  1. Indeed, the automotive side of modelling is gradually morphing from toy to replica, catering to a much smaller but demanding group of customers. Trying to get kids involved is a total waste of recourses cuz in their mind, there is so much cooler stuff to do then static modelling
  2. Thank Tim for explaining, while knowing more or less how a model kit is created, it's always good to hear the specifics, pro's/con's and costs of going this or that route.
  3. So, It got off topic, but got a good interaction going...don't see the harm.
  4. Not Raoul, but yes.
  5. Today, I got to the stage, color coat!
  6. IIRC RC2 or whatever the name of the post Ertl company was before Round-2 rescued the assets, did something similar with the '58 Plymouth Belvedere, using a 1/18th scale diecast to tool up a 1/25th scale kit, warts and all....
  7. All true Tim, but how many man hours is spent on old school data gathering and converting that into a 3D file, printing to review, then massaging the file, and repeat, but still getting flak after release, by people who know the subject matter through and through. So indeed, as Steve said, its far easier to scan a vintage annual from the back catalog from amt and mpc and go from there, and that's the strength of Round-2 they have one a big back catalog, other manufacturers don't, and have to start from scratch. Would be nice if they could copy Jo-Han kits too, but won't hold my breath on that one, but that's good news for my wallet
  8. Indeed, but with the help of 3D scanning, it becomes a lot less "guessing/interpreting" photo's and ruler measurements (which don't capture everthing), thus you will end up with exact data of the "skin" of whatever car or truck one wishes to replicate in scale. Also with that data, ones a certain model kit is tooled, one can expand it into a series of siblings much easier just because one started with exact data and that years into the future. But, the proof of eating the pudding will be.... the upcoming Revell '71 Mustang.... PS: my favorite Colonnade sibling is the '76 Olds Cutlass Supreme coupe, Yeah...I'm somewhat the odd one out
  9. Mine didn't
  10. Saw this posted on Facebook, so….
  11. No one except the Kat's at amt know what's coming but do expect that they will try to get the most out if this tooling, cuz as everyone knows it ain't exactly cheap. so sit back relax and let the news of what's in the pipeline come to you in the next coming months, year. And even if there will be no widebody from them, who knows some aftermarket supplier will offer one....
  12. There is also someone who's doing a early '70s Pontiac GTO and when I see his files of the underbody, it's like being back at GM checking out all the details of a new model......can't believe it's more that 10 years since they shut the door for us.
  13. Not the MPC Ford Van, which is a 4x4 or better……the tool can be ran as one, it also had a side opening door with glas, so it can show off a workshop (which isn’t in the kit) and also IMHO, a van is a much better canvas for art work, therefore my choice, but it kinda depends on having a usable trailer for two bikes.
  14. one of the dirtbikes has been re-released in the past by Round2 Personally I would like to see them releasing like a dirt bike racing team set, featuring the two bikes, the MPC 4x4 Ford van as a mobile repair and towing vehicle, and a trailer to put the bikes on, only one problem I don't think they have a trailer in their backcatalog so.......nice to dream
  15. It's all about the money.
  16. If you look closely at the pictures, you will see that they are separate.
  17. IIRC All American Models ( Art Anderson) did a resin one back in the day.
  18. So, maybe from a marketing standpoint it would've been better to leave off the model year? Thoughts please! Cheers
  19. Well this is Round2, and they have a pretty good track record in investing in new footwear....
  20. Not available yet, but probably soon.
  21. Hoping for GMUD code Z71, a GMC Grille and maybe a club cab too (tho have an extra)
  22. If Ertl at the time had it in it's lineup, I'm quite convinced, that the numbers would've been pretty darn good, and if Revell didn't wipe out their Caprice, retooling for the Impala, but instead planned to have both a Caprice (tho facelifted) and Impala version from the same tool, the picture would've been complete. If only they had a crystal ball back then But did my part, writing to both to Ertl and Revell Monogram back in the '90s!
  23. Two different markets, specific for the N/A market almost always came and or come with an engine. I've read Steve G.'s comments why the no power plant, maybe this kit will be a game changer.... who knows what's heading our way in the future.
