  1. Probably my second biggest blunder was painting a car on the bed in my bedroom. I was using a cardboard box as a paint booth and had spread newspaper around the front of the box; however, I did not account for overspray. When Mom saw the bedspread, she was not very happy - neither was I! My biggest blunder was selling my first collection of models. I had over a hundred 60-70's annuals, and other assorted kits. I was in the USAF and got tired of packing and moving them every couple of years; besides, I was not building much back then (1985) so I advertised them in the paper and sold the whole lot for $200. I have kicked myself in the rectal orifice several times for that.
  2. Nice looking build, pretty color not too much flake. I am wondering about the rear roof line of that cab; shouldn't it be more squared off like in the picture you posted?
  3. Let me add my kudos to Texas 3D. I ordered a set of the Baja fenders, they are superb. Thinner than kit styrene so look more realistic, really looking forward to getting my workbench back into order so I can do something with them. Will definitely be ordering some more stuff in the future.
  4. Great weathering job on this old workhorse. One thing I noticed is what appears to be a somewhat nose high, lower rear-end stance which would be right for a truck with a load of firewood. Very nice build.
  5. As the others have said, that top chop is really slick. Nice build.
  6. How much attention do you pay to the small print on the side of kit boxes. I just sort of figured all the kits were made in China, however that is not necessarily the case. Yesterday I was down in the basement test fitting the beautiful dune-buggy pieces from Texas 3D to my Revell VW. I noticed a sticker on the inside of the VW top that had a number and the word 'Poland'. I decided to look at the side of the box and here is what I found: Packaged in the USA, Plastic & Tires Poland, Box printed in China, Decals from Italy. This VW kit is truly an international cooperation.
  7. Love it. There is so much detail to look at. This truck is almost a diorama all by itself. Great work.
  8. Very nice indeed. Like the patriotic theme you incorporated.
  9. Going into town yesterday I passed a real moving Ford Probe. Haven't seen one of those in years, I figured they had all been crushed into Priuses by now. Went to a model show today just for a quick walk through to look for some parts. On the way out had an opportunity to talk to a guy with a cherry, original 64 Nova. He said it was the first car he had ever owned; he was in late 60's early 70's. Said he had over 525K miles on it with the little 6-banger. It was a real survivor, no noticeable rust, interior still in good condition, and a well faded reddish paint job. When he mentioned he was getting 30 mpg, I offered to trade my F-150 for it; this 16.9 and 17.8 is killing me.
  10. Exceptionally nice work.
  11. Very nice build. Sometimes referred to as the "Flying Coffin". One landed at the base I was stationed at in Thailand. It was painted flat black and needed major repairs for some bullet holes through the rear stabilizer.
  12. Two really sweet builds, and a beautiful contrast in finishes. Some mighty fine modeling.
  13. Sinister looking and with that Cobra mill I'll bet it is loud too.
  14. Very good-looking restoration, beautiful choice of color, and nice BMF work. I do find the boxes to be a distraction and make it difficult sometimes to focus on the build itself. I am often distracted by the pictures of what is in the boxes as I reminisce of the days of my youth.
  15. I can see why you won that best detail award. That is some fantastic work and in your outdoor shots there is a very 1:1 look to the build. Extremely nice work.
  16. Wow, don't know how I missed this one. That is some excellent scratchbuilding, beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Where did you acquire those wheels and tires? Most of the 1/32 kits I see have open backs on the tires.
  17. Really cool Shoebox, color look just right. Wonder if that Caddy mill wouldn't require a 12- volt battery though.
  18. Quite often a few thin layers of ordinary clear lacquer will work. But you need to keep the buildup very thin so they will conform to any surface irregularities and not stick out proud of the body surface. Testors also offers a decal spray designed to be used on their decal paper, you may want to try that.
  19. I would keep the 180-degree headers if at all possible. They add that complete racing touch to a short track car, and their sound in 1:1 racing is just out of this world, much better than a street Mustang.
  20. Beautiful piece of work. No matter which view I see a '67 Chevelle wagon, its amazing how Chevrolet used some of the same body lines on the Corvair and the Chevelle.
  21. Very nice looking rig. Did you build the under-bed workings (hydraulic cylinders, slides for rollback, etc.)? If you did can you show us how that was done. Several years ago I built one on a modified 1/32 Mack firetruck body without any of the underpinnings. I am wanting to take it off, widen and lengthen the bed and make it operational if possible.
  22. $129.95 for each kit!! What has happened to the world today?
  23. I don't know - using a Dodge color on a Shelby Mustang is some kind of sacrilege. But it does look really good, more updates.
  24. Was in WalMart yesterday and came across their display of models. I picked up the 64 Oldsmobile Hardtop, already have the convertible. I think it was $21.97.
  25. I built one several years ago. I used pegboard for the floor and a vacuum cleaner motor for the suction power, had to disassemble it and put blocks of wood under the pegboard to keep the vacuum from pulling the floor down. I had a slide in furnace filter under the pegboard. Worked pretty well, although the vacuum motor was quite loud. We moved and I decided I needed a larger booth. I have it built and have used it occasionally, but I need to work out a better exhaust fan and vent system.
