  1. That last set of pics really tells a story. Particularly the first two pictures of the undercarriage. You'd never know it was the same parts. Two things I find really interesting about this technique: a) with all the colors of craft paint available, and an infinite amount of mixing ratios, you're really only limited by your imagination. You could build hundreds of kits and each one could be unique. b) you've got maybe $6-$8 total in paint. It's just about the cheapest trick you can do in this hobby, and the effect is very dramatic. A lot of bang for the buck. Thanks again Steve. I'm sure a lot of folks are going to benefit from this. I have plans myself. Going to try it out on my current Camaro build.
  2. As we know, different cars came with different color undercarriages, whether it's body color, primer, or rust inhibitors. Would you use the same four colors mentioned above for weathering? Seems logical since the color of dirt and grime is independent of the car. And I'm just talking about average everyday weathering. Not even getting into different environments. That would open a whole new can of worms.
  3. Anybody ever tried oil paints? Just curious how those would work.
  4. That looks great! Wheels look perfect for it.
  5. Over the past two days, I got the engine, frame, and a bunch of other components in primer. I’m thinking of shooting the frame red, and the engine the same orange as the body.
  6. Thanks for taking the time to make that post Steve. Very well thought out and descriptive. That's pretty much exactly what I'm looking to achieve. One question. Do you use water to thin the paint, or some other medium? Reason I ask is that the last time I tried craft acrylics, using water seemed to "break down" the pigment. I couldn't get a decent consistency. It was either too thick to brush nicely, or way to thin, like water colors.
  7. This kit is on my to-build list. I'll go along for the ride.
  8. Those lights are killer. Engine looks great too. This is gonna be sweet!?
  9. Steve, you’ve got to stop posting pictures of real cars… And yes, just like that.?
  10. I want to start doing more weathering and detailing on the undercarriage and engine bay of my builds. I’ve done it once, but I’d like to hear what processes you guys are using. The end goal for me personally would be a used but not abused look. Not too grungy, but not brand new either. Something you’d expect to see on a nice clean older car if you looked underneath. Does that make sense? So what products are you using and how do you use them? As always, thanks for your input!?
  11. That would look pretty cool. Kind of like anodized gold.
  12. Wow! Looks terrific. Fantastic job on a rarely seen kit.
  13. Gorgeous. That color is great. Excellent job!
  14. I decided to go to Tamiya TS-98 pure orange for the body. I think it will match the decals nicely (I hope). Got the color coats finished today.
  15. Got some new decals for my 70 1/2 Camaro. All I needed were the front and rear scripts. I’m working on the orange box kit and it doesn’t have those two. These are from the full bumper kit.
  16. Opening up the battery compartment on a 70’s Vette. Now there’s some next-level detailing for ya. I love where you’re going with this thing so far, Joe. Can’t wait to see what’s next.?
  17. Looks awesome! This kit is pretty high on my most-wanted list.
  18. Thanks Carl! Just hope I can pull off a good clear coat, then this baby will start winding down.
  19. And just like that, it’s blue again!? I also shot a couple of spoons for various clear coat trials.
  20. Monogram 1/24 kits are hands down my favorite. It was the first thing I ever built and the vast majority of models I did as a kid were old Monogram kits. I haven’t built one in around ten years. But when I got back into the hobby the first time in my early 30’s, that’s what I went for. All of these (except for the ‘60 Chevy sedan delivery) were built just over 20 years ago, during my first return. The ‘60 Chevy was built around ten years ago, the second time I returned to the hobby. None of these are fantastic, but they represent where my skills were at that point in my life.
  21. Looking great so far. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
  22. Looks great! I like that color. I'm working on the same kit currently. Hope it turns out half as nice as this.
  23. Went to an antique boat and car show with my dad and a friend today. Saw these two. The mail Jeep just looks scary, and yet kinda cool. The carb setup on the Ford is actually just air intakes. It’s fuel injected. Very cleanly built car.?
  24. Sweet! Where were those when I needed them last week???
