66 Chevy ll outlaw style..(update 12/23/16)..
TarheelRick replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Wow, some really impressive scratchbuilding. Love everything about this one. Just have to say the "Crow-Mod" and "Murder Nova" need to be on the lookout for this one; it may be #1 in the 405. -
Revell 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham - Finished
TarheelRick replied to RandyB.'s topic in Model Cars
Have to agree with what everyone has said about this build. It is some outstanding work and the paint is flawless, which is saying a lot for black. I also have one of these and have been really planning to use it as parts for a couple of customs. This one may change my mind, but then again, probably not. -
Mud dragger
TarheelRick replied to muddragger92's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I have to agree, that is some fine looking cage work, especially for a first time. I am wanting to build a 2WD puller pickup sometime in the future, I know they are a different animal, but maybe I can get some ideas from this build. -
I have a picture somewhere that I made at the Gulfport, MS dragstrip back around '71-72 of a '57 Chevy sedan-delivery with a tilt fiberglass front-end, blown SBC, and radiused rear wheel wells that ran in Gas Class. So yeah, long roofs have been in Gas Class for many years; it was called "The Weed-Whacker". My pet peeve is calling AWB's gassers, on early gassers the wheelbase had to remain the same.

NEW REVELL '30: Zee frame!! Zee frame!! + 2nd mockup
TarheelRick replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Going to be one sweet coupe. BTW, I really like the pictures of your phantom chassis. ROFL. -
Welcome back. Many of us took an "extended vacation" when life and "growing up" got in the way. As for a decent '68 Camaro, Revell has just released one recently. I do not have one, but have read some pretty good reviews on it. It is far better than the 67/68 conglomerate AMT turned out many years ago.

I am also retired, but for some reason there is a list of "to do" items longer than my arm. That being said, this is one beautiful Ford wagon.

1948 Ford Farm Truck

Excellent combination of "parts". Really nice build, -
Mighty fine looking Falcon. The changes you made are subtle, but make this build one of a kind. Thanks for sharing it.

Distributor & plug wires
TarheelRick replied to 1hobby1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use aluminum tube and radio shack strapping wire. I just cut nine equal pieces of wire, superglue them into a short piece of aluminum tubing, slide in another piece of smaller tubing from the bottom (or maybe a piece of brass rod), superglue it into place and call it done. On the engine I will open the distributor hole to the same size as the smaller tubing, and I am careful not to use the parted-hair look when routing the wires. -
This is a great dio and very well thought out. One of the problems I have is that you may post a picture or an update of this diorama, and before I get back to my computer someone else has posted an update of theirs pushing this one off the page.

The only one I really cared for was "Overhaulin" with Chip Foose. You can take all the others, although I will watch many of them. Gas Monkey is a joke, Misfits is even worse, and I just cannot handle Count Danny's "Brotha" and constant hugging chest bumps. Can't get Jay Leno's garage, or at least have never noticed it while surfing the tv guide on my tv.

Or they are trying to outrun the two fat rats in the Kia Soul.

Another short tracker I built using the 41 Plymouth coupe kit, It represents the ones they used to show back in the 60's from Islip Speedway on ABC's "Wide-World of Sports"
-
This is a Willys coupe bodied short tracker. The engine is from a 53 Chevy kit and the chassis is 41 Chevy truck.

Got my boxes all packed and ready to load into my truck. Always a fun show.

Going to enjoy watching this one come together. I also lived those days. Remember well when Scotty Scott took a Jeep CJ or whatever they were called in the '60s, lengthened the body, put a blown big-block in it and went match racing. Then there was also E. J. Potter with his fuel-injected 327 sitting crossways in a Harley frame. Wild and Wooly and fun to watch.

Looks like you have the section lines ready. I have tried the Mek/styrene and it didn't work that well for me. I got the wrong mixture - too much MEK and not enough styrene and it really made a mess. Fortunately, I was able to use Bondo glazing filler to clean up the mess.

Western Star wrecker

Beautiful build. I really like the paint work; the masking for this one must have been really difficult. You did an excellent job with it. -
Oh man, I think I just wet myself. The Ford GT-40 is the most ultimate machine to ever melt rubber onto pavement. Oh yeah, good looking model also.

I have the '57 Chevrolet BelAir kit, it appears to be a stock version of the 1/25 with the exception of the opening doors. There is an added set of mag wheels as well as some wiring and hoses for detail work. I have also acquired a Corvette fuel injection for this motor so there was definitely a 1/16 Corvette kit, can't remember if it was a '57 or a '63.

Definitely one fine looking T-Bird. Love the color and the photos are excellent. Great job!
