Cool. I love my Unimat.

You just have to remember not to try to take heavy cuts, and that the standard speeds are too high for most kit plastics and will melt them rather than cut.

There is a speed reducer that's nice to have. image.png.ec6bc58977d4c5a38b484064ab75a23f.png

But IIRC, just reversing the pulley on the motor so the smallest sheave drives the largest sheave on the lathe head solves the problem.

Urethane belts are a worthwhile upgrade too, almost mandatory as the black rubber originals are usually too hard to use.

Did you get the stuff that converts it to a mill as well?

yes , and I have a large steel plate to mount it all to from the unit I had 20 years ago .

Got some tire/wheel assemblies made up for overhead axle pressing. A coworker upgraded their hay wagon wheels and i got the takeoffs for free. Bought some used iron plates and started drilling. 55 pounds each. Backyard strongman DIY is fun. I'll test them out this weekend.

Another wonderful day.  It's going to be cooler which means I can go sit in a area that is quiet. I am not used to all of the ambient noise. It is a pleasure to be able to hear the water in the fountain. I is so peaceful.

As always feeling better every day.

Things have been busy as heck at my school bus company for almost the last three weeks but it's quieted down this week. Besides the school runs, there was sports charters and field trips galore. Just one more week of school and it's vacay time for me.

Well.....under contract to buy a house. 3 bedroom built in 1899. It's been renovated and has newer central AC/furnace and the hot water heater is only 4 months old. 2 car garage with tons of extra parking out back and the garage faces the parking pad not the back alley. Nice little old neighbor hood in University City (MO) and only 20 minute drive to work. If you know St. Louis county its just 3 blocks from the famous "Delmar Loop".

Welp.....not buying this house I found. Seller listed like you can move right in but after inspection they said they will not fix anything. The house would need about 10k of work and I can not do that. Oh well, I have about 2-3 weeks to find another or I'm going to have to find another apartment.

Attended the Friday Night entertainment at a local winery last night. The group played all the head rocking '70's music we all used to sing along to. Rain, and heavy down pours were all in the weather predictions for the evening. Felt a few drops toward the middle of the first set before you started to see umbrellas start to appear. The only part of the stage that wasn't covered was over the keyboarder. A lady from the audience went up on stage and sat behind him and held a large umbrella over him and the keyboard. Very few people got up and left even when the rain started getting a little heavier. All was going great until the power supply blew. The audience was still dancing and singing along so the band said they weren't going anywhere.

Got out in the woods fairly early today, hiked more than 5 miles. Feel great now.

Beautiful day but almost 90F by the time I finished. Need to take more water next time. One quart's just not enough.

Model club meeting on Saturday.  Summer meeting and only 5 guys showed up. But good guys!  So we had a great conversation and business meeting around a table while eating pizza.  Couldn't plan a better day!  ?

Did some woodworking!  I've always like butchering wood, haven't really done much, now that I'm retiring, this could keep me out of the bars.  My mechanic suggested throwing some sandbags in the back of Blue Cloud, and I just couldn't do that.  Got a 92 pound square log (yes not all logs are round).  Dovetails can be lifted out, to move them out.  I've done signs before, so I had to name the Dorky Cheapskate modification.

Good for you Bill. I haven't been able to go in the woods for the last few weeks and it really puts a damper on my sense of well being. I'm in N Florida and once the yellow flies come out I'm done for the summer. Haven't found any type of repellant that keeps them off of me. Not to mention the highs being close to 100 degrees for the past couple of weeks.

OK....so one more house to look at in south St. Louis city. This one looks very promising as it is listed by my realtor and has for sure been completely rehabbed. A little older than the other, built in 1891. Here's hoping.

Think it's safe to say I have recovered from the Amoxicillin side effects that wiped me out last month.  Yesterday got cloudy and was nice to start repairing a flagstone patio that was torn up several months ago.  Needed sand, I never bought mortar sand, always found a wash, it's grain is a little larger, and it's free (ignore the gas for the long drive).  Shoveled a short half ton this morning.

Then I went to the stone yard, and got 250 pounds (minus pallet) of flagstone.  I don't need no stinkin' gym!

I'm pleased as punch that Blue Cloud is running like a champ. ?

I had a very productive week in one shop, so I decided to take the day off.

Got to the woods early in the cool, hiked at least 4 miles.

Then went to HobbyTown on the way home, bought a couple of recent production 1/25 truck kits.

And then I stopped at a big indoor flea/antique market and found a bunch of vintage HO-scale model train kits (the ones that take effort and skill) for CHEAP.

Fixing to have a braunschweiger and Swiss sandwich on crusty rye, with big fat juicy heirloom tomato slices.

Best Saturday I've had in a long, long time.  :D

We took the Boxster to a physical hobby shop 70 miles away.

It's a unique feeling to be able to choose from a well-stocked store in 2024.

I built myself storage shelving for my eBay Store (selling first day covers to stamp collectors) from shoe racks. I bought them on eBay and beefed them up by adding bases and a stiffening bar up the back.  Then I screwed them to the wall and banded the three together. Very sturdy.  The reason I post here is that they'd be good for model car boxes, my configuration will hold 90 shoe boxes.  Total investment $124.
