Thanks very much for your efforts. -
Forum website has been sluggish for the last few days
TonyK replied to peteski's topic in How To Use This Board
Thank you for the time and work to fix the board. I was able to bounce around different subjects this morning with no problems. -
The dwindling wildlife at our home. We moved here a little over 20 years ago and there were frogs, newts, and snakes. I used to stand outside at dusk and watch the bats circling above catching bugs but don't see them anymore. Our neighbors on both sides of us and most houses in the neighborhood have monthly service come and spray around their houses for bugs. I do yardwork most days and am not bothered by bugs. I see them but they're supposed to be there because that's where they live and they're part of the eco system. I still hear the occasional owl at night. The latest thing that has bothered me are the squirrels. "Steve" used to come around every day but haven't seen him in a month or two. As the wife points out, they do have a life span like any other animal but I'm not seeing the usual 4 - 6 other squirrels either. The last few days I've had 1 or 2 show up and I make sure to toss out seeds for them. The birds that are always here have dwindled lately too. Maybe the hot summer weather has changed their habits but it seems odd to me. Just needed to get this off my chest.

What's with the U.S.Post office these days?
TonyK replied to styromaniac's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I've had packages from UPS handed over to USPS before. What's annoying is when you see the UPS truck come by and you hope later that day your package will show up from the mail carrier. Doesn't always happen. I still don't understand the logic with this delivery procedure. -
Jack Beckman will fill in for John Force
TonyK replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Saw this announcement earlier and I'm real happy about it. Was a Jack Beckman fan before and it will be fun to root for him filling in for one of my all time favorite drivers. -

Crazy look and well done! -
Went to the Shapeways site just to see what's going on. Took forever to load any page. Looked at some figures and each page took minutes to load.

What's with the U.S.Post office these days?
TonyK replied to styromaniac's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Had a model sent from Salvino's. USPS tracking was spot on when I would get it. There's hope. -
Interesting when that happens sometimes. You wonder if they have so much business that you don't matter to them or do they just suck as a company? It's just plain rude. Glad you got it fixed. I've always made a point to thank a good company that fixed something and tell them they'll be the first one I call if I have a problem in the future.

What did you see on the road today?
TonyK replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw a Cybertruck today and they are very ugly. Thought about grabbing my phone to take a pic but I just sat there stunned watching it drive by. -
He was great in anything he was in. And to think he was best buddies with one of my other favorites, Don Rickles.

I like to go back to my journalism expertise from my high school paper days when looking at our local newspaper. I point out headlines and news articles to my wife that are failures. I still remember how I was taught and this is from the 70's! But, like so many things today, nobody cares to do a good job and be proud of their work.

Fun and an excellent job on the models and diorama. Don't know which car I like better. Very nice!

Shelley Duvall (The Shining),has passed away.
TonyK replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The Shining was a bad movie for me too but I suppose both Shelley Duvall and Nicholson did a good job doing what was asked of them. I still think The Exorcist was the worst movie ever. The Shining was too long but these types of movies aren't for me. I find them boring. I do recall seeing Shelley Duvall in other movies where you could appreciate her character more. -
1/24 Jaguar XK120
TonyK replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
A very sharp looking model! The driver figure adds a lot to the finished look. -
I'm not very educated with the technical part of my phone but it's old so it doesn't update anymore. There's a permanent "1" displayed on the screen on the settings icon. If I try to update it attempts for awhile and then gives up. The wife and I plan to get new phones but hers is newer than mine and mine does what I need it to do so I'm in no hurry.

Tamiya 2002 WRC W/Drivers

Nice job! Yes, Tamiya models are always a joy to build. -
Way back in high school a guy had a beef tongue sandwich and we all laughed and from then on his nickname was beef tongue, of course. I had never heard or thought about it up to that point. I've seen it in the meat section at the store and it doesn't look like something I'd want to buy. You guys have educated me a bit on it but still prefer eating the usual parts I've had all these years.

Quite a story and a great tribute to him with this great looking diorama. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Read that yesterday and happy to see the progress.

When I was young, I worked with an older guy who retired and did what you mentioned with the same result. He was fit and active while working and he should've kept that up in retirement. I know I do.
