AMT '65 Impala box art custom built with Revell kit
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thought I had a cool idea on how to use the custom 'AMT annual seats with the Revell interior by swapping out the stock front seats for the custom ones and cutting the centers from the back seat. sinking them down in a bit and just putting the rear custom seats in the recesses. After working towards this for weeks, I get almost done and find it looks horrible. The custom seats look like child car seats. I hate it. So, I'm back almost at the beginning with this and will simply use the kit interior with a complimentary paint job. So, new plan, almost the same as in the pic but with stock white seats now. -
Are you two talking about the so called "Loudness War" ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war

Turning the '62 Thunderbird into a coupe?
Can-Con replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Nothing special ,, just the body and rear glass from an old annual or promo coupe should do it. -
Yes, that would be the one. I hope Dan won't mind me posting the pic, I don't want to hi-jack his thread.

I never gave up on Cassette myself and still have most of the ones I bought back in the '80s ,, and most of them still play fine. Never could afford to get into reel to reel , that way big time stuff back then. And rare. Anyway, here's a link you may like to this little music site I ran across a couple years ago and joined. Free to join and they don't bother you with unwanted e-mails and stuff like that. This is the listing for the reel to reel section. you might be able to find something play on that sweet tape machine there. https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?format=Reel-To-Reel

1/35 Early Greyhound bus coming from Roden
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think Roden is trying to cash in on the "G.I.s coming home from WW II" angle. ? -
That's gonna be a sweet car Dan. I've built one of those and have another still in my stash. Biggest job was carefully thinning it down around the windshield and rear window so the glass would fit 1/2 decent. I also took some of the "V" from the top of the windshield. I'm pretty sure it should be a smoother curve but I could be wrong on that. I didn't open the hood on the one I built but the sheet metal of the inner panels looks more like typical GM inner fenders than the B-body engine bay. Here's a link to a '69 for sale with a three good underhood pics. https://classicautoshowplace.com/vehicles/149/1969-chrysler-300-base

The body of the BFG car had the fenders flares molded to it, [at least it looks that way compared to an accurate Vette body] I wonder if the AC car did and it's just not shown on the illustrations or if it really doesn't have the flares ,, and will the reissue have them or not?

You can make a Profit
Can-Con replied to Boss31's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I built this Plymouth specifically to sell on e-bay years ago. I kept track and know I had about 40 hours into it. Got just a couple bucks over $100 for it. That's about $2.50 an hour. NOT including kit and paint. -
I'd say that's exactly what that kit is. I had one when I was 7 or 8. I'll buy one just because of that even though the proportions are awful. I hope the clear headlight covers are in it though.

Chassis Swap for MPC ‘69 Grand Prix.
Can-Con replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well Steve, at least it's easy for you to get references when you own a 1/1. I think a lot of people are missing that point. ? -
"Vantom" Ford van
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That's pretty cool Gene. Really suits the truck. BTW, did you know the latest reissue of the AMT Wagonrod also has a set of those decals made to fit that kit? Pic was posted originally by Bert Mears, -
Tamiya Toyota GT One IS DONE !!!
Can-Con replied to Fifer's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Looks great. That has got to be one of the cleanest builds of that kit I've ever seen. Love the car too. One of my favorites to run when I used to play Gran Turismo. So fast !!! -
History of AMT & MPC's Action Line Pickup Kits
Can-Con replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Easy way around that Chris. Shave the trim from the sides, fill the marker lights and use the markers on the decal sheet of the '72 Jimmy. That's what I did with the '72 stepside I recently did. BUT, the tail gate and tail lights on the longbox kits are still a mess. -
Chassis Swap for MPC ‘69 Grand Prix.
Can-Con replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree. It would definitely be the closest. -
The trim on the kit is a bit off. IF this pic dosen't show up, I'm including a link to a '66 for sale with a lot of detail pics. Looks good so far though. The paint looks super, silver's a tough color to get nice. https://www.classicautomall.com/vehicles/399/1966-buick-wildcat

If you want to ride a bike, you can read all the books you can find, you can watch all the videos youtube can provide, you might even find a video game with immersive virtual reality but none of it will help you when the rubber meets the road. This is one of those things you can only learn and improve on by doing it.

That's a Modelhaus resin kit of Buster Litton's '49 Ford. The tail lights on the real car were from a '51 Olds 98. I doubt you'll find another set apart from the Modelhaus kit but the red lenses would be easily cut from a piece of round clear red sprue.

Years? , More like decades. What I have seen lately is clear red plastic cutlery.

Finished - AMT Phantom Van
Can-Con replied to Nacho Z's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Just WOW ??? Looks fantastic. -
Looks good. I like the colors. You might want to foil the rest if the A-pillar, the stainless steel part on them completely covered the pillar. The box are has always been wrong.
