Next project on the bench. This is going to be a full custom crew cab ala the version dave kindig recently built on his tv show. My version is going to be a little more custom though as it's going to have a full size bed and the cab body is going to be from the revell bus with 3 side windows removed and one door flipped to the other side. The engine will be one of firerods resin 356 engines and i may use the fujimi 356 brakes and spare rims (my 356 kit had 2 sets of rims) and maybe a few other details if i decide against the scale production 17" 356 rims. I'm planning for this to be easily mistaken for a low stock version when its finished so there wont be chrome bumpers. For the paint I'm undecided between yellow and white pearl or the original vw show vans red, black and white but thats far down the road. I'll be using some highlight model studio pe parts on this such as the pop out windows. I'm thinking also to add a ladder and turntable to the bed just for some extra interest so it will be modified from the heller delaheye fire truck ladder but much shorter

1958 Cadillac Series 62?
stitchdup replied to iamsuperdan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The imai/amex/various other cadillac might give you a good start point. the front end is all there but the rear would need some work. If you get the convertible version you might be better off too as the hard top version has fit issues with the roof being too short. The glass is a poor fit too. This is the one i have (now stripped and dissassembled) If you look past the blanket inteior its all stock and thats the stock kit engine too. This is also lowered as far as it was possible without cutting into the chassis. The convertible and hardtop both pop up pretty often on ebay and you should find one fairly easy if you decide to use one. -

A chassis for one of the hasegawa american cars just arrived with the post, it beat the kits as they were sent with a courier so take longer. This ebay seller will get great feedback as they could have just chucked it out and said nothing as it wasn't included in the pics. brilliant service

It seems to be happening all over, the postie in the uk are wanting to strike, and the posties in finland are on strike. You'd think that since we all rely on them to deliver our internet purchases that we'd give them some support but we only really mention them when things aren't going right. Its now coming up to christmas time and my local posties will be delivering until probably 7pm on christmas eve, possibly later when they should finish hours sooner. I'll say it now, the postal service is still just as relevant now as it ever was, sure most people send more emails than letters but we buy loads online so these guys are probably doing heavier work then they used to, and for those of us in more rural areas they can be the only option for deliveries

I wouldn't mind one of them just for something different. But I'm scottish so I dont think my wallet opens that far. Like the old joke says, copper wire was invented by 2 scotsmen fighting over a penny

existential modeling
stitchdup replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm sorta a mix of all your suggestions. I've worked in a body shop when i was younger and can swap parts over but I'm not an expert by any means. Bodywork I can do but the mechanics may as well be hyroglyphics to me, though i understand the basic you'll always find bits of the mechanicals wrong but less then it used to be. I'd be more like the modern guys that have to plug in a computer to find out whats wrong, except i ask the old guys instead as they give tips computers dont and can help make the jobs simpler. And now I do the same with models on sites like this one. I'm not calling you guys old, experienced is probably a better description but it doesn't write as well, lol. When it comes to the actual building of the models sometimes I'll try to copy the pics and have a bit more detail than the previous build, but then sometimes I just want to build something custom with little detail, sort of like a way to get an idea out of my head to make way for the next idea. Also I'll sometimes go back and rebuild an older less detailed build with more detail, but i treat models like real cars, they're never really finished -
I like the replacement air cleaner Joe

The burago brand can be quite surprising sometimes, I used to have a few of the 1/18 ones (53 vette, ferarri 250gto and bugatti somethingorother) and with a very small amount of detailing you wouldn't expect them to be the value they are. I will be looking for one ofthese now as I'm not intersted in building a lambo but it would be a cool add to my vw builds. Thanks for sharing it sir

Fishing line for use as pin stripe material?
stitchdup replied to swede70's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If your on amazon look in among the nail varnish for finger line tape/pin stripe tape. Its about 2mm wide but as thin as bmf and perfectly safe for acrylic paint and clearing over and for less than £1 you get 30 rolls shipped from china with free postage somehow. If you know what colours you want I can easily send you some as i have 300 of them cos while 1 pack had free shipping, when you select 2 the shipping jumped to £15 so I bought 10 individually mainly out of annoyance. Auslowe in Australia also do pin stripes I believe -

its a pity they do that, it would be much better done properly by kit brand instead of subject matter -

So amt got the mold from frog? it's interesting how some of the older kit molds turn up in places you wouldn't expect. I know some of the frog molds went to russia. I've seen the 1/16 vauxhall wagon pop up over there sometimes but its the wrong scale for me -

Dont worry mate, we all do this sometimes -
I'm wondering if anyone has built this kit. I believe it was also released by amt in the early 70s, possibly as a prestige kit but different sites differ on that so it may not be correct. I recently won this kit and will be building it but as a kindig inspired version. If anyone has built one it would be cool to see some. I guess some tamiya versions would be cool to compare them to as well. I've never had a frog kit before so i'm looking forward to seeing what their like
