The AMT kit. This wasn't an easy build and never expected this result. Had to untwist the body and then virtually assembled the kit with white glue as I made parts fit correctly. Body went into the purple pond multiple times as paint jobs failed but finally got it right. This was a "walk away from it" (I did many times) build I would never try this kit again but was pleasantly pleased how it did turn out.

Anyone make their own pickled eggs? I'm trying it out.
OldTrucker replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
A couple bars I used to frequent back in the bad old days had the customary jar of pickled eggs on the end of the bar. Never ever had the want to try them after watching so many of the customers forego the utensil and just reach in and pull one out with their grubby fingers! Then saw the bar maid pull the old ones out and add new eggs to the bottom and put the old back on the top! Now my grandma used to make them. Cleaning out the house after she passed away we found some dated 15 years old! One of my cousins actually was dumb enough to try one! Said they were a little on the strong side but he didn't get sick! Not me, no way! -
Johan prices $$$$
OldTrucker replied to NYLIBUD's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unfortunately I sold off what unbuilt ones I had and several builts a couple years back wen prices were already going up. Needed the cash to pay down the wife's and my medical bills. I regret selling them but that's how life goes sometimes. Still have about 9 built Johan kits left. Too bad someone can't reverse engineer and produce these these kits again. Had a bad experience about 6-7 years ago with who ever was selling on line. Ordered the Rambler wagon and some decals and mailed a money order and never got anything back and no one would return calls or messages! Glad I didn't order more as I had intended too!!! -
I just used Testors competition orange over white primer when I did mine years back.

TAT L-700 7-8 trailer done
OldTrucker replied to Spruslayer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I drove for a company that used an L700 for a yard mule. I believe when they did the measurements for the kit they saw the truck without weight on the rear. (not under load) The yard mule had a really steep rake when you were not under a trailer but was almost level with a loaded one! Hard to believe it would settle that much given the overloads that it had! I love these little Dodge kits! Some years back when I was still driving there was one that was hauling steel from a mill in Indiana that I would often see! I don't know if it was a twin screw or just had a tag axle but he always was hauling a short flat with a single steel coil every time I saw it! -
I really liked her in the Superman Movies but never really followed her career. Had no idea how her life had taken a turn like it did. Sad story for sure. May she rest in peace now.

Future of the hobby
OldTrucker replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got my first model at 10 or 11. My grandpa and Uncle helped me build it. I started buying the kits that were not much more than assembled promos to start and no paint. Left cars for airplanes for a while and then back to cars in my teens. By then I was building glue kits and painting them. Even won a couple trophy's at local hobby shop contests back then. I have build ever since with some breaks inbetween for Uncle Sam and for truck driving over the road but always kept in it to some extent. All three of my sons built in grade school and Jr High but lost interest without ever really doing anything that was good. I ended up with what they left. Some ended up in parts boxes and a few I saved. Now one of my youngest (36 now) is back into it. He started back about 5 years ago and has become quite good. No, not show quality but very presentable work! His son who is 4 is taking interest in his dad's and my models that we have built and those we are working on. He is a car nut any way! So I could see him getting into it whan he is old enough. My little building buddy we lost in 2015 just before he turned 4. He would sit for hours and watch me build and knew what a lot of the parts were and what the tools I used were! Really miss that little man. -
Anyone buying Revell kits just in case?
OldTrucker replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't bought any models in a while! I actually go into Hobby Lobby and Michaels and look and leave without buying. Even though there are many I wold love to have. I guess I have finally realized that the world will end before I ever finish what I already have in the closet! -

I actually find myself at stores and on line looking at kits and have been able to walk away without buying a kit even though I see some I would like to have. Come to the realization that the world will come to an end before I ever finish what I have in the closet! -
Watching our 4 year old Granddaughter playing in her second baseball game today! She hit every time at bat without using the tee!

I worked on and off for a VW ( foreign car) repair shop over 20 years and the owner was in love with these cars! Always had several parts cars around and a couple running. Had one all original with a little over 30,000 miles on it but his favorite was one that he bought missing the engine that he shoehorned an aluminum block 215 ci buick nail head engine into backed by a Borg warner T-10! Ran Chevrolet station wagon rims with baby moon caps. I don't remember how those were adapted to the car all I know is it was a quick little car!

Built last year. Never dreamed it would come out this good! Took a lot of time and patience to get everything to fit.

My Last Modelhaus order
OldTrucker replied to dimaxion's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Nick, it is a given that they would not "give" the molds away. By have I was thinking more in line of one of the other casters getting them from Don and Carol so that what they started could continue on! I was in no way suggesting anything different. -
Is NA$CAR for sale?
OldTrucker replied to 935k3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
California was a failed experiment. They went after a new group of "younger" fans. Good idea in theory but wrong group as they don't seem to have the attention span to become long time fans of anything it seems and after two good seasons the new had worn off and attendance dropped drastically! If someone buys Nascar the first thing is to drop California and Vegas and Kansas and go back to the short tracks in the southeast! I would even drop the Indy race. That track was not intended for stock cars to run on. Also they need to shorten the races. 500 milers just do not make sense anymore. The idea was "endurance" as when they came up with that idea they were running factory built cars so they were actually testing the durability of a production car with the long races! That is no longer true so no need for a 4+ hour race. Maybe a shift to sedan class racing like you see in the land down under would be the way to go! -

Honey do time around the house and everything I did fought me all the way! An hour tops job took 3 because of having the wrong (not enough) tools! I'll never get talked into replacing the drain baskets in a sink ever again!!!

That is one beautiful car! I remember the first time I saw one at a show in the lat 70's, I thought it was a customized Chevelle! I owned a 69 Chevelle at the time so it was pretty cool comparing the two! Nice mix of Chevy and Ponco parts to make a great looking car!

All I can say is COOL!!!

Who would have thought of Cragars on a 52 Hudson? Looks really cool Chuck! Chuck is the King oh Hudson hands down!

Great job! There we're so many changes to the truck over the years, it is hard to remember just how it looked! I saw it 4 Times in the sixties and it was different every time!
