In my opinion, Pyro kits were just unassembled toys really, aimed at the "gotta build it now" market at the drugstore. Monogram kits, however moved past that bar very quickly, and started being actual miniatures of the item they portrayed. The 1930's Classics were the very best that could be done at the time, pushing the limits of tooling technology. Even today it is obvious that much care and time were lavished on the kits in this series. They were (and still are) top notch kits. Sad that they never have received their due. Terry Jesse did a story on all available Antique & Classic car kits in one of the Model Mags about 15-20 years ago, that is notable for it's length and thoroughness. It is well worth finding if you like these kinds of kits.

Thanks, James. I had not known that. It makes sense, in a backwards way. ESPO, I have the new "Showboat" '50 Ford kit. No Carson Top, only the Half Top. It is otherwise very nice. The parts are crisp, and the chrome sparkles. The Decal Sheets is awesome.

My H.L. has not gotten one yet. Maybe next month. (sigh) Despite being in California, our H.L. seems to be the last place in the US to get new kits.

I want to say 'apple green', similar to Duesenberg. But that might not be accurate. There was a build of a 1933 Imperial Indy Pace Car in Model Cars magazine within the last few years. Might check back issues for it.

John, Check out the "Showboat" 1950 Ford. Came out last year. Should still be on some shelves. Exactly what you asked for. Even has the plastic 2-peice slicks, and restored Gasser Front Axle. Alan

Thament, try googling articles about the Mustangs, that replaced the Elcos as chase cars. I've seen photos, in the Mustang stories of the El Caminos, they replaced. Not Great pics, but there. Sadly for us modelers, the U-2/TR-1 program was (and still is) very secretive, so photographs are very hard to come by. If you are planning to do up a 1-1 scale El Camino as a U-2 Chase car, I'd also write the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson, and contact the base historian at Beale AFB. The might help you.

Great Build. I'd like to build mine as a U.S. Forest Service truck.

MPC/Round 2 - Pony Express is back from the grave!

Nice Matador. Those nifty 5 spoke mag wheels are factory stock, too. From looking at the instruction sheets, I think that the stock/race car Matador kits are only a few parts different. I am guessing that the Bobby Allison kit could go back to stock fairly easily. Might even be a potential 2'n'1 kit. I'd really like to see the Over The Top 1970's custom version come back too. it even has the AMC version of a shaker hood scoop. -
Man I hope Hobby Lobby gets these.

Bandit Resins-Still around?
stavanzer replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks. I'll keep trying then. I'm sure He'll get back to me eventually. -
I'm wanting to order some parts from Bandit Resins. I've sent an email to the contact on the website, and have not heard back yet. It has been a week. I figure that the holidays are a busy time, so I'm not too worried. However, I'm not gonna pay for anything until I hear back from them. Should I wait a little longer, or email them again. Thanks, Alan

After going over Don's helpful pics, this just moved to the top of the purchase list. I'm gonna have to get this one.

Oh, Drat! Don, you just sold me on the Monza kit. Now I gotta have one. Any Pics yet? How are the decals?

Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight
stavanzer replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, the Chassis and engine still exist. They are under the Squad Rod Nova. Not sure how viable a re-tool would be, but there is a good deal of it left. -
Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
stavanzer replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thank's for the photo's Erik. They help. Others may know more, but I believe that the 'steel wheels' are in fact a hubcap that Mercury used on the Comet. They mimicked the look of a steel wheel but were not. Ask the experts though, as I may be incorrect. BTW the Mags do look great. -
Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight
stavanzer replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
And....... Nothing. The Lindberg Ship kits are all trash. Round2 undercuts all the good work they are doing by going back to the well on these. Not Sure why they do it, and I'd really like to know if it is paying off. I know Hobby Lobby keeps blowing all the excess Lindberg kits out at clearance prices every quarter. These Lindberg molds are 60+ years old, and are an embarrassment to the company. Even back in the 1980's as a wet behind the ears kid, Lindberg kit were always the last choice. Detail was soft, and things seldom looked quite right. Nothing has improved since then. Nice to see the Barris Kit, but it is another Non-Starter for me. Change the Tooling back to the original Wilhelm's Wonder, and get back to me. -

Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?
stavanzer replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I just checked the Revell Website. No Mention of any troubles on the '30 Coupe, and it is still listed, and presumably still available for purchase. I understand that Revell owes the public nothing, but an official, public response would be a nice gesture to to those of us who support their company. Something a bit bland, with enough detail to at least hold off the conspiracy theorists. I'm not asking for promises, just some hard information to stop the internet rumors. It seems to me that even after at least 10 years of very active Internet Effects on public companies, most corporate leadership still thinks that "just ignore the Internet, and it will go away" is a good response to any trouble. (sigh). Two sentences from Revell HQ could stop most of this thread in it's tracks, and build good P.R. Just my thoughts IMHO. -
Daz, I just won a copy of this kit myself from the 'Bay. The pics in the ad were awful, so I was not sure what I was getting. Turns out the previous builder was a first class painter, and did a superb job on all the body parts. The Rest is built and painted, but not to the same high standards. I'm going to rebuild and repaint the chassis and engine and then assemble the kit. The only thing missing are the wheels. I can scrounge those. It is a very simple kit and has what looks more like a Buick Nailhead than a small block for the engine. That same engine or variations of it, is in the CHP Camaro, the Chevy Monza, and some others. Revell tools at this time were much simplified, and this engine is a prime example of that. The Real Rubber Tires in my kit are OK, which is a first. They are usually rotten by now. Hope you have a Fun Build with it. It is not a serious kit. Don't take it seriously. Just Enjoy it as a 'time capsule' build for the era in which it was made.

Neat! I vote for a weathered beater.

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
stavanzer replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Man the AFX Version has the hood with 'Nostrils'! THAT'S what I was waiting for. Now I'll take two regular Comets and 4 of the AFX please. Between these Comet kits and the Hudson Drag Car, It is going to be a Moebius 2017 for me. Thanks, Dave and Co. P.S. I waiting for a Ford 4x4 P.U as well. I have some fond memories of a worn out Ford Longbed with a Grannie Low 4 Speed, crawling around the hills of Leadville Colorado for hours at a time in low gear, in 1980 on vacation. I'd love to build that truck. -
For me, the real selling point on most of the Round2 Retro Delux kits is the expanded Decal Sheets and the Pad Printed Tires. I have almost every one of the kits that they have released, with the exception of the "Long Lost Tool" stuff. (The Pacers, ect) What makes the purchase decision easy is Fresh Plastic, Decals & Tires. It has sold me on a new kit, when I already have 4 on the shelf. That said, I agree with the Ace. Huge Decal Sheets, A plethora of tire options, tinted glass, and some extra 'goodies' like the newly tooled chrome steelies or the 5 spokes that have appeared as separate small sprues by them selves, would be all it takes to push me into pulling the trigger on a purchase. Re-creating long lost combos especially with tooling that has not been seen in 15/20 years just seals the deal. If I were marketing them, I'd even lean on the 'Limited Edition/ Reserve One Now' tactic that has been used on the Space 1999 and Streetle Beetle kits. (Assuming that has worked, of course) I'd like to see if there could be a Tie in to the March Meets too. That might just be worth the trouble.

Well, the whole Elky this has me watching the 'Bay for Street Machine Version. Now that I've seen what's in it, I want one. Man that '90's boxart did not do that kit any favors. Just using Round2's New "Vintage Style" boxart and updated decal sheet would have doubled sales. One will turn up at a price I can swing eventually. I look forward to building it. Heck, It might even carry a Soap Box Derby Car.
