I never noticed the difference in length between Bonnies and Catalinas back in the day, when I'd see several '65-'66s in 3D every day, and also saw a lot of pictures of them. I never knew about the length difference until fairly recently--last decade or two.

I like the look of the model so much that if I were to build a real one, I'd lengthen it. Do you happen to know if it's a screwbottom-derived chassis, or a newer tool style with separate details? (Mine is on the way, not here yet)

Snake45 Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I've never liked the roof on that kit, either. Pretty much nobody has ever gotten that roof right, not AMT, not Hasegawa, not Revell. From what I've seen, AMT did tweak that roof a bit for 1966 and the '66 Impala and Wildcat tops are the least wrong ones, IMHO. I've never seen the MPC '66 Bonneville HT kit (though I have a convertible), so can't comment on that one. sadly.

A little off-topic, but years ago (2011 maybe) I saw a sectioned mid-'50s Caddy with that roof chopped and grafted on, in bare steel, out in Az. It's my understanding the thing went to Oz or NZ, but it was a stunning piece of work. You wouldn't think those parts could all be melded together into a coherent whole, but whoever did it had a real feel for design and form and line. Pretty sure I have photos somewhere...

You speak of all this as if it will EVER actually be finished. And I don't think you have it in you to build a curbside.

The plastic is unusually hard, almost brittle, so it's not surprising. Despite that it was very well packed, with various sets of components bagged and extra bubble wrap and newspaper inside the outer box, not just put into a padded envelope like a kit I got last week. If I can neatly repair the damage and find a set of approprate arch flares I'll build it as some sort of '90s Fatboy, if not then maybe it'll end up as a mudplugger with chunky wheels and tyres from something else. 1:25 AMT/Ertl Dodge Viper kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Another cheap one, maybe an engine donor for an older Mopar? 1:24 Tamiya Mercedes S600 Coupe kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr A whale of a car, and certainly plenty of plastic in the large box. 1:24 Italieri Ford Escort RS1800 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr About time I picked up one of these - Escorts were everywhere when I was growing up. I was going to make resin copies of the 70 Pontiac I recently did, they were the closest I could find to the Cutlass.

An American version sold through Chevy dealers.. the Geo Tracker! I bought this new in 1991, still have her! Four wheel drive and air conditioning too!

Ah yes, I remember seeing that one on here recently - it looks great! I'd happily have that and you clearly enjoy it havinh kept it for so long. I really like Japanese cars from this era, so well-engineered. Just about to take my '92 LS400 to work today, and the '93 Camry was recently in use for carting stuff around. The Fujimi kit includes a LHD dashboard, but getting it to be a replica of yours would be a challenge......
