  1. I recently tried to strip unprimed paint from a part and I let it soak in Super Clean for 5 days. It had no affect. I dripped some 91% alcohol on it and it will come off. When I need to strip that part I know I can put it in the alcohol.
  2. If I can turn it into something great, time will tell. I'm gonna try Scott. For years my two favorite trucks have been the 1.) Kenworth Aerodyne COE and 2.) the KW Aerodyne conventional. When this truck came out it jumped up on the list. The first time I saw one on the road it reminded me of something. It reminds me of it each time I see one on the road. What it reminds me of is going to be the basis/theme of this build. In the back of my mind I'd like a wee bit more time than til August but I need to stay off the computer and get on the workbench. I have the load this semi will be carrying that I need to build for it too. Plus I'm in the CBR. IIRC I have til November to finish the CBR so if I build steady I should be good. I need to paint outside and that is my biggest factor.
  3. Thanks Joe! If it goes according to plan it should turn into a wild ride.
  4. Thanks Jeff. I know I will have a better idea once I start to get into it. A bit before the time I'll be ready to tackle the frame stretch I'll be looking for the help. I have to start unboxing the kit yet. All I've done is open the box and poke around a bit.
  5. Wow Pierre, that was fast! Thank you very much. This will indeed help me.
  6. A car type hauler using the silver one. The red one and the frame behind it are from the Ford Car Hauler kit just for length comparison. And if anyone knows what kit the silver one is from I would be thrilled to know. I've had it for I do not know how many years. I must have been saving it for this build.
  7. I think I'd prefer to see it being built than the one doing the building Sam. This kit is daunting to me. It will be my biggest parts count kit to build and my first non Snap semi. Two things I already know I will need help with: First, I read a build review of this kit and it was recommended to find the instructions from the Revell Lonestar to at least build the engine as the Moebious ones aren't that clear. A scan of the Revell engine instructions would help me if anyone has them. Second, more than likely I will need to lengthen the frame a bit. Never done it/don't know how. Advice on when to cut it (before the frame is assembled or after), where to cut it (best location to hide the seams as I really do need to improve my bondo work) and any other tips to do it that I am more'n likely unaware of. Thanks in advance. Jim
  8. My deal for a fire engine is on hold. I did get this in the mail today so it is the kit I will be going with. I hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew. If it turns out close to my vision I will be happy. There are a few things I know I will need help and advice with along the way.
  9. Outstanding craftsmanship. Your modifications add to the look. Nice truck and I like the yellow.
  10. Thanks Sam. I've started a small collection of the 1/16s. I've got a Lindberg Bull Horn, AMT '57 Thunderbird, MPC Cobra and the Nomad. Only other one I want is the '57 Vette. I'm glad you got the one recently listed for trade. I'll find one at some point. NBD right now. I'm old so I'm thinking they may be easier to build. And they are a bigger canvas for custom paint. I can see on the box the Nomad is screaming for a custom paint job.
  11. The KW Aerodyne COE is in my top 3 all-time favorite rigs. I saw on a want ad where you mentioned you had this and, as usual, I didn't have anything remotely close to what you were looking for to offer. I'm glad to see you are going to build it and I'll be keeping an eye on your progress. The trailer looks, at least to me, to be quite a challenge unto itself.
  12. It's cool that you chose to rebuild this...again. I'll be keeping an eye on it. If you're just turning 51 you're still young yet. I'm 64 so I got ya by a few years.
  13. Just my opinion but I don't think the E-Type shown above is a good comparison to the Galaxie. The Jag, for lack of how to term it, is more of a fastback, similar to the Mustang listed above. As a "fixed head (or drop head) coupe" it looks to be in the ball park. The Barracudas are another example.
  14. The cheap/easy route is Elmer's white glue. As to epoxy yellowing, it is more than likely similar to clear coat paint. If there is a yellow tint to the mixture it will eventually yellow. No, I'm not a chemist, just thinking about the similarities.
  15. If my late entry, and my lack of a definitive rig to build, got snarled in the loophole I will withdraw from this years build-off. I have an entry in the Cannonball so I can concentrate on that. And I can build a rig without the time constraint. I wasn't prepared for this years build.
  16. I've signed up for the CBR and the BRBO so I'll be busy. Won't commit on my BOYD entry yet. I looked at that car recently and it doesn't look to need much. A bit of fabrication... and paint. I paint outside so that won't work right now.
  17. To reiterate what others have said Snake, this is a cool thread idea that you got started. I have a companion build to my Cannonball entry that I may try to finish in 2020. That would be a good thing.
  18. Thanks Scott. I had read the rules on page one and didn't see that mentioned. It does say it starts on the first so I figured I'd have to be in before then. Doesn't change my late start though .
  19. I believe the deadline to enter is fast approaching. If so, I would like to still get in please. I don't have a kit yet but I plan on either an AMT fire truck of some type or, I just traded with another member for his Moebious Lonestar. It would be one of those two. I've been talking with a member here about fire engines and on the Lonestar trade neither of us has shipped yet so I've got nothing to show. Enter late, start late, but hope to finish ON TIME.
  20. Fantastic craftsmanship which made for beautiful build! This is extremely nice looking. And your photography is up there too.
  21. Not all today but in the past week. The 1/16 Nomad came from JUNK-MAN in trade. The KW was an eBay purchase for what it would cost me to get at HL, without leaving my house. The vintage AB is another eBay purchase. It is a Paasche F (smaller version of the H). I had never seen this style color cup so I put a bid on it and won. I was hoping that it would have a #2 head/needle/nozzle as they are no longer available (it wasn't mentioned in the item description and I didn't ask ahead of time). It does have the #2 so it will spray a bit thicker material than a #1. I plan to try it on my interior painting and if it goes well, that is what I'll use it for. Sorry if I seem to gush on it, but I'm stoked about it. .
  22. I'll add my name to the list for a Mack B. The Marmon COE Brad posting looks sweet. I know quite a bit is available in resin but that adds considerably to the build cost of the finished model. Not everyone can afford them. I personally don't see a lot of the younger generation joining in the hobby. Trying to target them as your customer base is not the way I'd go if I ran a model company. I'd guess most builders today are fairly older. They are the ones who I would aim to please. Sure, there are younger modellers, IMO, the older generation is the backbone of the model company's sales.
  23. I had a great trade with Nathan, (JUNK-MAN). I recommend trading with him and I would trade with him again anytime. Thanks again Nathan!
  24. I'm very sorry to hear of your wife's passing Vince. It's never easy to have someone you love, and who was close to you, pass.My sincerest thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
  25. Thank you Snake. I may try to find an AMT one to see if I can modify it to work. Just doesn't make sense to me. I'm pretty sure you get the hard and soft tops in the Revell C3 roadster kits and I know the Revell '62 Gasser kit has a hard top as I have the kit. Why none for the C2?
