Modeling Family Cars: 1970s Chevrolets
Can-Con replied to AdamC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, it was. ,, and the "Fall Guy" truck is out now as "The Deserter" , just with the Hardcastle and McCormick" truck's grille. -
GOOCHE DECALS STILL AVAILABLE
Can-Con replied to RAT-T's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I heard that so many people on e-bay complained that the decals wern't good enough [read kit quality] that they just shut the whole thing down. -
MPC Dodge Warlock wheels
Can-Con replied to Lordmodelbuilder's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
How's this? They should be pretty easy to spot ,, they're moulded in gold almost exactly the same shade I painted mine. -
Modeling Family Cars: 1970s Chevrolets
Can-Con replied to AdamC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Adam, don't count out these 2 pickups. They have the exact same grille [and most of the rest of the kit's the same also] as the 2 wheel drive kit and may be easier to find. IF you need the 2 wheel drive front suspension, someone makes a copy in resin or you can use the front suspension from one of the mid '60s Revell Chevy pickups. -
AMT, Original hot rod kits, engine options
Can-Con replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, IIRC, that's actually a 426 wedge, Keith. Remember, that Mercury kit was first released years before the 440 was made. -

WTB: 54 Olds caps & 50 Merc dash
Can-Con replied to Ferbz's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That's a '49 dash Glenn. In fact, that MPC snapper is just a '49 with '50 trim. Looks like most of that kit was just copied from the AMT '49 and simplified. This is a '50 Merc dash I think Norm Veber was the only one who did that dash in resin ,, and it was excellent -
Quick [stupid maybe] question ,, why the roof swap? On the real cars, they were the same from the roofline down, wern't they? Was your sedan body damaged? I recently acquired a '62 sedan but it was built custom. I need a stock front bumper/grille, rear bumper/taillights and the rear grille before I redo it.

Maybe it's an "acquired taste" or a "regional thing"? But they do go on. Last album was released about 5 years ago ,, not like thier lead singer died of brain cancer and completely ended the band.

Detail Master 1427 Coolant Hose
Can-Con replied to 250 Testa Rossa's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Isn't it just regular insulated wire? Hardware store should have it in the electrical section. Just take a sample to compare for the size you need. In the past I'd suggest Radio Shack or "The Source" as they're called now but they seem to be getting out of the "do it yourself" stuff. -
"Um, yea, mine was missing all those parts, , Must have fell right out of the box at the factory. , yea, that's the ticket". [in my best Jon Lovitz voice] But, yea, a new grille would probably be needed. I was thinking it was one peice with the nose, but I think the bumper would be OK.

I foresee Revell getting a lot of requests for replacement '69 Mustang noses when that kit hits the shelves. I bet that kit will have a lot of "missing" or "malformed" parts.

This is my old AMT "Monza SS" on it's second rebuild circa 1982. Painted with leftover '76 Corvette red enamel I used on my '73 Buick Centurion I painted that year. Inspiration came from a car that was in either Custom Rodder or Hot Rod magazine that year. That's where I got the idea for the aluminum section in the rear wing. It had a small block with quad Webers. I think about redoing it every now'n then but don't know if I can get the thick 35 year old paint off. -
WTB: 54 Olds caps & 50 Merc dash
Can-Con replied to Ferbz's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I was going to say Pegasus Crossbars with the bars left off,, similar but not quite. Close enough maybe? -
I suspect because 1/25 sells better in North America. I remember them in the discount bin at the local Zellers dept. store for 5 bucks a peice. ,,, and hard to get rid of at that.

A true Canadian Icon. For those not familiar with Mr Downey, imagine a cross between Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen and you might just touch the surface of how he was thought of in Canada.

Thanks for the input guys. I do like the idea of a modern powerplant. Gotta keep it under the hood though. I'd like to keep it black but not sure about a blue interior. Maybe a darker blue ? I don't want to mess with the overall look too much and I'm afraid changing the color combo would change the feel of the car. I also have an unbuilt '80 that was reissued a few years ago that I plan to do in red and burgundy 2 tone so it'll have a dark red interior and I don't want to have 2 MCs with the interior colors so close to each other. Anyway, I've got lots of time to think about it.

68 C10 truck hood
Can-Con replied to kmc3420's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
You could have done what I did and files the hood of the '72 hood back. Not many people know it but there's enough plastic in the front part of those hoods to easily backdate them to '67/'68 spec with just a file and some sandpaper. I think when AMT and MPC changed the hood from '68 to '69 they may have just added material to the front and built it out, not changing the inside part of the mold. -
1978 Dodge pickup

Very nice ! The faux wood bed floor looks perfect. -
Love that car Ken. What's that gold again? reminds me of the gold "spectraflame" Hotwheels used.
-
Thanks Jeremy. Those wheels are actually a set of regular snowflakes in a set of sleeves I cast from Pegasus wheels. If I did it again I'd just cut the spokes from a set of Pegasus "t's" and use the rims directly instead of casting them.
