I had two small diecast cars (maybe matchbox?) as a kid that I enjoyed the paint off of......... one was a Porsche 959, the other a Ferrari 250 Testarossa! Is that Hasegawa kit any good? Always loved those........

That Hasegawa 250 Testa Rossa is an absolutely wonderful kit. Mine built up with the optional PE wire wheels and a detail set from (I think) KA Models...

Yup, I think most of us have the same issue!

My collection of Porsche kits and CHev 88-98 truck kits is almost as expansive as your Ferrari kits.

And I've never proclaimed to be a Ferrari guy, but I seem to have collected a lot of them too.

I need to get building and make a dent in the stash!

I’m afflicted too. Sell off dupes, and completionist stuff. Keep stuff you love.
I couldn’t build for 7-8y time because shaky from chemo. Numb extremities too. Had transplant but still numb and unmotivated.

Build when you can. You can always track down some stuff. 4-cam, NART, resins no.

“Buildable” resins important. MFH killer, but FPP models easier to not bog down. If choice I guess.

You guys have great stashes. Duesies, Porsches, Ferraris all here. Carpe diem before  ye get done unto.

I think I either need to start thinning the herd or ramp up my building. This is just the Ferraris

Ramp up the building is the answer!?

Yeah, and then it's someone else's problem to clear it out.

After helping clear out two collections, I think I am going to start thinning out my mess.

And then their children hate them, and they are still dead......

But, I understand the thoughts behind the stash, and the motivations behind our collective compulsions. I just have problems overcoming them.

Why, I am starting the build more kits, and sell more kits.

My wife and daughter said they wouldn't sell any.

"Give this one to my brother."

"I want that one."

"OK, give him this one."

"I want that one too."

"Well, you're going to have to give him some."

Phffff.....that's nuthin. My collection.raiders-of-the-lost-ark-warehouse.jpg.9fea4f91a9f889d574acf3126430bac1.jpg

(Ok, not quite, lol). But I think I do have about half of the Round2 reissued Scout models stashed at different places. Seems like I can't walk past one for sale.

Nice collections.

I recall when I rediscovered kits and then shows. Fun. And insane. Could buy everything I ever wanted. Intent to build.
Gets ahead fast. Collections. Then associated cars. Then…. Completionists are screwed. ??

I keep track of my stuff by databasing it through Scalemates. My amassed mess crossed over a number in the beginning of the 4 digits and for some reason that plucked a string in my hoar...err collecting and I've recently been selling off duplicates, never builds, and so on. Probably close to 100 kits in the past 3 months to the point even my wife noticed there are holes emerging in the shelving.

You know it's bad when rather than looking for a 40% off sale at HL you're checking Home Depot and U-Haul for sales on their large storage boxes.

I think that buying kits is a distinct hobby from building them. Most of us are much better at one than the other.

After a stint in the buying hobby, I realized there were two separate categories of kits, want to builds, and like to builds. Like to build kits are nice, but not something whose completion will make me extraordinarily happy. That made the buy/skip decision a lot easier. I also realized that kits are going to be available for a long time to come, as some of these mega-collections hit the market. So, if I change my mind later, it's not likely going to be a big deal. That slowed my buying a lot. And, truth be told, I'm much happier for it. Right now, I can concentrate on building and be satisfied.

A little further down this road I added FOMO (fear of missing out) buys. I try to stick to the want to builds, tho occasionally, I'll make a FOMO buy. My biggest FOMO buy is a Scott Brodeen Nautilus kit. This is also very high in my want to build list, and yes, I'm very glad I got it. My wife and I talked that over for several days before getting it.

I've also trended towards buying a lot of the offerings from Alpha Models as they really float my goat in terms of subject matter of interest.  But they are of course a little on the pricey side, so the other positive of thinning out the herd is those proceeds nicely offset the acquisition of those resin multimedia pieces.  Plus, those Alpha boxes take up a heck of a lot less space ??

Just made an updated inventory of my stash again, and thought I'd bump this thread.  I know my stash is relatively small compared to some (many?) of y'all, but I got a little anxious when I saw the spreadsheet had 64 entries.  ?

The good news is I was actually able to remove some old ones from the list, as I've managed to build maybe 5 or 6 in the last year, which is more than I've completed in a long time.
