This guy irked me today. Nothing too unusual though.

Seems like he's everywhere these days, always whining that he can't do this or can't do that because of some perceived unfairness or inequity, and that everything he fails at for lack of trying...or his own lazy incompetence and willful ignorance...is somebody or something else's fault.

I think that guy works in our engineering dept.

and If you're better than them at something, they won't let you do it....... I am/was a house painter (no, I don't drink....) by trade. My cousin runs a little painting business. The guys that help him aren't the greatest. When they saw that I could paint quarter-round shoe molding without getting any on the floor, they flat out refused to let me work!

It was kinda windy here last night. The local council had harris fencing on the pier to assist with cruise passengers and to stop them falling between the pier and boats. Due to the wind last night I took it upon myself to tie them down to the pier rails as the fencing was starting to get blown off the pier. Today they threatened me with fines for tampering with their property. I'll be fighting it and refusing to pay as i told them it was getting blown in the water and they did nothing about it. The way I see it my taxes paid for the fencing. They lost at least 25 panels of the fencing before i got it tied down and i saved the rest from being lost

Dontcha just love having idiots telling you what to do, and penalizing you for doing the right thing, while they demonstrate they have no clue?

I'm working on setting this to music. It deserves to be our New National Anthem.

I'm getting used to it, the last time i took on the council i saved everyone from having to buy new bins when the bin men destroyed them. I said the same thing then, my taxes paid for the bins and your guys destroyed them. why should we have to pay again? if something is already paid from my tax there is no way i'm going to pay twice.

The LED ribbon light I put in the paint booth is turning itself off.  I noticed the switch module gets a little warm.  It comes back on by itself.  Really annoying to be painting and lose half my light (still have a "regular" light).

I don’t know what the life of these is supposed to be and of course those of different brands and quality.

Are you getting paint on it? Originally I noticed I was and moved it.

It's almost new, and no overspray.  It's just cheap MADE IN CHINA stuff.

I draw plans for remodels and homes, I'm not an Architect.  Every new version of the Codes gets worse, the last round pretty much requires an Engineer for anything.  Architects need to collaborate with Engineers too.  So in my town, we are all swamped with work.  Been taking over 2 months for the Engineer to get stuff done for me.  It's been 4 months on some jobs.  Got an email today, from the guy who has been working on my projects, he left the firm to go elsewhere.  So, now it's going to blow even more now.  Apparently nobody wants to get into this profession, in this country (India is another story), compound with the fact that my area has always had a higher cost of living so the trades workforce is scarce.    Only those who have done well move here when they retire, so the demographics are more disparate than cities such as Phoenix.  Bad enough dealing with the building departments (County and City), who mandated everything be engineered, which are taking around 5 weeks to review the first round for permits (over 6 months for alternate septic system permits).  Guess I shouldn't complain, forecasts say there will be an economic crash coming soon, which will kill the housing industry.  Sorry to be dumping here, gotta get this off my chest.

Just finished mowing my lawn. Wasn't sure the mower was gonna make it (a John Deere). Never any problems before, but today it kept "hunting" and surging and acting a couple times like it wanted to cut out completely. Bad gas? I'll check the oil and spark plug and fuel filter (if it has one) later. Any other ideas?

One other idea; I had a Craftsman mower that started doing that. I backed the gas cap out about 1/2 turn and it ran like a dream.  I figured the vent was clogged.

During your spring service on your mower did you replace the fuel filter along with the air filters. The Air Filter in particular gets a lot of dust along with grass clippings and if you Deer is like the one I had you have a foam precleaner wrapped around the paper filter.  The precleaner foam can get really blocked with dust and sometimes it's worth it to just replace it instead of trying to clean it. K&N makes a spry oil that works well on the foam and most auto parts store should have it.

I had the same problem and took the mower into the repair shop.  2 days later they called me back and said the fuel line was being blocked with bugs!  So check the fuel line from the tank to the filter or carb and see if it is free flowing.

Depending on how it's been stored, there's also the possibility of water in the gas from condensation. Little tiny jets sometimes won't flow water.

It used to be a real problem with Fiats too. Imagine that. :D

Bad gas?

With how much ethanol is in it these days, it goes bad quicker. Little two strokes suffer considerably from this. It’s not a bad idea to clean out the carb and flush the tank on a mower that’s been in storage all winter.

If you have the choice locally, get "recreational gas" which is 100% gasoline, no alcohol.

Every spring, we had all kinds of problems with our lawn mower. The carb would get gummed up, and just not work right. This was usually cured with a rebuild and liberal application of cleaner. After a couple years of this, I bought a fuel shut-off valve and installed it between the gas tank and the carburetter. Now the procedure is to turn off the fuel valve, and run the engine until it stops. No more carburetter problems. Runs like a champ.

My mower had a carb problem last year, rather than mess with it I took it to a repair facility.

If the gas tank was full on the previous mower, I'd turn it on one side and dump the gas out of the tank through the fill hole, then run it until the remaining gas ran out.

I did that again with this one, turning it onto the side that was closest to the fill hole.  The guy told me that was the "wrong" side, as the carb is on that side.  But if I'd turned it the other way, not much gas would have come out as the filler would have been at the high end of the fuel tank when turned to that side.

Now it's acting up again...I think I'll blow the fuel line out and clean the carb even though I haven't turned it on its side.  I bought another carb (eight bucks for a new one online) as a backup.

By the time I need another mower, or get tired of this one, the electrics will probably be perfected.

The first mower (engine) lasted over twenty years, it outlasted several decks.  The sheet metal deck would develop a crack, I'd have my brother weld it, and it would fracture somewhere near the weld.  Last time around, I garbage picked another mower with a cast deck and swapped my engine onto it.  Problem solved.

I always, and I mean always used to put away my lawn equipment with a fuel treatment designed for an engine that will be in storage for anything over 30 days. The biggest reason is that with the reformulation of fuels and the addition of more and more Ethanol products in the fuel we buy. These additives beak down rather quickly in storge and the chemicals start to cause damage and rapid deterioration of all of the fuel systems. The fuel treatments come with a measuring cap and a chart to tell you how much to use. After adding the additive to the fuel system, you should run the engine until you are sure it has made its way into the combustion chamber before shutting off the engine. I never had any fuel related problems after going to this storage step.
