I have the wheels from the Monte SS kit. No backs and only 2 of the Goodyear GT Radial tires.
-
Did this one just to save the old kit. Hinges got broke, one side door got lost so decided to make a custom. Helped build 2 1:1 VW Buses like this back years ago. They were really squirrley to drive too! Especially the one with the Porsche 6 on board!

That is a great color on the SS Camino's! Something about them in white just grabs you! But then I'm a sucker for any Elcamino. I've owned 2. A 59 and a 77!
-
Built this back in the early 90's. Nothing else to do in a Colorado town with the population of 200! (if you count dogs cats and rats LOL)

Built from a discarded pile of parts from one of my sons.

Pretty much out of box other than putting in some different seats!

Which Cord Kit?
OldTrucker replied to OldTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Bill. I believe it was a Pyro seeing it was early 60's. -
I had one as a kid and it was above my pay grade at the time. (1960's) I don't remember who made it but do know it was 1/24 or 1/25 scale. So now I need to know which one is a good one to build I'm sure they all have their faults but just want one that is build able and is a decent representation!

I like it! Great companion for the Suburban! I drove one of those for a small company I worked for in High School delivering special order furniture cushions to Kreohler Furniture. They bought it used for 150 dollars. The shift tree was worn out and it would hang up between gears if you didn't handle it gently enough (and sometimes even if you did) which was embarrassing if it did it in traffic!

Nice clean look basic build with just enough detailing to look great! The color and paint scheme really make it stand out! -
1953 Hudson Farm Truck
OldTrucker replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Just when you think you have seen it all, Chuck comes up with another use for the old Hudson! -
We had a family friend that talked about having sleepers like that when he first started driving truck. Said he spent many a night sleeping under the trailer. Then the owner suggested that they start team driving and thought maybe one driver could sleep while the other drove. (yeah, right! could you imagine?LOL) You can bet what the reaction was from the drivers! The owner conceded and bought new tractors with sleepers instead!

I can remember using the tires from the modified stocker kit to get that look years ago! Eventually went back and put more realistick slicks on them. (after I grew up that is....my wife just said I still haven't! LOL)

86 Elcamino SS
OldTrucker replied to OldTrucker's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
The wheels came from the AMT 72 GTO kit. I hand painted the lettering on the tires using acrylic craft paint and a round toothpick! -
The AMT kit. This wasn't an easy build and never expected this result. Had to untwist the body and then virtually assembled the kit with white glue as I made parts fit correctly. Body went into the purple pond multiple times as paint jobs failed but finally got it right. This was a "walk away from it" (I did many times) build I would never try this kit again but was pleasantly pleased how it did turn out.

Anyone make their own pickled eggs? I'm trying it out.
OldTrucker replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
A couple bars I used to frequent back in the bad old days had the customary jar of pickled eggs on the end of the bar. Never ever had the want to try them after watching so many of the customers forego the utensil and just reach in and pull one out with their grubby fingers! Then saw the bar maid pull the old ones out and add new eggs to the bottom and put the old back on the top! Now my grandma used to make them. Cleaning out the house after she passed away we found some dated 15 years old! One of my cousins actually was dumb enough to try one! Said they were a little on the strong side but he didn't get sick! Not me, no way! -
Johan prices $$$$
OldTrucker replied to NYLIBUD's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unfortunately I sold off what unbuilt ones I had and several builts a couple years back wen prices were already going up. Needed the cash to pay down the wife's and my medical bills. I regret selling them but that's how life goes sometimes. Still have about 9 built Johan kits left. Too bad someone can't reverse engineer and produce these these kits again. Had a bad experience about 6-7 years ago with who ever was selling on line. Ordered the Rambler wagon and some decals and mailed a money order and never got anything back and no one would return calls or messages! Glad I didn't order more as I had intended too!!! -
Best Tide Orange?
OldTrucker replied to towman1271's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
I just used Testors competition orange over white primer when I did mine years back. -
Short answer is yes!

TAT L-700 7-8 trailer done
OldTrucker replied to Spruslayer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I drove for a company that used an L700 for a yard mule. I believe when they did the measurements for the kit they saw the truck without weight on the rear. (not under load) The yard mule had a really steep rake when you were not under a trailer but was almost level with a loaded one! Hard to believe it would settle that much given the overloads that it had! I love these little Dodge kits! Some years back when I was still driving there was one that was hauling steel from a mill in Indiana that I would often see! I don't know if it was a twin screw or just had a tag axle but he always was hauling a short flat with a single steel coil every time I saw it! -
I really liked her in the Superman Movies but never really followed her career. Had no idea how her life had taken a turn like it did. Sad story for sure. May she rest in peace now.

Future of the hobby
OldTrucker replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got my first model at 10 or 11. My grandpa and Uncle helped me build it. I started buying the kits that were not much more than assembled promos to start and no paint. Left cars for airplanes for a while and then back to cars in my teens. By then I was building glue kits and painting them. Even won a couple trophy's at local hobby shop contests back then. I have build ever since with some breaks inbetween for Uncle Sam and for truck driving over the road but always kept in it to some extent. All three of my sons built in grade school and Jr High but lost interest without ever really doing anything that was good. I ended up with what they left. Some ended up in parts boxes and a few I saved. Now one of my youngest (36 now) is back into it. He started back about 5 years ago and has become quite good. No, not show quality but very presentable work! His son who is 4 is taking interest in his dad's and my models that we have built and those we are working on. He is a car nut any way! So I could see him getting into it whan he is old enough. My little building buddy we lost in 2015 just before he turned 4. He would sit for hours and watch me build and knew what a lot of the parts were and what the tools I used were! Really miss that little man. -
Anyone buying Revell kits just in case?
OldTrucker replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't bought any models in a while! I actually go into Hobby Lobby and Michaels and look and leave without buying. Even though there are many I wold love to have. I guess I have finally realized that the world will end before I ever finish what I already have in the closet!
