's that often. What size shoehorn did it take to get that engine in there ?. Very well done. 1

Hoffman Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 That is amazing! Especially considering what the base kit is like. Fantastic! ? 1
Claude Thibodeau Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Hi David! Another great color combo, with perfect execution. The engine bay is surgically clean. Bravo! CT
TransAmMike Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Now there's a cool little car. Beautiful paint David?
Oldcarfan27 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 This is great! I gotta know where the interior is from? I know the body is Revell. Wheels are 53 Ford Victoria and chassis is.... Camaro?
stitchdup Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Nice work, it looks like it all came in the same kit. I'd love to see more pics of the heb in the the background of your first set of pics
Bainford Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 An incredible transformation, and top notch work. The little Henry J makes for a dandy sleeper. Very cool!
papajohn97 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Fabulous job converting this crappy Revell gasser kit into a nearly stock J. The continental kit really ties the overall look together, nice job! My dad bought a $99 “Allstate” from a used car lot with I was a pre-schooler, many fond memories of riding around town in it (before seatbelts), always standing on the back seat floor and leaning on the front seat between my parents to be able to see out of it! I remember it being a very bare-bones car (no radio, no heater, JC Whitney seat covers, slow as hell).

Wheels are 53 Ford Victoria and chassis is.... Camaro? Hi there Patrick @Oldcarfan27 Nice to hear from you! Good eye there Patrick. Lots of nice parts came from the '53 Ford, including some much modified interior pieces including the floor pan, and narrowed front and real seats, and much modified door panels and rear armrest panels, and also the continental kit, with a little modification to fit properly, and look right And yes, the chassis is a shortened piece from a '69 Camaro. Exhaust had to be shortened too, as well as the drive shaft. Thanks for asking - Dave.
espo Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Great looking engineering to make this into an almost stocker. The addition of the Desert Cooler and the curb feelers really add to the look. The colors play well with each other and an addon Continental Kit looks good. I remember a guy who had an old beat up Allstate that could only be started by parking it at the top of a hill and letting it roll down and pop the clutch in second. The starter and the battery were both shot and the engine didn't have much compression anyway. One way to tell an Allstate sold by Sears and a regular Henry J was that the Allstate didn't have a trunk lid asa the rear deck was solid below the rear window.
Lunajammer Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Lots to love here. Excellent subject and craftsmanship.

Thank you @espo I didn't know about the Allstate. Thank you for the info?.
Phildaupho Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 Extremely well built. I recently read an article about the Henry J so really nice to see such a cool model car.
