  1. The small block 400 was also pretty common in the '70s fullsize Canadian Pontiacs. The '76 Perisienne 2 dr I used to own had a 400 4bbl small block in it. Pretty quick car too. I'd love to get a hold of another one to "warm up" a bit to put in my T/A.
  2. Something to remember is that back in the late '60s and '70s "heavy" had another meaning besides a description of excess weight. The word was also used as slang for something or someone serious or to be taken seriously. With that in mind, it can also mean a Chevelle to be taken seriously.
  3. It's been reissued 2 years ago and is still available now, what more could they do?
  4. Like Russ said, was re-released less than two years ago in "Original Art Series" and regular version of the kit and are still currently available
  5. Remember the original molds were hacked into a dirt track race car sometime in the '70s. Then is was "restored" in the '80s but not very well and then "restored" again in the '90s but still not back to 100%. The tail light lenses are really bad. To the point I had considered making a set from sheet plastic but I couldn't get the tiny chrome strips in to my satisfaction. They're not the same thickness all the way through, they get thinner at the back so they leave a noticeable gap when installed. I have an earlier rear bumper from before it was made into a race car and the lenses fit as poorly in that as they do the current part. One thing to remember is the chrome on the lenses of a GTO pretty well hide the red of the lens. I think this is one case where if AMT has of molded the lens in with the rest of the part it would have been better than a separate part. The strait red lenses were on the Tempests and lower level cars. Not really right for a GTO
  6. His decals are quite nice but remember to put a coat of clear over them to protect them I pretty well ruined the white stripes on my '74 Duster trying to clean a smudge off it after it was applied to the car.
  7. Yea, the front and rear was re-done a couple times. The last time is better than the late '80s redo but still not right. The headlights should be completely inside the fender trim. The rear is a bit better this time too as the "PONTIAC" lettering was too big first redo, it's smaller now. The tail light lenses don't fit at all though. Mouled in the front of the hood scoop and rescribed the lines around it. They're supposed to be all body color, not with chrome trim like in the kit. That being said, this one was built from the last issue with photoetch emblems and wipers. Scale Finishes "Tiger Gold" paint and a vinyl roof. If I ever do another one I'll mold the rear of the roof to the tulip panel better. I thought the chrome trim would cover it but it's not 100%. Tires are old redlines from the parts box. I had originally built it with plans to putting it up on e-bay,, may still do that. Kit engine but I added the extra sheetmetal to the fenders to meet the inner fenders and the filler panel between the rad wall the grille header panel.
  8. Keep in mind that the lenses on real square headlights like that are flat, not convex like on kits. They do them that way on kits to give the impression of a reflector behind the lens.
  9. Bill, If I can make them from scratch, Im pretty sure you can.
  10. What you need is a flood. Believe me, a flood is great at uncluttering up your work area.
  11. There was also this full wheel cover. it's the best pic I can find right now of it .
  12. These are the regular rally wheels Johnny mentions above. You can find them in all the AMT '72 Nova kits. I don't think they were available from the factory like in '69 but I bet a dealer could have been talked into installing a set of the Corvette style 5-slot rally wheels or a set of Magnum 500s easy enough to make a sale.
  13. I'd say it's what GM called "Burgundy metallic" in '86. could also be "Canyon red" but it looks too purple to be that to me. The vinyl top material did come in "Canyon red" and I'd say that's what that one is.
  14. Snake, you coule get Cragars with grey and black spokes in the past and they do sell them again now so paint away, no need to call them "knock-offs"
  15. The kit also comes with a stock flat hood.
  16. My point was Art, that "those in the know" said that both those kits would never see the light of day and would never sell as little as 10 years ago. I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince anyone here that a '75 Chevelle or a '77 Daytona or anything else from any era would sell and could be done with multiple versions because those who don't think they could won't listen and would just say it won't work and I'd be just "preach'n to the choir" to those who do think they'd sell .
  17. They look good. I have a couple kits from them so I'm not surprised though. Nice to see the plating being available too.
  18. Looks like that pic was taken at the circus? The owners must be in their tents putting on their makeup. Not that bad looking though really.
  19. Yea, those look more like the fender vents from a '68 Buick Wildcat.
  20. Yea, that's pretty much how they looked, on the MPC anyway. They're mounted too high on both kits though, maybe that's why they look "off".
  21. No one said they originated or started life as MPC kits, they say they were copied from the MPC kits.
  22. You;ll just have to change from the rear axle back to the back bumper. That area is completely different.
  23. I've seen that "car"in person many times. Just about the ugliest thing I've ever seen. But "to each thier own" as they say.
  24. Yup. Just found a peice of plastic packaging with the right bend in it and cut the peices to fit snug. Glued them in with some Tamiya clear acrylic paint.
  25. I'm planning to use the chassis from an AMT Challenger convertible under mine. Should fit right under but I haven't checked. The 'Cuda has a shorter wheelbase and would probably need stretched a bit but I haven't checked that one either. Might get by with just scootching the rear axle back a bit.
