My dream 1:1 car: 67 Corvette 427 conv
OldTrucker replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like it!!! First car I ever took down the drag strip was a 67 Corvette convertible! But it was far from stock! Belonged to my bands older brother. 427 with a tunnel ram , teardrop hood scoop, 4:56 gears out back. Car dealer repossessed it while he was in Vietnam so before his girl friend took it back to the dealer all of us in the band took all the goodies off and replaced them with stock parts that he had most of in the garage attic. Car sure ran bad with that huge cam and a stock intake and carb on it!LOL We even changed the rear end to the stock one! 4 steel wheels with bald tires too! The dealer was mad because he thought he was getting the car they way it was raced!LOL he wasn't supposed to be repossessing the car from a guy overseas anyway! -
Skipped spring and went to summer!

Favorite police procedural/crime dramas
OldTrucker replied to Rob Hall's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Rich, you need to get out and talk to those on the front lines about this thing you call procedural and they will tell you how much of what they show is BS! They take a stab at the generality of procedure and then embellish it to absurd degrees! -
Favorite police procedural/crime dramas

Wayne, we lived next door to a retired NYC Detective about 6 years ago. He said that Barney Miller WAS his precinct to a T! Said that I would not believe how diverse the department really is! He made a point that on these "police dramas" they see more action n 60 minutes that real defectives see in a year! Said in his 35 years his gun was only out of it's holster maybe half a dozen times! He put 30 years in the NYC department them retired and moved yo IL. and took a job as a Police Chief for a mid sized town.. He said he saw more "excitement" in those four years as a Police Chief than he did in his 35 in NYC, 20 of it as a detective! -
All I have been having for the last 6 months is a little knee pain occasionally. This caught me totally off guard! Like it just would not bend at all without serious pain. Walking to after that. Got better after keeping it elevated for a while and working it on and off.. Almost back to normal tonight but I know it will do it again! The wife is scheduled to have her other knee done in August. She had her right knee replaced just days before Christmas last year. After that I will be seeing what the doctor says with mine. Hope he can do some cleanup and buy me some time!

Had both hips replaced and feeling good until this morning when a knee decided to lockup between the bedroom and bathroom!

I've got my eye on a 1973 4 door Ford Maverick with 79,000 actual miles on the clock. If I get it I will dump my 2006 HHR and use the Maverick as my daily. We put less than 4000 miles a year on our car.(way less most years) so that old Ford will last me for as long as I will be driving!LOL Just buy up and shelve enough tuneup and repair parts to make sure I can keep it on the road! Just what we need, more "tanks" out on the road in the hands of inept drivers. Can't see around over or through them in traffic they are so monserous and all needless to be that large! Just look at a 70's through 90's pickups and note how small they are next to these new things they make.

Sorry, Not in my book
OldTrucker replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think you misunderstood what I was saying which was what they think they are replicating isn't what they were doing back then. Sure they were building hot rods with junkyard parts because they were cheap but the cars had to be safe. I have yet to hear anyone from that generation that didn't talk about how John Q Law wasn't on their cases regularly about the safety of the cars and meeting the laws on vehicles. No, as the welds they have the wrong idea in thinking that the novice kid would be doing the welding. How many hot rodders had a welder available to them??? Not many would be my guess so they had to find someone with a welder and that could do the job for them! A local gas station owner I worked for when I was an early teen was one of the guys here that the hot rodders would go to get get thir welding work done. He would do the work cheap because it was cash in his pocket that his wife didn't know about!LOL -
I once used that method too and have one less tooth for my effort! Never got the bottle open either!LOL

They are out there. They most commonly are called "Flower Cars" and can be seen at most mafia figure funerals!LOL

I don't think advantage was his motive as much as "different" was!

Ace, there was a local guy that built his "rat rod" as they like to refer to these monstrosities. His weld job on it were comparable to what you see in that picture. Thing is he is a certified welder. Welded in the Canadian pipeline back in the day as well as on others and was a welding instructor in the military and at a community college for a time! Guess it is part of the trying to replicate what they think hot rodders did back in the day which is really not the same as what they are doing today. -
Classy Lady, may she rest in peace.

Sad news. We always liked the show. Watched it in first run and syndicated. Had a great cast and funny and sometimes serious story lines!

Mine was an old IMC kit that I painted wit Testors red enamel waaaaaay back in the day. Over time parts were lost broken and decals went bad. Picked up a parts kit in a trade and finished it up a couple years or so ago. I was building it from what I remembered seeing at US 30!

My Last Modelhaus order
OldTrucker replied to dimaxion's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I put my order in and it appeared that it went through. The next day I had the message that my order was rejected. (never went through) because they were closed down and not accepting orders. Looked to me like they were flooded with orders so bad that they cut it off a little earlier than they had planned. Can't blame them though! I wonder if they will one day let someone else have their molds and the rights to start making their parts again! -
Great job! When I built my 52 I debated on whether to do the grey or the late season black car. The decision was made when I found a can of metallic grey in my paint stash that looked close to the right color!
-
Just an out of box build. The kit was great as it all fit together really nice! Hardest thing is putting the body on! Boy was the Bare Metal Foil chrome work a nightmare!

In the wary 60's some guys did that to a guys 58 Ford at a parking lot on what we called the square. The guy was a real hot head so their knew if provoked he would try and Chase down the other guy. They chained his rear axle to a light pole the someone cruised by and yelled an insult about his car. Sure enough he fired it up and took off like a house afire. Well, it was sad news for one of the guys dad's car because that was what the light pole landed on!LOL

1/25 AMT '65 Chevy El Camino "Gear Hustler"
OldTrucker replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looks like they took the original 64 and added a 65 grill! Look at how the front fenders are squared off on the front rather than the point that the 65 had! Also the hood grill and bumper are straight across rather than coming to a point in the middle so for all intents it IS a 64 on the box!LOL
